l'oranger (previously Le Phare) is a chic and stylish one bedroom apartment located in the heart of Villefranche Old Town overlooking the exquisite bay of Villefranche and includes a secluded private garden/terrace. The apartment comprises 1 bedroom with ensuite shower room/separate wc, fully fitted open plan kitchen and lounge/dining room - all of which are decorated to an impeccably high standard with a classic/contemporary feel and where you can expect to find all of your home comforts. The apartment is situated steps away from an array of shops (bakery, butchers, greengrocers, tabac), restaurants, art galleries and a few minutes gentle stroll to the beautiful beach. The village benefits from a market selling fruit, veg, bread, oil, olives, cheese, herbs and flowers. The position of the apartment and garden/terrace boasts vast amounts of natural sun light perpetuating stunning views over the rade de villefranche sur mer and stretching across the bay to st jean cap ferrat. It is a perfect location for those attending the Institut de Francais.

To reach the apartment you do not need to climb any steep steps as you do with many of the apartments in the Old Town. The apartment has a 'chic' feel about the place, with its white washed walls, colourful soft furnishings, stylish french furniture collection and elegant finishing touches. It has all of the home comforts you would expect and truly feels like a home away from home.

The floors are tiled throughout with travertine stone tiles. Down lights are fitted throughout and upvc windows provide good security and extra warmth when required.

Local artworks adorn the walls which add a touch of class, colour and ambience to the place.

The library collection is ever growing thanks to all our guests and provides a varied read of fiction, non fiction, travel writing and recipe books.

There is a comfy large white double seated sofa, 2 armchairs, coffee table, 32 inch Samsung HD tv, lamps, round dining table, very comfortable dining chairs and suspended ceiling lights for added ambience when dining. Alfresco dining is available in the garden/terrace to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner or simply a glass of wine whilst reading a book or enjoying the sea view of the glistening Mediterranean. You can if you wish take advantage of the BBQ and cook fresh locally sourced seafood.

The contemporary style kitchen blends perfectly with the home furnishings. The appliances consist of an electric induction hobb, electric fan assisted oven and ceiling suspended extractor fan. A stainless steel electric kettle and toaster are provided, for the coffee lover there is a cafetiere, expresso maker and an Nespresso coffee machine and for the cook there is an array of herbs and spices to choose from.

An integrated dishwasher is available together with an integrated washing machine for all those laundry requirements.

  • The newly renovated en suite shower room comprises of a designer sink/unit with two drawers to store your toiletries and an Italian 'rain' shower with travertin tiles on the walls and floor. There is also an Axor mirrored cabinet and toothbrush holder above the sink which provides additional storage. There is a separate toilet with soft closing seat and lid and sink with Grohe mixed tap. Philippe Starck accessories include toilet roll holder and toilet brush holder. Bath towels, hand towels and shower mats are supplied as part of the rental fee. Beach towels are also included.

  • The bedroom consists of a top quality luxurious Euro king-sized bed which is dressed with white cotton sheets, duvet & hot water bottles (autumn/winter), vintage white throw and amazingly soft feathered pillows (2 per person). Stylish bed side tables provide additional storage dressed with elegant lamps for bedtime reading. A fitted wardrobe provides ample storage for hanging clothing, together with a plentiful supply of clothes hangers. A laundry basket, full length mirror, chest of drawers, dyson tall fan and Louis XVI chair are provided for your added convenience. The bedroom benefits from two large upvc windows with the added benefit of shutters to keep out the beaming morning sunlight. The ceilings are high which helps to keep the room cool with the air flow from the windows so you can rest assured that you will have a pleasant night's sleep. Whilst the apartment does not have the benefit of air conditioning it does possess several high quality fans which together with the sea breeze through the windows provides adequate cooling and airflow throughout the apartment. Also for your use is a large provencal style basket, lock and lock lunch boxes, beach towels, cool box, ice packs, cool bag and beach mats. We also supply parasols and a bat and ball for the energetic type. Other features are a good range of glassware, crockery and cutlery, oak chopping serving/board, sewing box, Nespresso coffee machine, powerful hairdryer, books, puzzles, and depending on the season fresh herbs for your use. Coffee, tea and sugar are provided free of charge. Toilet paper and kitchen roll is also provided at the beginning of your stay only. For drying clothes outside In the garden/terrace is a retractable washing line and clothes maiden.

Nice property but Very dangerous entrance

On entering the property from the street and opening the gate, you encounter a huge tree overhanging the entrance which has to be pushed out of the way before venturing down 7/8 very steep steps. This is bad enough during daylight hours, but at night, treacherous. The sensor light doesn't come on until you reach the bottom. Then on entering another gate, more steps onto the terrace, open the door to the property, more steps! I have walking difficulties but even my very able bodied husband found this a nightmare.

Only one hand towel and one bath towel per person. Didn't expect to have to wash towels on holiday. We have travelled all over the world, stayed in apartments, caravans, leading hotels, but not once have we had to find a supermarket to buy toilet rolls, as you are only left with what the previous occupiers left. Asked for more towels and toilet rolls but these didn't materialise.

Owner's Response: I would like future renters to know that the entrance is not dangerous. I have had many guests stay over the years and no one has ever raised this issue. As a contingency, if there is a problem with the sensor light I provide a small torch on one set of the apartment keys. In relation to the steps, VSM is based on a steep hillside and therefore most apartment buildings in the Old Town have a considerable number of stairs and much steeper steps than L’Oranger. If any future renters have walking difficulties please advise me at the outset of your enquiry. The steps in the garden and into the apartment are only a few, as can be seen on the photos on the website. In order to be transparent I will add an image to show the steps off the street which will show they are not particularly steep (no steeper than stairs in most homes) and that there is no huge tree, but a beautiful small tree which I prune on a regular basis. The apartment is advertised as self catering which means guests are only provided with toilet roll at the beginning of their stay which is the same as every other rental apartment in VSM. It is also standard practice for each guest to be provided with one hand towel and one bath towel as well as beach towels.

