'Tara' is a detached chalet-style house situated in a quiet cul-de-sac in the hills above Steephill Road, Ventnor with glorious sea views, We particularly love the view from the upstairs master bedroom as well as having a sea view from the lounge downstairs - we enjoy watching the ships and boats on the English Channel. Tara is a real home-from-home with good quality, modern furnishings and decor which provides excellent, spacious and uncluttered accommodation. Key features include: full Sky TV (including Movies, Sports and Children's channels) with Sky multi-room in lounge and master bedroom, PLUS BT Sport in lounge; 36" flat screen TV and DVD player with surround sound in lounge; flat screen TV/DVD in master bedroom; FREE UNLIMITED WiFi broadband; iPod docking station; washing machine, dishwasher and microwave, downstairs bathroom and upstairs shower-room; plus full central heating. 'Tara' has a sunny, landscaped back garden, with a raised patio, grass border and lawn to the side which has sea views. You might be lucky enough to spot a red squirrel, or glow worms after dark. The area is also good for bird watching. At night during the summer months you can hear the welcome chirping of crickets in the garden. Steephill Cove is within walking distance; an old fashioned 'picture post card' beach, safe for families, with bathing and rock pooling. Ventnor Botanic Gardens, one of Britain's great gardens with subtropical and exotic plants, is also a short walk away. All in all, 'Tara' is a beautiful holiday home with everything you'll need for a perfect holiday, whatever the weather.

About Caroline

We live on the English mainland with our 3 sons and have enjoyed annual holidays on the Isle of Wight every year since our first son was born (he was born in 1994!). In fact, Jez and I have been enjoying annual holidays on the island ever since we were children in the 1960s, when we visited every year with our own parents and families. This was many years before Jez and I met and got married and was one of the main things we had in common (apart from both supporting Crystal Palace FC too!). We love the Isle of Wight so much that whatever other holidays we have, we always make sure we spend at least one week on the island each summer and visit whenever we can during the rest of the year. Steephill Cove has always been our family's favourite place and we spend most of our time there - we enjoy its relaxed atmosphere, charm and seclusion, plus the fact that it has remained unspoiled and much the same over the years. We also love being able to eat and drink whilst sitting literally right next to the unparalleled, spectacular views of the English Channel, at The Beach Shack, our favourite venue on the cove.

Why Caroline chose Ventnor

We've always particularly loved the Isle of Wight and finally managed to buy a property of our own, Tara, in 2007 with a view to permanently moving there ourselves one day! With this in mind, we've made sure Tara is much more than a holiday rental property; we've used all our experience gained over many years of staying on the island to make it our second home and as such, it provides everything we would want in a 'home from home'. It really is a special place to us and if we were able to, we would certainly spend most of our time there.

One important factor in deciding to buy a property on the island was to make sure it was within our 'golden' location near to Steephill Cove. When we came across Tara we immediately fell in love its location and the spectacular sea views. It's a 20 minute, beautiful coastal walk into Ventnor, and there are unlimited walks and cycle routes on the island, but nothing is very far by car!.

What makes this house unique

We completely refurbished inside and outside to make sure it really is our home from home. That means that unlike many other holiday properties we have a full Sky package i.e. Sport, Movies, Children's channels, in the Lounge and in the main bedroom and also full unlimited WiFi broadband. We have also added BT Sport in the lounge so that we can watch the sport that Sky don't offer. We have full central heating throughout to ensure it remains warm and cosy at any time of year.

We landscaped the back garden in 2012 and we love relaxing there when we're not at the beach, or out and about, and enjoying an alcoholic beverage (or two!) and a BBQ whenever possible. It's a real sun trap in the summer and is an ideal spot for sunbathing, but has some shaded areas for cooling off and chilling out.

Rear garden is gated but children should be supervised at all times as there are steps leading up to the patio and a steep tree-covered slope behind. OUTSIDE - REAR GARDEN: landscaped raised patio with grass border, lawned area to side with sea views, area for patio furniture with sea views, lawned side area ideal for relaxing on sun loungers. Rotary clothes line. FRONT GARDEN: grass lawn and tidy shrub/flower border. French door in lounge opens onto a small patio to front garden with sea views. WILDLIFE that may be spotted from the garden includes red squirrels, badgers, hedgehogs, bats and glow worms. 'TARA' - a very well appointed property

We just want to say thank you for a lovely week at 'Tara'. The house was a delight and had absolutely everything we needed. We loved the location, and the views from the bedroom over the sea were spectacular, particularly during a late night thunderstorm during our weeks stay. Fortunately we were blessed with sunny weather during the day time. During most evenings we chose local pubs and restaurants to eat out. We did like the Italian called 'The Rex' and a bit further away a pub called 'The White Lion'. We also tried 'The Spy Glass Inn' on the front at Ventnor. All in all, a superb holiday and we highly recommend 'Tara', a super place to stay.

