About the property

Converted Stable in Napton on the Hill, Warwickshire, England - Secluded, Rural Location Next To The Oxford Canal

Offers rural seclusion and a great base for gongoozling (canal watching!), walking and cycling. It is within easy driving to Stratford, the Cotswolds, Coventry Cathedral, Warwick Castle, Leamington Spa and National Trust properties.

The property is adjacent to the lock keepers cottage and was originally built for the horses used on the canal. The only other neighbours are sheep, although there is a traditional pub 100 metres away.

About Nigel Wood

The owner Nigel is a canal enthusiast which led him to the property in the first place.

Keen on all things steam, he occasionally crews on the Steam narrow Boat President on her trips away from the black country museum.

Other interests include cycling and motorcycling. Napton is a great base for doing both

Why Nigel Wood chose Stratford-on-Avon

Amazing picture postcard location

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing week at the stables. The property was amazing with everything we needed even a sun shade umbrella which I didn't expect to need for a week in Warwickshire. The location was perfect although a little too perfect as we had visitors non stop popping and repopping all week :-)

Would definitely recommend and look to visit again. Nigel the owner was very friendly and helpful. The best food/atmosphere we found locally was at The Folly but The Blue Lias pub shouldn't be missed with its canalside location and lovely gardens.

Owner's Response: Thanks for a super review and I am really glad that you enjoyed your stay. Sorry your visitors "re-popped" - keep it quiet next time! With the Folly pub being so close I tend to overlook the fact that there are many nice pubs in the area, canalside and countryside. Must get my bicycle out and visit them - purely in the name of research of course. Look forward to meeting you again. Nigel

Rural retreat within easy access of city amenities

  • 5 of 5

As ever this property is immaculately presented with thoughtful touches that make the holiday maker feel special. You could easily spend all your stay watching the boats go by and meeting amiable people in The Folly pub, you could travel to Coventry or Birmingham for some retail therapy. Stoke Bruene and gorgeous Stratford also are a must see, of course as is Banbury, I could carry on but I would suggest you book for at least a fortnight and see for yourself!

Owner's Response: Thanks for a great review. The thing that surprises many visitors to the Stables is that despite the lovely rural setting, you are not far (by car) to many towns, cities, museums, National Trust properties and other tourist venues. Watching the canal boats easily takes up more time than anticipated, as does visiting the Folly pub!.

We had a great time, the cottage had all we could ask for and Nigel was a great host.

Loved the views and the pub was very welcoming. Hope to go back soon.

Lovely secluded place

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was absolutely charming, beautifully decorated and we were welcomed with a bottle of wine and two enormous glasses to drink it out of. The position could not be better, particularly if you are coming from the city - beside the canal, surrounded by countryside. The only sounds are of sheep and abundant birdsong. And there is a quirky friendly pub virtually adjoining. We would certainly go back.
