2 bedroom, pretty stone holiday cottage,full of character - superb base for 3 or 4 night break or fortnigh

Attractive old stone cottage refurbished by local craftsmen to high specification - log burner, full central heating throughout, exposed beams, modern and very well-equipped kitchen and bathroom. Outside there is a traditional cottage garden, plus a small secluded sitting out area and secure garage with four bikes provided for the use of guests. Located in the lovely village of Fenny Bentley, just three miles north of the market town of Ashbourne. There are two popular pubs with excellent food in the village. The cottage is close to the Tissington Trail, from which it is easy to access the numerous cycling routes in the Peak District. We have many guests who return for repeated stays.

We do stipulate that there is no smoking or pets in the cottage and short breaks are for a minimum of three nights.

My husband and I bought Yew Tree Cottage in 2009 and then used local well-respected and highly skilled craftsmen to carry out the renovation to a high specification. We hope that guests enjoy the character and relaxing atmosphere of the cottage as much as we do.

Why Sally Badman chose Fenny Bentley

The Peak District is a beautiful National Park and although easily accessible, it remains unspoilt and quiet. It has stunning scenery, a wealth of historical buildings, exeptionally friendly, genuine local people and lovely market towns such as Ashbourne and Bakewell.

It takes no more than 40 minutes to get to from either the M6 or M1.

What makes this cottage unique

Once at our cottage, it is easy to walk or cycle to Dovedale or the attractive village of Tissington without using the car. The Tissington Trail is easy to access again without even thinking about securing bikes to the car. We have four bikes in the garage which guests are welcome to use during their stay.

Only 200 metres away is a delightful family-run pub which provides excellent food and drink.

Above all, the cottage is a perfect place to unwind and relax in comfort after a day's fresh air in the beautiful countryside of the Peak District.

Car: recommended

Whilst it is preferable to have a vehicle to enjoy the Peak District, the cottage is 200 metres from a bus stop on the A515 Ashbourne to Buxton road.

The nearest railway stations are at Derby and Uttoxeter

The cottage is 30 minutes drive from both Junction 15 on the M6 and Junction 24 on the M1.


Fenny Bentley is three miles north of Ashbourne. Other market towns, Bakewell and Buxton are a short drive away as are Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Alton Towers. Many guests enjoy cycling on the handy Tissington Trail or only a little further afield, at Carsington Water.

There are beautiful walks - the walk to Dovedale starts from the doorstep of Yew Tree Cottage. Many other fantastic walks are close by - Monsal Head, Lathkill Dale and the Roaches to name just three of the more well-known.

Further Details:

Ashbourne is a historic market town with a good choice of independent shops, supermarkets including Waitrose, Marks and Spencer, Sainsburys, and many restaurants and pubs.

There are some great country pubs within three miles of the cottage.

The Tissington Trail and Dovedale are a short walk or bike ride away. The Monsal and High Peak Trails also provide stunning scenery.

Every Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, Ashbourne plays host to the unique and centuries old game of Shrovetide Football. Not like any other game of football anywhere in the world, The goals are 3 miles apart, play starts early afternoon and continues till 10'o'clock at night, the teams often swim with the ball when it enters the icy waters of the river running through the town - a sight not to be missed.

The annual dovedale dale dash, (held in November) great participation by the fittest and the not so fit. A great spectacle for runners and spectators alike.

Notes on accommodation: There is a garage for small car and bikes, (although 4 are provided by us for you to borrow) and parking is also available on Ashes Lane. Outside: There is a traditional cottage garden to the side of the house and a secluded sitting out area at the rear, both having table and chairs. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bedlinen are provided. If stay is for more than a week, we will provide a change of towels and linen, and the cottage will be cleaned mid way through your holiday.

Extremely well appointed property

It is very difficult to find fault with this cottage and much time, thought and effort has obviously been invested into making it that little bit special. Lots of unexpected plus points such as underfloor heating in the bathroom and provision of some bicycles. If I was to be hyper-critical I would caution that the main road passing the cottage can be quite noisy early morning, more likely an issue in summer when windows open. Perhaps a slightly more comfortable sofa in the lounge for couples to snuggle-up on together, but as said, that is to find minor fault with what is otherwise a cut above the norm for self- catering accommodation and I would heartily recommend it to friends.

Perfect cottage in the Peak District

This is a lovely little cottage which made for a wonderful stay in the Peak District. It is well presented, cosy and had everything we needed. The log burner was great in the evenings! There are lots of maps and guides on the area if you are short on ideas on places to see, and a good pub just a few minutes walk away. We wouldn’t hesitate to return for another holiday!

Beautiful cottage in the heart of a stunning area.

We had a lovely time. The cottage maintains its historic features yet has all the modern amenities you need. The walk to Parsley Hay on the Tissington trail was beautiful and the weather was fabulous, particularly for the time of year. The Coach and Horses was great for evening meals with a good selection and friendly service.

We had a super stay in a charming and well appointed cottage with all comforts that one could need

Sally and Roger have tastefully decorated this charming cottage and provided everything you could want. There was a welcome pack and note and plenty of information about what to see and do in the area especially walks in Derbyshire, Dovedale and along the Tissington Trail. Good recommendations for local pubs and eateries. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can highly recommend it.
