Calder Cottage is a quaint, quiet and well connected holiday cottage that is modern and incredibly well equipped. There are two bedrooms (one double and one twin), a master bathroom and a kitchen diner. The separate living room has double doors opening out onto a good sized patio and garden surrounded by the beautiful and tranquil Ribble Valley countryside. There are no busy roads or flight paths here, but there is a village pub five minutes walk away.

Local attractions include Pendle Hill and the historic village of Whalley each offering short walks or long hikes straight out of the door. You can be in The Lake District, Cumbria or The Yorkshire Dales in just 90 mins by car and we are always happy to help organise trips, travel and transport for anywhere you might like to go.

Calder Cottage is perfect for couples or families with children and every detail has been thought out to ensure you enjoy your stay.

About Ian Sherrington

We are Ian and Sue and have been lucky enough to welcome holidaymakers to The Ribble Valley from all over the world. Whether you prefer your privacy or to be shown the local sights of Lancashire, we look forward to making you feel very welcome. As neighbours you will hear very little from us. There are no pets in the grounds, so local walkers and the occasional grandchild of ours are likely the only other people you might come across throughout your stay.

Why Ian Sherrington chose Ribble Valey

The Ribble Valley and surrounding areas have been ranked one of the safest and nicest places to live in the UK. We moved here many years ago and have been in love with it ever since. Our location couldn't be better suited to explore the North of England. The coast is close, The Lake District and Yorkshire Dales sit on our doorstep and we can be in London or Glasgow in a little over two hours, all benefits our guests continue to enjoy.

Beautiful modern cottage in serene setting

The cottage is accessed by a private driveway off a narrow road, so privacy is pretty well guaranteed. A spacious kitchen with all the necessary appliances opens up to the hallway and access to the bedrooms, bathroom and lounge. Outside is a private patio and adequate parking. Furnishings are well chosen for the cottage, and beds are comfortable. The owners are welcoming and helpful, even providing additional assistance in the form of maps, for proposed walks.

We loved our stay, would fully recommend Calder Cottage, and will consider it for a return to the beautiful Ribble Valley.

A warm welcome, clean and well appointed accommodation in a lovely location

The owners were very welcoming and the property was immaculately clean. We had received directions a few days before, and although the cottages are a little off the beaten track, they are in a beautiful location. We were going to a wedding at Mitton Hall and the owner very kindly took us in his own car.

Calder Cottage, Beautiful and Great Location

I found Calder Cottage by chance on the internet. I Was looking to stay in Sabden, as I have family there, but upon finding Calder Cottage, hit the jackpot. Looking at it on the internet, I was pleasantly surprised, but upon arrival I was even more delighted, looks nicer than the pictures in the flesh. High standard of cleanliness and ticked the box in every way for me, my wife and 5 month old baby. Provided a crib, lots of little extra's such as nappy bin, changing matt, didn't want for anything. Great location, quietly tucked out of the way, up on a hill, with beautiful surroundings and view. Ian and Sue are really friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay again.

All is Calm in Calder

It was great to be met by Sue & Ian who showed us the facilities. "Anything you need please knock on our door". The property was very clean and kitted out with all that was necessary for a relaxing stay. Set in a quiet location but within a 10 minute walk of a friendly pub. The west coast, Blackpool etc, is in easy reach by car as is the Forest of Bowland which is an AONB. The village of Waddington is picturesque and contains the Country Kitchen Cafe which serves, amongst many other things,scrumptious scones. We would recommend this property without hesitation and hope to return in the near future.

A lovely stay

This is an excellent place to stay and see the local area. We were visiting friends nearby and wanted a place that gave us all a bit of freedom!! The house was immaculately maintained and all served all of our needs. We were a family of 4 and found there was enough space for us all (our two little boys shared a twin bedroom). Ian and Sue were always most helpful and accommodating to our needs (even with a bit of a breakage!!!). I would certainly stay again if we needed a place whilst visiting Clitheroe.

Calder Cottage is the perfect place from which to enjoy special interest holidays. Much of our Ribble Valley location lies within The Forest of Bowland, an official Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

If you fish, we are perfectly located for the River Loud, River Hodder and River Ribble. Wildlife and Bird watching are also particularly popular with the Trough of Bowland, heather clad moors and wooded valleys all on our doorstep. Martin Mere, the WWF wetland in Burscough is also less than an hour away.

Walking, cycling and mountain biking are popular pursuits with our guests, as is horse riding as we are close to the famous North Lancashire Bridleway that runs from Chipping to the edge of the Lake District.

Other attractions popular with guests include: Alton Towers, Blackpool Tower Ballroom, East Lancashire Railway, The J.R.R Tolkien Trail and the East Lancashire Railway.

All can be organised and enjoyed throughout your stay and should you need transport anywhere, we would be more than happy to arrange it for you.

Calder Cottage is attached to a larger family owned property with two other holiday cottages opposite each accommodating 4/6 people. Fresh eggs, milk and other supplies can all be supplied on request. A welcome food pack and some basic supplies can be arranged ahead of your arrival for a small charge. Sadly we do not accept pets.