Tara - Simply The Best

For many years, we have been booking holiday accommodation on the Isle of Wight and in our experience, Tara is without doubt, Top Class – continuing to surpass by some margin, anywhere else that we’ve used. We have just returned from our third stay at Tara and all the qualities described in the 2015 review are equally applicable now – do read it – also the description / specification on Owners Direct, complete with many photographs, is very detailed and accurate - but to summarise, the location is superb, quiet, real sea views (which you don’t have to stand on a chair or wait for the trees to part to enjoy) with access to the coastline within walking distance. The house has high standards of presentation, equipment and cleanliness in a very welcoming and relaxing environment. All you need (and more) is provided and everything works as it should. The recent addition of an impressive Smart TV adds further to the comprehensive “in house” entertainment for those odd times when the weather’s not so good or you just want to relax for a while. The owners are readily accessible and responsive and clearly care about what they are offering – there’s no tatty clutter or sense of “that’ll do” about the place - a lot of thought and effort has been put into creating and maintaining a modern, fresh, easy living holiday residence, with a very homely touch. Highly Recommended.

Tara - Frankly my dear, it was excellent!

We have just spent a week at Tara, a lovely contemporary property set in a quiet edge of Ventnor. It has all the practicality of purpose-built holiday accommodation, but with the charm and cosiness of the owners' home-from-home. Well outfitted and spacious it also has many nice touches in terms of ornaments and pictures which give it character but not clutter. Everything is light and airy and the large front windows have views out over the rooftops to the sea.

Our visit had very mixed weather, and it was great to be able to pull the curtains and pop the heating on to shut out torrential rain one day, then open up the big windows and have lunch on the patio in the sun the next.

Tara is managed by the owners, and they were very responsive and helpful before, during and after our stay. There was also a wealth of information on site about the house, equipment, local places of interest, etc which we found very useful. The wireless broadband (essential these days) worked well and the Sky ‘everything’ package was a bonus. It is worth noting, though, that mobile phone coverage is patchy around this part of the island.

Ventnor has a lot to offer - coffee at The Royal Hotel, the 'fish three ways' meal at Foggs, lovely walks along the coastal paths and fish & chips from The Chippy were all highlights, as was a visit to the Heritage Museum for local history.

We had a great time here, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a base for exploring the island. Tara offers a homely coastal retreat from mainland hubbub without losing key practical comforts such as Internet access and a dishwasher.

Ventnor has a number of 'knick-knack' and speciality shops e.g. books, antiques, bespoke jewellery, vintage fashion, as well as small supermarkets (Co-Op, Tescos, Spa). There are many lovely cafes, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants in the town and along the esplanade serving food such as locally caught lobster and crab, steaks and traditional English dishes, as well as European and International cuisine e.g. Spanish and Italian. Takeaways in Ventnor include fish and chips, Chinese, Indian and kebabs. For fine dining there are the Hambrough Hotel, the Royal Hotel or the Hillside restaurant. Ventnor has a cashpoint outside Tesco and in the newsagents Post Office section, 2 chemists with pharmacies, plus a doctors surgery.

Eating places on Steephill Cove: The Beachshack www.thebeachshack-ventnor.co.uk (enjoy a drink or light meal whilst looking out at the incredible view of the English Channel from their terrace), The Crab Shed (light meals and refreshments), and The Boathouse (small seafood restaurant open at lunchtimes).

Each year Ventnor hosts: The Fringe Festival "A unique blend between a metropolitan arts festival and the traditional field music festival that the Island is famous for" which always coincides with the Ventnor Carnival; the Isle of Arts Festival. Ventnor Botanic Gardens is set in 22 acres with plants, trees and shrubs including rare and exotic species and has a cafe and gift shop, a cafe/restaurant plus a Visitor Centre. They also hold many events, exhibitions and workshops.

Annual music festivals – The Isle of Wight Music Festival, Eklectica Music Festival, V-Dub Island.

Annual Walking and Cycling Festivals, hugely popular with routes to suit all levels many routes to choose from such as walking on nearby Boniface Downs, the top of which is the highest point on the island. Cycle hire is available in Ventnor.

Water-sports, an array to choose from eg kayaking and body boarding – KAYAKS FOR HIRE ON STEEPHILL COVE – canoeing, surfing (Compton Bay and Sandown), sailing with the famous Cowes week every August and there's a small 'drying' harbour in Ventnor where yachts can make short stays. Fishing and angling are also popular.
