Chalet Croix Blanche is a privately owned chalet in the small village of Les Masses at an altitude of 1500m, up from the historic town of Sion in Valais. The chalet was newly built in 2012 and is beautifully apportioned. It has five bedrooms (one with a king sized bed, four with twins), all with en suites (two with baths/showers, three with showers). The large living and dining area is south facing with an extensive balcony and stunning views up to the Grande Dixence dam and the Swiss mountains. The chalet has internet access and each bedroom and the lounge has high quality Smart TVs and an Apple TV with access to our own extensive media library. The kitchen is fully equipped: suitable for a family of ten. A travel cot and a high chair are available free of charge. The chalet caters for up to ten people and has a private ski room, a separate garage and ample parking for several cars.
Chalet Croix Blanche is owned by Rob and Julie Fisher. We live in South Oxfordshire.
Rob Fisher purchased this chalet in 2012
The family stayed at a catered chalet in Les Masses and we were truly amazed at the quality of the chalet (as well as the skiing!). When we were told that the same developer was building new chalets very close to the Les Masses lift, we were sold! We haven't been disappointed!
The chalet is very close to the ski lift and it is a short drive down the mountain to Sion and all the resources that the valley offers.
The views from the chalet are simply stunning!
We have built into the chalet all the things that we love at home. We have high speed internet access and can play from our own media server via Apple TVs in every bedroom and the main lounge. It is our home away from home.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Croix Blanche. It is a wonderful chalet which is so completely equipped with whatever you might need. Also we really admired the taste with which the things were composed and combined. The children adored the “mini cinema” and we adults did not have to choose which wine to put in the wine fridge as there are two of them! We will be delighted to come back one day.
It was a great pleasure to have been a guest for a week at this excellent, exclusive and warm house. We enjoyed the surroundings, view and atmosphere! A great place!
What an amazing chalet! Great location, equipped with everything we could ever need and beautifully decorated! We will definitely be booking for next season. Many thanks,
Geneva Airport is 2 hours away
Sion train station 17km away at the foot of the mountain where there is also an airport.
Use of a car is recommended.
Les Masses is 300m away. The larger town of Les Collons is 10 mins by car further up the mountain. Sion is 17km down the mountain.
There is a groceries shop in Les Masses, and a supermarket in Les Collons (a 5-10 min drive). For day to day provisions, you can buy pretty much everything you really need in these supermarkets, but as they are up the mountain they are more expensive. For the larger weekly shop, there are Swiss hypermarkets down the mountain in Sion and in Conthey - just outside Sion towards Lausanne.
There is a restaurant in Les Masses and many others both up the mountain and down in the valley in Sion and other surrounding towns.
Sporting activities can be accessed both up the mountain and down in the valley. Tennis courts at Les Masses are literally across the road and are owned by the commune and can be booked. There is a public indoor swimming pool at Thyon. The Wellness Centre at Veysonnaz provides a Spa which features a Jacuzzi, Hammam, Sauna, Caldelarium and Cold Water Baths as well as Massage and Relaxation rooms. Horse riding is available at a ranch in Thyon and there are stables at Vex. You can also witness cow processions and cow fighting which is a traditional local spectacle where the combative Eringer (Herens) cows of the Valais fight for the title of "Queen" which takes place from the end of June to the beginning of July.
There are a number of children’s playgrounds that are accessible in the Thyon region, including one at the restaurant in Les Masses. There is a Children’s adventure park at Happyland in Granges in the valley.
The strange rock formations of the Pyramides d’Euseigne are a sight to behold and the trip to the highest dam in Europe, the Grande Dixence, is well worth the trip.
Down the mountain, in Valais there is plenty to do and many of these activities will provide an experience that will live long in people’s memory. These include the underground lake of St Leonard, Thermal Springs at Saillon-les-Bains, Fishing and river rafting on the Rhone; Paragliding in the Evolene region and numerous vineyards to see (and sample!).