Absolutely loved staying in this beautiful house. The furnishings and decorations were beautiful. Just a short walk to the shops and beach. Gorgeous little garden, which kept the sun most of the day. Will definitely be returning.

Loved L'Oranger Will Definitely Be Back!

We arrived in Villefranche on a rainy night in October but nothing could dampen our spirits when we saw the gorgeous apartment and garden. As other reviewers have remarked it really is wonderful, Louise has thought of everything. We loved the information pack provided and found it very helpful for getting about Villefranche and the surrounding areas. Although we knew the area there were lots of places we were introduced to through the pack and the easy walk to Cap Ferrat became a daily fixture on our calendar.The apartment was a joy, so nicely decorated with brilliant finishes and appliances. The Bluetooth speaker and Nespresso machine were really well received by my husband. It was also really central and everything you could ever want or need on holiday was only minutes away including railway station, bus stop to Nice/Monaco.

The garden was lovely with some great seating with views of the bay. We enjoyed meals outside and loved the fresh bakery from the nearby boulanger. The apartment was so nice we didn't have the wanderlust and enjoyed our evening meals at the lovely dining table on a few nights following recommendations from Louise.This was unusual for us but we just loved the apartment so much we wanted to make the most of our stay.

Villefranche itself is so charming and full of character and we embraced village life and enjoyed saying "bonjour" to the lovely friendly neighbours. Donna who manages the apartment on behalf of the owner could not be more helpful and welcoming with nothing being too much trouble. We would love to come back to L'Oranger and will rebook for next year.

L'Oranger, Lovers and Couples,

What we liked about our booking was that we could speak to louise and Dan, about the Airport Transfer arrangements, They organised a taxi to pick us up, drop us 50yds from the property!

Donna" Who is a great contact. is key holder and caretaker, a wonderful, mature, fit, girl! She helped us down the stone steps with our luggage, Opened the door, and wow , this is better than the discription, My Wife, "Antoinette" is an interior designer, The interior

and garden, are set out with personal things, that makes the feel more comfortable, and we had a lot of respect for the property, Just how we would have it,, Lovely situation, everything was walking distance, The restaurants, convenience stores, the beach, They even supplied a sun mat, parasol and beach towels, We took the local bus, (800 yds to the stop) everywhere we wanted to go, Menton, Cap ferrat, nice, Monte Carlo,

We enjoyed a 1 day boat excursion to St Tropez, Starting from Nice Port! It was always a pleasure to sleep in the comfortable king size bed each night, The Old Town is so Quiet you can hear a pin drop! No traffic noise always a good nights sleep, We enjoy a couple of bottles of Ros'e each night with our meal of course, ! We just hope that we can get in again next year!

Absolutely lovely

Perfect position tucked in the pretty streets, but only 5 minutes to the beach. The apartment is ideal for two people, very well equipped and beautifully decorated. Eating out in the courtyard was also lovely. We will certainly be back.

The apartment is just as beautiful as described! We met the Agent Donna nearby who showed us in and we were so impressed with how clean and beautifully decorated it was! The views are stunning and the garden is so peaceful and a wonderful place to relax and enjoy alfresco dining!

We had a wonderful, relaxing week in Villefranche exploring parts of the town we hadn't visited before. I'm positive that we will be looking forward to staying here again one day in the future!!

13th Century Villefranche Sur Mer is a picture perfect French fishing village lying east of Nice that has retained its historical charm, with its medieval cobbled streets filled with pots of beautiful plants, flowers, hidden passageways, colourful Italian architecture and leafy sun dappled squares. There are many steps in the Old Town so if you have difficulty walking you need to bear this in mind. Living among such surroundings within the heart of the Old Town makes it simple to sync into village life and feel like a local. The ancient Citadel St Elmo is renowned for its museums, manicured gardens and open air theatre. The Citadel holds a prominent position overlooking the main square of the Old Town where you will find an abundance of vibrant cosmopolitan cafes and restaurants - the perfect place for an aperitf at night or by day a browse around the flea/antiques market. La Rue Obscure is the oldest street in VSM and to this day you will still find a network of passageways with dimly lit arched ceilings and doorways. (U2 filmed a music video in the famous street a few years ago). The glorious beach (Plage des Marinieres) stretches for 1km and is renowned for being one of the best between Nice and Italy. The Rade de Villefranche is a huge, natural protected harbour which means its a great spot to swim, dive or snorkel. If you enjoy sunbathing or simply people watching you can enjoy the international scene on the beach or kick back and indulge with a chilled rose in one of the beach cafes. Public transport links to VSM are excellent, reliable and very reasonably priced, so trips to nearby attractions to the surrounding towns and villages of Beaulieu, St Jean, Eze, La Turbie, Monaco, Grasse, Cannes, Antibes and St Paul De Vence are easily accessible. Nice is only a 10 minute journey on the bus where you can stroll, roller skate, jog or cycle (bleu velo bike hire available) down the infamous Promenade des Anglais, visit the Cours Saleya or park Le Chateau. If you have the benefit of a car you can easily reach Gourdon, Roya Valley, Valbonne, Aix en Provence, Cassis, Calanaques, St Tropez or head to the Italian hot spots of Portafino, Cinque Terra , Pisa, Lucca, Florence and Sienna all of which are drivable within a few hours. The islands of Corsica and Sardinia can be reached via ferry from the Port of Nice or by air from Nice Airport.
