18th century Former farmhouse in Hautefort, Dordogne, Aquitaine/Dordogne, France - The Perfect Place To Unwind!
We spent a romantic week in Lachaud in 1993 & fell in love with this house, the area & above all the people! By the end of the week we had secured our little patch of France! The house had not been occupied for over 30 years & was in desperate need of some TLC! Blood, sweat, tears & lots of laughter have transformed it into the wonderful home you see today & we look forward to welcoming you! The accommodation is equally suited to extended families, friends or couples. With its 5 Ensuite bedrooms & large living areas there's plenty of space for everyone. The beautiful countryside will appeal to nature lovers & offers fantastic walking, cycling, bird watching & photography opportunities. If culture & History is more you, you'll be just 20mins drive from UNESCO's World Heritage Site of Lascaux & the Vézère Valley. We do not live on site and we'll leave you to privately enjoy your holiday, we are however only a phone call away should you have any problems or need advice. Pets welcome!

Notes
- Notes on accommodation: Children are most welcome & we do provide high chair, cot, pushchair etc, but parents are reminded that there are steps to the front door & stairs to all bedrooms. The pool is within the property curtilage which is fenced & gated but this does not separate the pool from other area's. The pool is fitted with security alarm. The hamlet and surrounding area is very quiet & a wonderful place for children. Our own children have many happy memories of holidays spent here, catching newts & tadpoles, cycling & exploring. The house was built in 1788 and retains many of it's original features, wide floorboards, exposed beams & stone walls. There is a large inglenook in the Entré adjacent to which are the original stone hob & sink. The village of Hautefort is only 10mins drive & has all the services you'll need including 2 excellent restaurants, bakers, butcher, Fuel station, Supermarket etc. Dogs with responsible owners are most welcome, the walks in this area are superb. Wifi access. Outside: The Farmhouse is situated in the centre of the hamlet which is surrounded by acres of open countryside to explore and play in. The gated entrance opens onto a large courtyard which has parking for several cars. The patio adjacent to the pool provide both a sun terrace & a shady area which are great for alfresco dining & barbecues. Sun loungers, recliners, garden furniture & umbrellas are all provided. The swimming pool 8m x 4m has a constant depth of 1.2m and is accessed via roman steps - much easier for access than a pool ladder. The top step provides a shallow area for supervised paddling for toddlers and smaller children. The pool has underwater lighting so you can continue to enjoy the heated pool throughout your evenings! Please note the pool is not heated for bookings between 1st October & 31st May without prior arrangement. Smoking outside is permitted. Utility Room: American style Fridge/Freezer, Microwave, Please note: We have a separate Laundry see below. Cloakroom: WC & handwash basin. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen & Duvets (Winter & Summer) Pillows & cot bedding. 1 Bath, 1 Hand & 1 Pool Towel supplied per person. The house will be thoroughly cleaned before your arrival, please leave the house as found. Mid week cleaning by arrangement. Other: Laundry: Automatic washing machine, tumble dryer, clothes airer, ironing board & Iron.

Location
Coast/Beach: We are 2 and a half hours drive from the great surfing beaches west of Bordeaux but don't let that stop you enjoying your favorite watersports! We are only 16 miles from the Base de Loisirs de Rouffiac at Lanouaille which offers glorious sandy beaches & all watersports plus paint-balling, rock climbing & Archery. Activities are accessible to all and are supervised by qualified instructors. Travel: Nearest airports Bergerac & Limoges both approx. 1hr 20mins, approx. 60 miles. Brive 32 miles 45 mins. Flights to Amsterdam, London, Paris & Maastricht. Bordeaux 2hrs approx. 122 miles. Channel ports distance in miles: Calais 465, St Malo 433, Roscoff 517, Caen 354. A car is essential to fully explore the region. Distances: By car: Hautefort 10 mins, Montignac Lascaux 20 mins, Terrasson 30 mins, Sarlat 45mins Périgueux 40mins Brive 40mins. Further Details: There is just so much to do in the Dordogne it is impossible to mention it all! The Périgord is famed for its food & hospitality & the excellent local restaurants & Auberge are too numerous to mention here, more details are available at the house. Perigueux & Sarlat markets are not to be missed! Canoeing down the Vézère river is a must whatever your age! Passing by fabulous countryside, châteaux & historic villages. Stop for a swim & a pique-nique; it really is delightful! Book with any of the local centres, canoes, oars, lifejackets and waterproof containers are all supplied. Start at Montignac and select your distance depending on your group, the canoe company will then pick you up and bring you back to your car. L'Appell de la Forêt at Thenon 10 mins away, is suitable for those aged 7 to 70! A little too high for me! though the children love it and even hubby made it to the hardest stage! There are reportedly 1001 châteaux in the Dordogne - you'll need more than a fortnight to see them all! The local ones are Hautefort, Château de Losse and Château d'Eyrignac. Limeuil, situated where the Rivers Dordogne and Vézère meet is classed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. A bustling river port of old, the medieval village with its stone-built, dark-tiled houses so typical of Périgord Noir is now a charming, refreshing place in which to stop and the evening market is a must. Caves and caverns are everywhere in this region, they are all spectacular; Tourtoirac is the closest and is accessible to all including pushchairs. I could go on and on! But I'll let you discover all that the Perigord has to offer - you'll be amazed!
