About Sally Badman

My husband and I bought Yew Tree Cottage in 2009 and then used local well-respected and highly skilled craftsmen to carry out the renovation to a high specification. We hope that guests enjoy the character and relaxing atmosphere of the cottage as much as we do.

Sally Badman purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Sally Badman chose Derbyshire Dales

The Peak District is a beautiful National Park and although easily accessible, it remains unspoilt and quiet. It has stunning scenery, a wealth of historical buildings, exeptionally friendly, genuine local people and lovely market towns such as Ashbourne and Bakewell.

It takes no more than 40 minutes to get to from either the M6 or M1.

What makes this cottage unique

Once at our cottage, it is easy to walk or cycle to Dovedale or the attractive village of Tissington without using the car. The Tissington Trail is easy to access again without even thinking about securing bikes to the car. We have four bikes in the garage which guests are welcome to use during their stay.

Only 200 metres away is a delightful family-run pub which provides excellent food and drink.

Above all, the cottage is a perfect place to unwind and relax in comfort after a day's fresh air in the beautiful countryside of the Peak District.

Definitely deserving of 5 stars

A beautiful cottage, with every need catered for including the provision of bikes and information on the local villages and surrounding countryside. Sally and Roger were friendly, easy to deal with and went out of their way to assist which was particularly appreciated given we were booking from Australia.

The Cottage is very clean, well decorated and very well equipped, we loved the wood burner the walks which are right on the door step as well as having Dove Dale close by. Alton Towers is only 7 miles away.

Wonderful cosy cottage, beautifully appointed!!

Can't recommend enough , stayed with our two children between Christmas and new year , wish we'd have booked for longer !

Kitchen is beautiful , really well equipped, loved the underfloor heating in bathroom , so warm and cosy we didn't need to use log burner !! Lovely pubs in walking distance we particularly liked the 'old dog' , we didn't really need the car once we'd stocked up in Ashbourne with its many shops .

Possibly the best find you'll find in Derbyshire!!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at Yew Tree Cottage desperate for some rest and relaxation. Not only did the outside look very twee and appealing, the inside was simply perfect! Beautifully decorated and clean as a whistle. It was "home from home". The owners have clearly thought everything through and there was not one thing missing. Warm, cosy, log fire and comfortable beds!!! I cannot recommend this cottage highly enough for couples or small families to escape every day life and switch off. 5 star rating, so much so we have already decided this will be the place we visit when we need a lovely break. Thank you Sally and Roger xx

Superb stay!

  • 5 of 5

Yew Tree Cottage proved an excellent choice for a mid-week break in this beautiful part of Derbyshire. Very well decorated and spotlessly clean, it provided a welcoming return after a day spent exploring the local area. The owners, Sally & Roger, had thoughtfully left an arrival pack of goodies - as well as a folder advising local walks and places of interest to visit. Correspondence with Sally was excellent throughout the booking process and we would highly recommend Yew Tree Cottage to anyone wishing to visit!

A* Experience

  • 5 of 5

Sally & Roger have put their heart and soul into Yew tree Cottage. We had the most wonderful weeks stay due to their care and thoughtfulness of providing everything we needed. Spacious, exceptionally clean with very good wifi. Very good position for major attractions plus good walks right outside the door.

You would be crazy not to book this beautiful cottage!

We will definately rebook if in the area

Car: recommended

Whilst it is preferable to have a vehicle to enjoy the Peak District, the cottage is 200 metres from a bus stop on the A515 Ashbourne to Buxton road.

The nearest railway stations are at Derby and Uttoxeter

The cottage is 30 minutes drive from both Junction 15 on the M6 and Junction 24 on the M1.

Distances:

Fenny Bentley is three miles north of Ashbourne. Other market towns, Bakewell and Buxton are a short drive away as are Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Alton Towers. Many guests enjoy cycling on the handy Tissington Trail or only a little further afield, at Carsington Water.

There are beautiful walks - the walk to Dovedale starts from the doorstep of Yew Tree Cottage. Many other fantastic walks are close by - Monsal Head, Lathkill Dale and the Roaches to name just three of the more well-known.

Further Details:

Ashbourne is a historic market town with a good choice of independent shops, supermarkets including Waitrose, Marks and Spencer, Sainsburys, and many restaurants and pubs.

There are some great country pubs within three miles of the cottage.

The Tissington Trail and Dovedale are a short walk or bike ride away. The Monsal and High Peak Trails also provide stunning scenery.

Every Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday, Ashbourne plays host to the unique and centuries old game of Shrovetide Football. Not like any other game of football anywhere in the world, The goals are 3 miles apart, play starts early afternoon and continues till 10'o'clock at night, the teams often swim with the ball when it enters the icy waters of the river running through the town - a sight not to be missed.

The annual dovedale dale dash, (held in November) great participation by the fittest and the not so fit. A great spectacle for runners and spectators alike.
