About Prue Barlow or Imogen Annan

We bought the Upton Castle Estate in 2007. The Castle and gardens were in need of much renovation and renewal. Finding Creek Cottage, while walking round the grounds was like discovering a hidden treasure. It was a romantic ruin nestled in a thickly wooded area deep in the gardens. The roof was in surprisingly good condition so all the interior was intact but the cottage had not been lived in since just after the second world war. We decided to renovate the cottage keeping as much of the original interior as possible, with the addition of a new bathroom and kitchen to bring it into the 21st Century.

Why Prue Barlow or Imogen Annan chose Pembroke, Tenby, Saundersfoot & The South Coast

The Upton Castle Estate is situated within the only Coastal National Park in Great Britain and is only 4 hours drive from London. We love all that South Pembrokeshire has to offer, from the most beautiful beaches in the country (with less crowds than Cornwall and Devon) to the fantastic unspoilt, rolling countryside with so many spectacular stone built Norman castles. The tidal estuary location is a beautiful ever changing landscape that never fails to inspire us.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage's situation is one of peace and tranquility, it is well off the beaten track, the perfect place to get away from it all. The most popular beaches of South Pembrokeshire are only 7 miles away and it is a good central location to explore the other Castles and attractions of Pembrokeshire. Cottage guests are free to wander at all times in the 35 Acre gardens and woods that surround Upton Castle, Organically grown fruit and vegetables available according to season.

Notes on accommodation: Renovations have been carried out with ecology in mind. Central heating and hot water are from a new wood fired Rayburn. (All logs are provided) The property has been completely rewired but there is no mains electricity. Power is provided by photo-voltaic panels topped up by a generator which will cut in if more power is required at any time or there is insufficient sunlight! (The generator usually only runs for 2-3 hours per week in the summer months.) Access to the cottage is by hard surfaced, narrow lane through the gardens and woodlands. We are happy to take luggage and shopping to the cottage if people prefer to make the 5 minute walk from the Castle parking area. Outside: Private lawns surround the cottage and gently slope away with beautiful views, through trees to the rivers edge. There is terrace to the side of the property with garden furniture and a barbecue. Paths lead directly from the garden onto the woodland walks through bluebell woods and into the Upton Arboretum where many rare and unusual trees can be found. Guests have exclusive use of the 1/2 acre garden that surrounds the cottage. It is not fenced to contain dogs. Utility Room: Guests are welcome to use the washing machine at the Castle if required. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and all bed linen are included. Visitors are requested to bring their own beach towels. Other: The log store attached to the house contains ample supply of wood, a barbecue and garden furniture.

What a lovely find. Lovely semi secluded location with fantastic wooded gardens leading to the creek/river. Very quiet both day & night. Comfortable eco friendly cottage, unspoilt during its restoration. Very well maintain and fairly well kitted out for basic cooking. Great little hide away for a few days or to base yourself to visit the surrounding areas (car needed). Would I go again - definitely. Would I take friends - definitely (very comfortable for 4 people as we found out). Would I tell others about it - No because I want it all to my self! Can't wait to go back. I would be happy to go at any time of the year. My only regret is we only went for 1 week!
