About Maxine or Dave
Hello our names are Dave and Maxine we moved from the UK to France 12 years ago for a more relaxing lifestyle. When we first brought our property it was a run down Farmhouse that was used to produce local Wines and Cognac, over the years we have now transformed it into a warm and welcoming holiday home.
Maxine or Dave purchased this Cottage in 2001
Why Maxine or Dave chose Migron
After many exciting and interesting holidays exploring most of France we decided to choose the Charante Maritime area to purchase our first holiday home due to it's renowned micro climate and beautiful country sides.
What makes this Cottage unique
We enjoy morning bicycle rides up to the local Boulangerie and evening walks down to the stream through the Vineyards and Sunflower fields behind the property. The property is central to Cognac and Saintes which we find convenient for shopping and evening meals out.

Idyllic gite in a peaceful location
Our second visit here and just as good, if not better, than we remembered. This peaceful, rural gite provides a get away from it all break with the advantage of being extremely well maintained and having a very private restful outdoor area, including a good sized pool. Max and Dave are perfect hosts, very welcoming and happy to help if required.
We fully enjoy exploring this unspoilt area of France, visiting Cognac, Saintes and beaches at Royan and La Rochelle.
There is still plenty more to explore and we look forward to returning again.
Lovely gite with a fabulous heated pool
The gite was very spacious and well equipped for everything we needed to enjoy a family holiday. The outdoor space was particularly brilliant for our young children who spent hours playing in the garden and swimming in the fabulous pool. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a property in a rural location wanted to get away from it all for some quality family time.
Fabulous! Can't fault it
We had the most wonderful stay at the gite - so much so we have booked to come back next year. Dave and Max are so lovely and helpful, and yet leave you to use the gite as your own place throughout the stay. The area is beautiful and rural with as much or as little to do as you like! Great place - a truly idyllic holiday!
Amazing place to visit one of the best Gite I've been too within France .Extremely clean and spacious
Had all the right essentials required for a family environment indoor and outdoor
Maxine and Dave are very genuine people and fantastic hosts ,nothing was too much hassle which made our holiday relaxing
Newly fitted swimming pool was so clean with a great temperature so could get in anytime day or evening which was just great.
Great house, lovely location
Great property with a lovely garden and pool. Brilliant set up for kids with lots of garden toys if you want to use them (which we did!), and a fenced off pool gives extra reassurance with little ones. Lots to do in the area. Owners really helpful and friendly, and close at hand if you do need anything. Would definitely recommend this property and suspect we'll be back!!
The closest beach is Royan which is a 40 minute drive other include Rochefort and La Rochelle which are 1 hour away. There are 2 islands to visit, Ille Rè and Ille D'Oleron.
The 2 local airports are La Rochelle around an hour away and Bordeaux which is about 1hr 45 minutes away. The nearest channel port is St Malo, which is about 4 hours 30 minutes away. As la Tache is located in a small rural Hamlet, a car is essential
The market town of Matha is 10 minutes drive away and has a good selection of shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants. The historic town of St Jean D'Angely with its weekly markets is just over 20 minutes away. Cognac and Saintes are both about 30 minutes drive away.
The village of Migron, with its pretty, 11th-century stone church, is perfect for those who don't want to be too remote, with a mini-market, boulangerie/pattiserie, a boucherie, post office, and a weekly grocer's van selling fresh local vegetables. Oysters and mussels are sold in front of the epicerie every Saturday morning. Migron and the surrounding area is excellent for cycling - miles and miles of level countryside with virtually traffic-free routes through vineyards, fields, woodland and villages. Other activities include river trips, antiques markets (large brocantes held in surrounding villages regularly throughout the Summer), visits to chateaux, churches and museums, walking, cycling and birdwatching (74 hectares of lagoon nature reserves in the area). Sport and leisure in the area include golf (18-hole courses in both Cognac and Saintes which are 20 minutes away), horse riding, all types of fishing, tennis (including a court in the village), canoe-kayaking (boats to hire at various places along the Charente in Cognac and Saintes), and plenty of space in and around the village to kick a football. There is a market to go to practically every day of the week, in Saintes, Cognac, Matha, St Jean d'Angely among others, and there are many excellent local restaurants and auberges to suit every budget.
Cognac and Pineau des Charentes - a local aperitif - are available to taste and buy direct from local producers. A nearby village has its own micro brewery with mini-kegs and bottles to take away. Other local specialities include goats cheeses, oysters from the Marennes, mussels, and other wonderful seafood from the Atlantic coast. The best 'local' wine is Bordeaux - most grapes grown here are for Cognac or Pineau - and there are caves (wine co-operatives) in several local towns.
