Situated within walking distance of sandy beaches, Camel Sailing & Waterski school, St Enedoc golf course and stunning coastal walks. Charming 100 year old cottage, quirky yet spacious, a few minutes walk to range of local shops including deli, bakery, butchers, chandler, and gift/clothing boutiques. Foot ferry to Padstow for access to Camel cycle trail and sea trips. 2 miles from Polzeath for surfing schools and safe family beach. Secluded, sunny garden suitable for al fresco meals, safe for children and dogs. Take a walk to Porthilly and continue to Rock and onto Daymer Bay at low tide. Charter a boat, or take advantage of fishing/speed boat trips, you may also catch sight of dolphins in the estuary. Pets welcome (downstairs). About Wendy Head

We are Mark, Wendy & Ellie and we live on Dartmoor in Devon with our hens and ducks. We owned holiday cottages in a nearby village for 12 years, then took a break to bring up our daughter. We had the opportunity to purchase property in Rock, Cornwall which have been successful as holiday rentals. We have now converted the barn which was the site of the original Manor House before it burnt down. It has a 'home from home' feel which is important so you can relax and enjoy your holiday. We have added things we have collected over the years to make it feel homely for our guests. If you wish to plan a two centre holiday we aim to provide short breaks at both location except in high season.

We are nearby if needed but Cowshed has a private garden giving full seclusion for relaxation.

Why Wendy Head chose North Cornwall

Hollyhocks & Bryher offer comfort and peace yet is a few minutes walk to the local shops, beaches, golf and water sports activities. The accommodation is flexible to suit families or groups and provides a good base for seeking out the other local treasures such as Port Isaac and Boscastle.

Hollyhocks is a cosy yet spacious home and great for us as we live amongst granite tors and rolling fields, but the pull of the ocean lures us away to enjoy Rock and the surrounding area. Bryher provides a modern alternative for smaller parties.

The Cowshed is a fantastic base for exploring Dartmoor and Devon. It is modern and spacious with its own private courtyard garden within our grounds. Nearby villages provide all you need an have excellent dining and shops. Two centre holidays an option.

What makes this cottage unique

In Rock we enjoy walking to local shops and to the nearby beaches, our favourite walk is from Daymer Bay to Polzeath and in warm seas you can see dolphins swimming.

We love the convenience of having everything nearby, strolling to the beach and ferry and accessing all the lovely walks. Our daughter still enjoys messing about in the surf or in rock pools and equally enjoys the shopping experiences of local villages and towns. Once in Cornwall nowhere is that far away and there are gardens and National Trust houses to visit, seal sanctuaries and tourist attractions. The Eden project is well worth a visit too.

Our Dartmoor property is surrounded by beautiful countryside, plenty of attractions or peaceful walks. The Cathedral city of Exeter provides shops, history and plenty of places to eat.

Hollyhocks Stay

Another lovely stay at Hollyhocks. This is the second year running for us and this stay was as pleasurable as last year. Great location, the perfect base for exploring the delights of Cornwall. Many days out on the beach at Rock returning to the comfort of Hollyhocks.

Family home from home

We have just returned from a 3 night stay for a family wedding in Rock. We felt so at home and wished our trip had been a longer one. Wendy and her husband went to great lengths to make sure our stay was a smooth one, and their communication prior to our stay was fantastic. We have two very young children and apart from us taking a stair gate with us, the property was perfect for them. The garden is small and enclosed, allowing them to explore outside as well.

We hope to return someday.

Happy Hollyhocks !

Once again, despite the Cornish weather, we had a great stay at Hollyhocks. 1.5 miles from the Padstow ferry it offers a great home from which to explore the wonderful Camel estuary and the beaches of Rock and Polzeath. Walk, cycle - bikes provided - sail or surf !

The house is well equipped and ideal for all the family, within easy reach of local shops and a fabulous bakery ; don't miss it !

It is also very well placed for exploring further afield : the south and west coasts and the moors are an easy drive.

Ten days just isn't long enough.

Lovely base

Excellent accommodation for families with plenty to do nearby, good local shops just down the road and fantastic coastal walks. Hollyhocks is clean and has everything you need, a good sunny garden and you can leave the car there for walks off road to Polzeath and Porthilly and onto Rock itself and grab the ferry to Padstow. We will definitely be back and hope to stay longer next time.

convenient, clean, compact & well equipped.

Listing was accurate but the house is on the busy main road which does not have a pavement all the way to the waterside.Traffic noise is heard in all bedrooms especially if needing to open windows when the weather is warm. Parking for two cars is possible but very tight.

The owners provided excellent detailed instructions.

It was comfortable & convenient for us as we attended a wedding in Rock but I would not recommend a full holiday stay in view of the comments above.

Owner's Response: Hollyhocks is situated on the road into Rock which gives easy access to local shops, amenities, restaurants and the buzz of the ever popular location. We often have guests returning year after year and even several times a year; often with two cars, for weekly and even two weekly stays. Hollyhocks provides an ideal base for exploring North Cornwall and the surrounding area which is outstandingly beautiful.

Coast/Beach:

Situated within walking distance of sandy beaches, Camel Sailing & Waterski school, and stunning coastal walks. Porthilly beach is 15 minute walk, Rock, 20 minutes. There is kite/windsurfing at Daymer Bay 1.5 miles by car, by foot at low tide. Surfing lessons at Polzeath, 2 miles, Coastguard patrolled, very shallow for a long way for children with rock pools, more boutiques and cafes, restaurants.

Travel:

Plymouth cross-channel port 44 miles

Newquay airport - 17 miles

Bodmin - train 11 miles

Use of a car not essential, there are ample places and activities to access by foot and a bus runs to the beach at Rock in summer months.

Distances:

Rock is less than a mile, local shops accessed by foot in minutes, good range including deli, bakery, butchers, local supermarket, fish & chips and boutiques. A little further on is a Post Office & Newsagent and restaurants including Nathan Outlaw. Wadebridge offers more local shops, banks, bike hire, galleries and gift shops plus a cinema. There is a Tesco, Coop and Lidl stores, deliveries can be made using Sainsburys and Asda at Bodmin! Cashpoint at Texaco petrol station 0.5 mile. Pubs 1 mile.

Further Details:

Padstow is a passenger ferry ride away, which runs day and night to give access to Camel trail & bike hire lovely shops and restaurants (Rick Stein). Visit Port Isaac, 6 miles of Doc Martin fame, with fish restaurants, pubs and gift shops and galleries.

Boscastle and Tintagel are a short car drive away and are both worth visiting.

Deposit of 25% required to reserve chosen week(s), the balance to be paid 8 weeks prior to the start of the rental. Linen charged at £12 per bed, dogs £20 per week. We are happy to hold provisional bookings but will need a deposit to secure it after 24 hours for peak weeks.

The cottage can easily accommodate families and is set up so that one room can be used as a twin room (downstairs). It is also suitable for groups and couples or can provide a welcome retreat for two! Electric panel heaters and night store heaters plus wood burner for low season and winter breaks.South-facing private secluded garden laid mainly to lawn but with creeping clematis and sweet-smelling roses. Garden furniture, table and chairs with parasol for resting or al fresco meals. Sun lasts all day and into the evening. Large garden shed for hanging wetsuits and other equipment, bikes can be made available by arrangement with the owner. Area for barbecue, suggest disposables.
