Cottage in Frogham, New Forest, Hampshire, England - Ideal For Families And Those Who Love Walking

Bacons is situated in a lovely part of the New Forest and from the front gate you can walk straight onto the open heathland.There are many walks and cycle rides which are accessible from the cottage, without the need to drive. The original property is from the 17th century and was made of cob and the restored and extended in the 19th century. There is an original thatched building, built of cob- 'The Hovel' in the grounds. The village of Frogham has good pub, The Forrester's Arm, and a small 'village' shop. Bacons looks over Hyde common with its village school and cricket pitch. Full oil fired central heating, open fireplaces with logs provided. WiFi (unlimited BT broadband).

I live and work in London We have owned Bacons since 1991 and it has been a wonderful family home for the holidays.The children are now grown-up but we still like to come to Bacons for peace and quiet when we can!

We love walking, and the beauty of Bacon's position in the Forest, is that you can park the car outside and there is no need to drive again until it is time to leave.

Notes on accommodation: Suitable for children, securely gated and well away from main roads. Dogs are welcome, however we request that they are not allowed in the upstairs rooms. Outside: Large garden with outdoor table and barbeque for alfresco dining. Football net/ badminton net. Large paddock area. Utility Room: Washing machine Second fridge with freezer Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen is provided for the beds (pillow cases, sheets and duvet covers) plus kitchen tea towels/ towel for downstairs WC. Linen changed weekly. Individual towels can be provided at extra cost.

Fantastic relaxing holiday in a beautiful location

The location of Bacon's make it one of the best New Forest holiday houses we have stayed in. Coupled with the five bedrooms, two large reception rooms, two bathrooms, and a separate toilet, it makes it ideal for our large family. The beds are all comfy and the lounge with its open fire is the ideal place to relax after a long walk.Parking is right outside the property and you can walk directly from the house into the forest. Pony's roam outside the gate whilst deer often frequent the generous sized garden that surrounds the property. Local pubs and others further afield are also easily accessible by foot along the various walks. This will certainly not be our last visit to Bacons and we look forward to returning in the near future.

Excellent, had everything we needed!

What a lovely cottage. Our kids loved the location and were most excited to have deers in the garden and wild ponies across the common. The grandparents loved it and have already asked if we can all go back.

Bacons at Frogham

We had an enjoyable weekend at Bacons with three generations of our family. There was plenty of space and good walks from the door. Care is needed when driving on the gravel access but the nearby pub and Hyde cafe are an easy walk and welcome children . The cottage was warm and comfortable, perhaps some furniture needing updating but bathrooms and beds all good and a peaceful relaxing location.

Another excellent stay

Once again Bacon' s offered a wonderful break on the edge of the New Forest. Donkeys and ponies walk past the front gate every day. Would give it 5 stars but the lane leading down to the cottage has deteriorated over the years we have been visiting. Drive VERY slowly if you value your suspension! AGA is a delight to use and whole cottage is very easy to keep warm, plus open fires if you wish. Some of the furnishing is a little tired, but you might feel this is part of its charm. Excellent walk in shower and shower over bath. Excellent travel cot and high chair. Linen and towels very nice. Hyde is a lovely hamlet with a great cafe, the Hyde Out, for coffee

and meals. Closed on Mondays. Also a farm shop, but it does not sell food etc. Fordingbridge is just over a mile away and has a good Co-op open from 7.00am plus a butcher's and baker' s on the High Street.

Our 3rd visit in 4 years and we hope to return.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your review and we are pleased to know that you have enjoyed your 3rd visit to the house and the Forest. Thank you also for mentioing the state of the gravel track which leads from the road down to Bacons. The state of this does vary, and is more uneven after heavy rain and until repairs are effected by the local council, which regrettably often takes time. We now include advice for guests to negotiate the lane with care, particularly if arriving after dark, and if driving a vehicle with low- suspension. Paradoxicaly it is the fact that the house is on a non-tarmaced road that the Forest animals come right up the house and that there is virtually no traffic.

Changeover Day:
Friday, depart by 10am with arrival after 3pm.
Flexible change over between November and April.

Notes on prices:
Weekend and mid-week breaks are available outside the school holiday periods. The weekend price (2 or 3 night) are calculated at 70% of the weekend price. Discounts also considered for smaller groups.
