About Gillian Laurie

Langton Grange has been a family home for the past 30 years. My twin bother lived the adjacent cottage and after he passed away in 2006 we didn't know what to do. The cottage known as The Lodge was refurbished in 2010 and on completion of the works, everyone that came to see it commented on the dramatic transformation and how other people should be invited to enjoy it to!

Why Gillian Laurie chose Mid Sussex

We wanted to create a unique holiday retreat with all the luxuries you would expect at a boutique hotel whilst feeling like a home from home. We’ve always felt that attention to detail makes memorable holidays so it was very important for us to incorporate this mantra into the design for the Lodge. In December 2010 we were extremely pleased when we were awarded a five star rating and a gold award from the English Tourist Board, Enjoy England. All our hard work was worth it

What makes this cottage unique

From the biggest beds and surround sound audio visuals to double ended baths with room enough for 2 we’ve tried to add little creative touches that are appreciated by our guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

“The house is obviously a labour of love as every detail is finished to an extremely high spec and is so well equipped there was nothing we needed. The outside space is fabulous and spacious.... We can’t wait to come back! The location is perfect - 20 minutes from Brighton and if you are staying with children a trip to Drusillas Park is a must!”

Suzanne & friends, Essex, April 2011

“Have has a wonderful holiday. Swimming everyday in a lovely warm pool. Surrounding countryside is delightful to explore (Ditchling Beacon is a must!) Brighton Pavilion is spectacular, shops & restaurants well worth an extended visit. Delighted to see a family of deer outside the kitchen window on a regular basis. Gill & Vicki are very welcoming but unobtrusive hosts in just the right balance. The Lodge has everything you need & more and all the decorations & fittings are tasteful and of a high standard. We can thoroughly recommend it!

Exceeded all of our expectations. The pictures don't do the property justice. Gillian, Vicky and their team have done a wonderful job and nothing is too much trouble for them. Pure luxury that everyone can enjoy can't wait to experience it again and again and again!

Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Further Details:

The local area is packed with great places to visit. Whether it’s a walk that takes your fancy, the stunning South Downs is right on the doorstep, make sure you stop off at Devil’s Dyke where you can see paragliders soaring over head. Or maybe a bit of history is your thing, the spectacular Royal Pavilion that was the seaside home of George IV with its storybook turrets and sumptuous interiors. For a breath of sea air, stroll along the bustling Brighton beach promenade and soak up the cosmopolitan atmosphere at one of the many cafes and bars. If a spot of retail therapy is needed Brighton has a whole host of quirky and individual shops, as well as all the best High Street names.

Visit one of the great gardens of Sussex Borde Hill, where rare trees and shrubs inspire with colour and interest from spring to autumn. If Golf is more your thing we have two very good local courses nearby. For wine connoisseurs, Bookers vineyard at Bolney wine estate offers tours and tasting all year round. Glyndebourne, the Bluebell Railway, Hickstead, the South of England Showground and Goodwood are just a few additional reasons to visit Sussex however if it’s simply a bit of good food and drink you’re after, there are many great gastro pubs and restaurants to try.
