Beautiful cottage in a wonderful location
Me and my husband, along with his parents and our two lively Jack Russell's, have just returned from 2 weeks at the Vines Cottage, and we're missing it already! The cottage is beautifully appointed with a well equipped kitchen, amazingly comfortable beds and quality bed linen and towels are also provided. The complimentary wine made using grapes from some of the vines on the property was a lovely touch and very much appreciated; a bottle each of red and white was waiting for us on arrival and halfway through our stay when Richard came round to exchange the bed linen and towels he also brought us another bottle of each! The pool was great, and very welcome when we needed to cool down on the days spent lounging in the sun when we weren't sightseeing.
Sadly we didn't get the hang of the pizza oven, we ended up with pizzas with soggy middles and crispy edges, but we did have fun making them!
The pretty town of Pezenas is a 15 minute drive away and has some lovely old cobbled streets, boutique shops, bars and restaurants as well as a couple of good sized supermarkets. We also had a couple of trips out to Meze, which has a lovely beach on the lagoon and again is about 15 minutes by car from the cottage. A bit further away (only 40 minutes drive) is the beautiful little town of St-Guilhem-le-Desert, we'd definitely recommend a visit as it's one of the prettiest places we'd ever seen.
Richard is a gracious host who was extremely helpful and had a genuine interest in getting to know us, as did his friendly, gentle dog Dougal. We had a truly wonderful holiday at the cottage and were glad to meet Richard, Dougal and, albeit briefly, Vaska the cat.
A very warm and complementary review for which I am most grateful. Lorraine, Richard and Richard's parents were very thoughtful, tidy and excellent guests who would be very welcome back at Mas de Bazin at any time.
Lovely gite , beautiful area
Owner extremely welcoming & helpful even when I got our booking dates wrong, & quickly sorted the plumbing problem we had.
Gite contained everything we needed with the added excitement of a pizza oven outside which we enjoyed experimenting with & hugely enjoyed our homemade pizzas. Lovely area to explore, local beaches close & clean, lots of information provided in gite, thank you!
Wonderful property near the Sea and Pezenas
We came as a group of six adults and had a fabulous stay . The beds were very comfortable, and we were surrounded by vineyards for wonderful walks. The private pool we had was great....and we spent our days sunbathing and sightseeing. Our pizza oven just in front of the house was excellent. Pezenas is a short drive away too with lovely boutique shops.
Thank you to Richard for being so helpful and a wonderful host. We will definitely come back next year!
Many thanks for your kind review. I look forward to seeing you here again
My family and I stayed here late last summer. The property is perfect for a family holiday. Extremely well equiped and beautifully decorated. The pizza oven in the summer kitchen was a real hit with the children as was the owners dog Dougal! The house and pool were clean and tidy and I must mention the high quality bed linen house towels and pool towels. The situation of the gite is perfect for the beach and for a lake inland. Lots to do - walking, bike and horse riding, fishing accrobranch, water sports on the sea and on the lake, wine tasting and of course some very nice restaurants nearby. We had a fabulous holiday, thank you the Cliff family and of course Dougal and hopefully see you again later on this year.
Lovely to see that all the features of the property and the surrounding area were appreciated
Memorable Summer Holidays At A Wonderful Location
Our three daugthers aged 11, 9 and 5 and we spent two splendid weeks at the "Gite" (i.e. cottage) at Maz de Basin just outside the charming village of Montagnac. It was a memorable time in a charming location made special by its gracious host Richard Cliff (and his entertaining duo of pets Dougal, the dog, and Vaska, the cat!).
The cottage is adjacent to the large farmhouse amidst three hectares of enchanting vineyards. It is very spacious with three airy bedrooms and two tastefully architected bathrooms, of which one is an en-suite bathroom. It can comfortably house six individuals and is absolutely ideal for families with up to four children. The living and dining area are spacious and exceptionally well equipped (TV, a Wii, etc. which we hardly used), as is the large kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances including a dishwasher. There is a washing machine in the larger of the two bathrooms and laundry dries within minutes outside.
Outside, there is a shaded and airy dining area under a leafy tree which can seat up to eight. Right in the proximity are a real(!) wood-burning pizza oven and an outdoor barbeque fireplace. We had our fill of faux filet and real albeit charred pizza (it is an art and Richard "cheats" by pre-baking the base in an oven, which is probably the smartest thing to do to avoid the frustrations of charred toppings and soggy dough).
The pool is modern, sparkling and surrounded by a spanking-new wooden perimeter for sunbathing under a magically blew sky. It was large enough for three to four people and exceptionally well-maintained. Our girls spent most of the beautifully warm and dry days in the pool, competing for the award for the most wrinkly fingers and toes!
Montagnac is effectively a large thoroughfare en route to the picturesque town of Pezenas, about 15 minutes away from car. Beaches (we would recommend Meze, Portirangnes and Serignan) are each about 30 minutes away by car and very easily accessible. And there are a number of wonderful vineyards in the vicinity, of which we would recommend Cote Mas for a Sunday brunch (it's EUR40 per head -- and that's what they charge for children as well), which is quite spectacular. We followed Richard's recommendations and ate at BK in Montagnac, which is delicious. The restaurant in turn recommended Chez Hansi in Pezenas, which was unspectacular but absolutely delicious.
We look forward to revisiting this wonderful place, which we highly recommend.
It was a very great pleasure to welcome the lovely family of five in July. I quite missed them when they left.
Very pleased they enjoyed their stay so much and very kind of them to take the time to write such a full and glowing reference.
I do hope that they return. Dougal's life has been so dull since they left, so please come back and cheer him up!
Very smart Gite in beautiful surroundings
My husband and I along with 18 month old daughter had a really lovely week at the Gite, which is in pretty vineyard. It is very tastefully furnished with nice furniture, comfy beds and a modern kitchen. It was all on one level, the pool was fenced with an alarm and there was even a mini play park so we felt it was perfect for a family especially with young children. The pool was very clean with a lovely private decked area and good sun loungers. The pool was quite chilly in May but I expect it warms up when the weather gets hotter. The owner, Richard, was very kind and helpful although we didn't need much as everything had already been thoughtfully provided. There was even two bottles of complimentary wine for us made from the vineyard's grapes. We would definitely go again, highly recommended.
It is very kind of Julia and Chris to make those comments which are much appreciated. They are a lovely couple with a beautiful happy little girl.
They were the first guests this year and we are off to a flying start!
