About Kate Ellis

As a family owned cottage it holds many memories and all we wish is people enjoy it and respect it as a home not just a holiday let.

Why Kate Ellis chose Camborne, Redruth & Hayle

Our parents purchased the cottage approximately 30 years ago and we have spent most summers at Orchard Cottage and when our father retired they spent 2 weeks out of 6 enjoying living, gardening and sailing at Port Navas. We love spending time in an area we have come to love and my brothers sail and we all love the nearby walks, with various dogs. As we all work hard we do not spend the time we would want at Orchard Cottage and therefore we feel that other people would love to experience the slice of peace and calm in Port Navas, exploring the wonder county and the nearby countryside, coastal walks and wonderful eateries.

What makes this cottage unique

The sun terrace is a perfect place to relax and take in the calm, clean air of Cornwall. Orchard Cottage is an end of terrace cottage situated in the small hamlet of

Port Navas which is a picturesque little creekside village well off the beaten track as far as most tourists are concerned. For most of the nineteenth century it was a busy port shipping granite from nearby quarries. Helford oysters have been landed here for more than a hundred years and the Duchy Oyster Farm still operates from the quay. The tiny Village Hall hosts art exhibitions and other events throughout the summer. As our guest you’ll have have temporary membership of the Port Navas Yacht Club; a local institution and a great place for an informal lunch or Dinner.

Coast/Beach:

Port Navas is a peaceful hamlet on the beautiful Helford River. It is an ideal base for exploring the Lizard Peninsula. This area is renowned for its excellent walking and for having some of the finest beaches on the south coast.

Motor boats can be hired from Helford Passage, less than two miles away if you want to explore Frenchman’s Creek (little changed since Daphne du Maurier made it famous), or the many other unspoilt creeks, quays, coves and beaches of this area.

Distances:

We are centrally located to explore all that Cornwall has to offer: within an hours drive, Falmouth;Helston;Frenchman's Creek;Cornish Seal Sanctuary, Gweek; The Eden Project;Penzance; The Minac Theatre;St Michael's mount; ...and so much more!

Further Details:

There are numerous gardens around the area, with Carwinion Gardens, Glendurgan Gardens (National Trust) and Trebah Gardens all in the village of Mawnan Smith and not far from each other. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are a little further away, close to St Austell, as is the Eden Project - both are well worth a visit.

There are numerous restaurants around the area, a few of which are listed:Trengilly Wartha, Nr Constantine, Queen’s Arms,Constantine ,

Cove Bar & Grill, Maenporth,Ferry Boat Inn, Helford Passage, Guiseppe’s Italian Restaurant, Mawnan Smith,Indaba by the Sea (formerly The Three Mackerels, Swanpool) Red Lion Inn, Mawnan Smith.

There are boat trips on the River Fal, where you can enjoy a trip across Falmouth Bay and up the Helford River or, depending on the tide, a trip to Truro. The boats also make trips to Flushing, St Mawes and Smugglers Cottage. The majority go from The Prince of Wales Pier in Falmouth although the Smuggler’s Cottage boat trip goes from Customs House Quay at the Harbour/Docks end of Falmouth.
