About the property

Champernhayes is set on a gentle southern slope of a West Dorset hillside, overlooking an almost unpopulated undulating valley, with views to the sea at Charmouth in the distance, and just over the hill lies the charming historic port of Lyme Regis. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within the UK’s only natural World Heritage Site, this coastline is renowned for its fascinating geology and fossils – known locally as the ‘Jurassic Coastline’ – a real life ‘Jurassic Park’! The smaller, single-storey cottages at Champernhayes have been created from the conversion of the original farmhouse buildings, which date back to 1482. These cottages, grouped around a central courtyard, have been awarded 5 stars by the Tourist Board, their highest grade for comfort, location, décor and facilities. The traditional country-style kitchens are open plan, with a dining area, and comprehensively equipped. Most bedrooms have their own en-suite bathrooms.

Stunning location even in winter

  • 5 of 5

We decided to get a pre Christmas break and choose Champernhayes after it was recommended to us by a friend who stays regularly. Our friend has high standards but our expectations were meet.

The location is stunning literally over looking the most beautiful valley. The owners welcome dogs so we were able to bring our labradors and walk every day.

The property was very well equipped and there were thoughtful touches like milk bread eggs biscuits when we arrived.

We ordered a Waitrose delivery that had arrived before we did but the staff had kindly put it away.

It was lovely to just arrive with suitcases and just feel at home,

The property itself is very well decorated and comfortable

We loved having the log fire to put on after we returned from the beach

The dogs would lie for hours whilst we cooked and read.

What ever the weather we can see how Champernhayes can provide lively accommodation and lots of things to do.

Before leaving we rebooked a long weekend in January !

We can see why our friend calls it her country retreat.

I think it's ours as well now

Amazing place for our family celebration

  • 5 of 5

We booked the splendid barn and two cottages for our wedding anniversary celebrations. The properties were beautifully decorated a real home from home. We loved cooking on the large Aga.The cottages were bright airy and had great facilities. All the bedrooms had en suite bathrooms. The views from the upstairs lounge in the barn were stunning especially in the morning and on a moon lit night. We walked down to the beach at Charmouth each morning and got fresh cakes and croissants from the bakery.

We will find a reason to return as often as we can !

Beautiful, property and location. Will go again!!

  • 5 of 5

Champernhayes offers high quality accomation in a beautiful location. A kitchen we'd only dream of. Plenty of room for all, light and airy. Woke up to a great view of the valley, right down to Charmouth beach. We were lucky enough to have the master bedroom with the 4 poster bed. We recomend the short walk to Charmouth that follows an idylic stream through the fields.
