Apartment in Porthmadog, Wales - Peaceful Location, Short Walk To Beaches, Shops And Restaurants
About Emma Patchett
My name is Emma Patchett and I live in Warwickshire with my husband and two children. Before having my children I had a career as a solicitor, although I decided to give up my legal position whilst the children are young. I now work part-time. The apartment in Porthmadog belongs to my mother. It is in such a beautiful and peaceful spot, with every type of amenity close by. We hope it appeals to many types of holiday maker - walkers, beach lovers, climbers, wildlife enthusiasts, fans of steam railway or those who simply want a restful holiday watching the yachts in the harbour. Our children have loved trips to the beaches and amazing coastal castles nearby. All of our family have had wonderful holidays in the apartment and we would like others to be able to enjoy the delights of Snowdonia too!
Emma Patchett purchased this Apartment in 1997
Why Emma Patchett chose Porthmadog
Snowdonia is a wonderful destination for a holiday. We love the area because there are so many different things to do and it also has both spectacular coastal and mountain scenery. The apartment is ideally positioned to take advantage of both. The apartment is very quiet and peaceful and is at the edge of the small town of Porthmadog. It is situated on the Harbour, the access road is actually part of the Welsh Coastal Path. In the 19th century Oakley Wharf was a busy quayside loading Welsh slate for export around the world, and the area retains many historic features. It's only a few minutes walk to restaurants, pubs, shops, beaches and Ffestiniog railway station where you can travel by steam train into the surrounding countryside. The apartment can cater for everyone's holiday needs!
What makes this Apartment unique
One of the best things about Oakley Wharf is its waterside location and the fabulous harbour views from the garden. This makes it a wonderful spot for sitting in the garden, having a cup of tea/glass of wine, or eating, and watching the boats go by. To the left you can see the ever changing colours of the mountains of Snowdonia and to the right is the Glaslyn estuary with its varied bird life and the beautiful sea views. From the front door it is a pleasant walk to the beaches beyond Borth-y-Gest or the shops & cafes of Porthmadog High Street. You can choose a short stroll or a longer hike along the coastal paths, past beaches and coves with spectacular views. The Ffestiniog railway is also very nearby for memorable steam-powered trips into Snowdonia.

Lovely space to stay in
This lovely apartment is ideal for anyone visiting the area. The beds are some of the comfiest I have experienced in rental properties! The owner has clearly thought about what visitors need and it is comfortable and well equipped. The patio opens onto the harbour where there is always something happening. It is within an easy walking distance of many eating places and local shops as well as the Ffestiniog railway station.
Great, modern property in a fantastic location for exploring the Snowdonia area.
Staying by the harbour-side has been such a fabulous family experience. The town, beach and Ffestiniog Railway station are all walking distance. There are plenty of OS maps and other leaflets in the apartment with suggestions of walks and other adventures. The apartment is very modern and clean with comfortable beds. We especially appreciated the tea and coffee, milk and biscuits set up for our arrival. Also beach essentials and crabbing buckets/nets were available to use. All these little extras made it possible for us to make the most from all this area has to offer. Everything has been thought of. Having a cup of coffee in the morning watching the sunrise over the mountains was a glorious and peaceful way to start the day. We would definitely recommend this property - great communication with Emma the owner. Thank you for a wonderful Easter break!
Thank you so much for your wonderful review of the apartment, we appreciate it very much and are delighted you were able to enjoy so many activities during your stay. We look forward to welcoming you again!
Well equipped flat, lovely location with views of the harbour and mountains
We wanted a place to stay so we didn't need the use of a car, a perfect spot to walk the coastal path from, if you don't fancy walking back there are several train stations along the route, also many local walks. Spent most evenings watching the tide going in/out of the harbour, amazing views both ways. Had a very relaxing time, thank you for the use of your flat.
Many thanks for your positive review and for taking the time to give your feedback. We're delighted that you enjoyed the harbour-side spot and enjoyed the many walks local to the area. We look forward to welcoming you back!
Lovely position, overlooking the harbour and the estuary, just a short walk into the town.
The apartment was great. Well equipped and compact. The beds were very comfy ,maybe a thicker quilt on the double bed would be beneficial in the winter . Plenty of storage space in the bedrooms and tastefully decorated. The Australia pub in the town does a great beer battered fish and chips ,but on a Sunday it is hard to find places to eat.!!! The area is well worth exploring and Dylan's in crickieth is definitely worth a visit for great food and the atmosphere. We would love to return to Oakley Wharf again . Thank you.
Thank you so much for your positive review, it is much appreciated. We agree that the Australia pub and Dylan's are both well worth a visit! Look forward to welcoming you again.
