The local mountain, Bennachie, provides a number of walking trails to suit all or simply spend your time bird watching or spotting red squirrels. About Darren and Sharon Hall
Sharon and Darren Hall live with their two children in the adjacent Farmhouse. Both are retired from the Royal Navy and Darren now works as a civilian Helicopter Pilot and Sharon as a Tutor for Dyslexia Scotland. Having also relocated from the Middle East, the family have enjoyed discovering the beautiful sights that Scotland has to offer as well as its deep rooted history and variety of outdoor activities and, as a result, decided to provide a base for others to enjoy it too! Our first year in the holiday let business went well, our guests were pleased with the cottage and its facilities as well as its location. We have enjoyed meeting some amazing and fun people and look forward to sharing our home with this years guests.
Darren and Sharon Hall purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Darren and Sharon Hall chose Inverurie
Baikiehill gives us the opportunity to enjoy beautiful scenery and a peaceful lifestyle whilst within reach of fun things to do for the kids. We have the best of both worlds! Our family favourites include Portsoy, especially for its amazing ice cream, Pitmedden gardens are just stunning, Leith Hall has a beautiful setting and lovely walks and Loch Muich, Ballater has stunning scenery and deers roaming freely. Now in our second year at Baikiehill we are in the process of designing our gardens and updating parking areas. The new driveway is complete and trees have been planted. We have met some great people from as far afield as Canada and have enjoyed sharing stories with some ex Naval personnel!
What makes this Cottage unique
There is so much to see and do from this location. The castle and whisky trails are close and there is so much to learn about Scotland's heritage right on your doorstep. We particularly enjoy Fyvie castle with its amazing history and the cafe has lovely cakes! The Glenfiddich distillery is extremely welcoming and the tour very professional. Haddo House and gardens are spectacular all year round and has just updated its play areas and gardens. A day trip to Aviemore gives breathtaking views from its funicular railway or walking in the summer and skiing in the winter for the more active. Balmoral is within easy reach (seasonal) with its beautiful gardens and distillery. We are still being tourists after nearly four years here and still have so much more to discover.

Very peaceful location
The accomodation was just perfect. Really quite spacious living accomodation and two good sized bedrooms. Excellent base for exploring the surrounding area.
Very comfortable cottage with total peace and quiet
Stayed with my elderly but active, mum while we visited relatives in the area. We were very comfortable and felt very at home. Having a toilet on same floor as master bedroom was very important but wet room down stairs worked well for us all. I always discount cottages with showers over baths for my over 80 year old mum!
Owners were very responsive during the lead up to our visit so we were clear on how to find the cottage and what to expect.
Nice restaurant in Rothienorman only 4 miles away called the "Steadin", who even do meals to take away, therefore negating the need to go to Inverurie to find restaurants every night.
Thank you Sharon and Darren for a teapot....not always included and vital for homely ambiance!
Hi Janice thank you so much for your kind review, I am only sorry we didn't get to meet you. The earrings are in the post!
Hope to meet you soon.
First rate holiday home.
Darren and Sharon, the owners, rushed out to welcome us on arrival and showed us round the property to make sure we understood how everything worked. They had left us bread, biscuits, milk and fresh flowers as well as all the basic necessities. They were very hospitable and friendly and we got the impression that nothing would be too much trouble for them. We felt very comfortable and relaxed in this lovely, light and spacious property.
Lovely home from home
Very peaceful and just what the doctor ordered
If you want 5 star accommodation but without the price tag, this is the place to stay.
The property has everything you would need for a relaxing holiday. It's size makes it all the more appealing, we've never stayed in such a large holiday property that has everything you would need to make it comfortable and enjoyable.
The views are stunning and it's so peaceful we've never had such a restful nights sleep, even with the odd Owl 'hooting' at night. Easy access to all local roads to get your groceries and get to all the touristy things you do when on holiday.
The owners are the best hosts we've ever rented from and we can highly recommend their efforts to make our stay a pleasant and enjoyable one.
We would recommend this property to anyone looking for a Scottish holiday and we will definitely consider booking here again.
amazing accommodation and we were treated like family, nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. we would certainly recommend a stay there.
Thank you Barry and Anne, it was great to see you both, glad you enjoyed it. Please come again and tell the girls to come up whenever they want. See you next Summer!
