We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Richard was a great host.
We made good use of the BBQ and pizza oven, and became good friends with Dougal the Dog.
Rural France with 5 star standards of cleanliness and comfort
Richard and Gwen were lovely - as was Dougal!
The cottage was very clean, well-equipped and I particularly loved the quality of the towels and linens (which I was assured were John Lewis).
The pool was utter heaven and the view from the back of the house looking over Montagnac and the vines was particularly lovely in the evenings - some fabulous 'lipstick sunsets' to quote John Hiatt! All in all a great holiday - thanks to both of you :-)
Thank you Susan for your lovely comments. It was a pleasure to have you staying at Vines Cottage. I hope that I may see you here again.
Lovely cottage in a fabulous setting!
We have just returned from a wonderful 2 week stay at this lovely cottage. The host, Richard, was very friendly and welcoming, as was his lovely dog Dougal! Richard was always on hand to provide helpful information about the area/property when required and to make sure we had everything we needed. The cottage was very well equipped, beds extremely comfortable, good quality towels and bed linen, the outdoor pizza oven and BBQ a definite bonus, we used both a great deal as it was very hot and we preferred not to cook indoors. There is a great outside seating/dining area in the shade of the mulberry tree and the pool was fab for all the family, particularly appreciated after hot days out sightseeing, etc. Easy access to the vineyards was ideal for early morning dog walks too! Also, wonderful views of the sunset from the property each evening. There is so much to do and see in this area: we visited the lovely town of Pezenas just a few km away - would definitely recommend the Saturday morning market. Carrefour is here too for your food shopping. Also, kayaking on the river, visits to several beaches (there are so many within easy reach). Marseillan was one of our favourites and our teenagers enjoyed the water sports offered there. Restaurants in the harbour are good too. Also, Aqua Park (cheaper and quieter than AquaLand), Montpelier is quite close if you fancy the city, BK restaurant and good bakeries in Montagnac. Numerous vineyards to visit and wine tasting to take part in. We really enjoyed the wines at Domaine de Hilaire. We would definitely return to this area, perhaps in the Spring or Autumn when it is a little cooler. All in all, we had a wonderful holiday, thank you Richard, we really enjoyed your lovely property! I always maintain that I have a superbly located property and excellent accommodation so it is good to see guests to Vines Cottage agreeing. Very kind comments from Simon and Jo for which I am most grateful.
A comfortable cottage with beautiful views
From a wonderfully warm welcome from the owner, Richard Cliff, and his very friendly dog, Dougal, to our departure, we enjoyed every minute at Vines Cottage. Long lazy lunches and dinners outside the front of the cottage in the perfect shade of a mulberry tree, cooling dips in the swimming pool, and a well equipped kitchen, made the week very relaxing. The cottage is situated within easy driving distance of the numerous interesting towns and villages of the region, as well as the sea. It is certainly a cottage we would love to return to, perhaps in the Spring or Autumn when the weather is not so unrelentingly hot as mid-Summer!
I enjoyed meeting Philippa and Brian and I thank them for their helpful and enthusiastic comments. I certainly hope to see them again.
Lovely gite , beautiful area
Owner extremely welcoming & helpful even when I got our booking dates wrong, & quickly sorted the plumbing problem we had.
Gite contained everything we needed with the added excitement of a pizza oven outside which we enjoyed experimenting with & hugely enjoyed our homemade pizzas. Lovely area to explore, local beaches close & clean, lots of information provided in gite, thank you!
Beautiful cottage in a wonderful location
Me and my husband, along with his parents and our two lively Jack Russell's, have just returned from 2 weeks at the Vines Cottage, and we're missing it already! The cottage is beautifully appointed with a well equipped kitchen, amazingly comfortable beds and quality bed linen and towels are also provided. The complimentary wine made using grapes from some of the vines on the property was a lovely touch and very much appreciated; a bottle each of red and white was waiting for us on arrival and halfway through our stay when Richard came round to exchange the bed linen and towels he also brought us another bottle of each! The pool was great, and very welcome when we needed to cool down on the days spent lounging in the sun when we weren't sightseeing.
Sadly we didn't get the hang of the pizza oven, we ended up with pizzas with soggy middles and crispy edges, but we did have fun making them!
The pretty town of Pezenas is a 15 minute drive away and has some lovely old cobbled streets, boutique shops, bars and restaurants as well as a couple of good sized supermarkets. We also had a couple of trips out to Meze, which has a lovely beach on the lagoon and again is about 15 minutes by car from the cottage. A bit further away (only 40 minutes drive) is the beautiful little town of St-Guilhem-le-Desert, we'd definitely recommend a visit as it's one of the prettiest places we'd ever seen.
Richard is a gracious host who was extremely helpful and had a genuine interest in getting to know us, as did his friendly, gentle dog Dougal. We had a truly wonderful holiday at the cottage and were glad to meet Richard, Dougal and, albeit briefly, Vaska the cat.
A very warm and complementary review for which I am most grateful. Lorraine, Richard and Richard's parents were very thoughtful, tidy and excellent guests who would be very welcome back at Mas de Bazin at any time.
Historic places: Pezenas 8km, St Guilhem le Desert 20km, Agde 30km, Loupian ( Roman villa ) 5km, Via Domitia nearby, Canal du Midi within 20 km
Set in countryside, surrounded by vineyards but close to small town, Montagnac and only 12 km from extensive sandy beaches.
