About Charles Kirkman
Christine and I live in Baslow just 4 miles from Bakewell and so are able to be on hand to look after our cottages and our guests if there are any problems. We have a local business which provides services all over the Peak District and so we love the area and know it well and are always pleased to give local information to help you make the most of your stay.
Charles Kirkman purchased this House in 2007
Why Charles Kirkman chose Bakewell
Brew House is such an unusual property in that it offers the friends or family group the opportunity to socialise together in warm comfortable surroundings whatever activities you want to do.It is very close to the centre of town yet is also quiet and has great amenities in parking and accommodation. Christine and I moved to the area 18 years ago and set up a business providing services to local residents and businesses which has enabled us to become a part of the community and also get to know the area very well. We love the beauty of the countryside and the diversity of the different villages, the local customs and festivals and of course the people who live here. Bakewell is the centre of the Peak District and is a tourist attraction in itself, but it also makes the surrounding area very accessible by car, on foot or by public transport.
What makes this House unique
Brew House is very spacious and rather unusual as it is an "upside down" house. The benefits of this are that the large living space makes a very light and warm area where everybody can get together and enjoy one another's company whether cooking, eating or just relaxing. Free Wi-Fi is now also available. There are very few if any other houses available in Bakewell with the accommodation the Brew House offers in having 3 bedrooms and bathrooms and parking for 3 cars all within 300 yds of the Town Centre. The walk into town is flat and level and so is very easy giving great access to the shops, pubs and restaurants without getting the car out.

Terrific location, charming place
Very welcoming apartment in charming Bakewell. Clean, spacious, well appointed. Bright and clean. The sky-light adds fantastic light. The beds are comfortable, and each with its own bathroom. Just a pleasant short walk into town for pubs, bakeries, and grocery store. Highly recommended. We especially enjoyed renting bikes on the Monsail bike trail for a lovely afternoon.
We are delighted Jim and his family enjoyed Brew House so much and loved all that the house has to offer. His comments are really appreciated and they make the effort we put in to provide a clean and comfortable property worth while.
We have two other cottage properties in Bakewell too that offer different sized accommodation which we present to the same high standard, all being Tourist Board 4 star rated.
Perfect place in the perfect location
My husband and I, his parents, and our three year old spent an ideal three nights at this property in early January. The place was perfect. Well laid out and equipped, it provided privacy, and met all our needs. Charles, the owner, was helpful, professional and incredibly prompt in all communication.
Bakewell Town Centre was minutes away. Chatsworth a mere 10-15mins. Castleton, with all its charm was 25-30 mins drive. There is so much to do, and I cannot recommend this property and its location highly enough.
We would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend for couples, family, friends.
Great apartment for 6 in Bakewell.
Loads of space for our group of 5 adults. Comfortable, quality furnishings with personality. The kitchen dishes/pots/pans were great. Great Bakewell location (quiet). As others have said, parking requires some skill -
The Brewhouse Rules

very enjoyable stay
Very comfortable property conveniently situated in centre of Bakewell but fairly quiet at the same time. It met expectations as per description beforehand.
Ideal location and very well equipped
Ideal location just a short walk from the town centre. Very well equipped kitchen and living area, there isn't much that the owners haven't thought of. Generous rooms with plenty of communal space and a good outside area. Parking is absolutely fine for one car, we had no problems at all with a fairly large car. In summary, we would definitely stay here again. We regularly hire cottages in the UK and this is possibly the best we have stayed in for all round location, quality of accommodation and in our opinion, the most thought that has gone in to what you might need as a guest for a week away
We really appreciate the positive comments especially that Brew House was perhaps the most complete property Stuart had ever stayed in, with the most thought that he has known going into the comfort and needs of our guests. We try to achieve the same outcome at our other cottages in Bakewell too, Anne Cottage and Butts Cottage, which both have their own character but are all really well situated too and with car parking.
Special interest holidays: If you are a cyclist or walkers we can help with local trails and walks. There are several cycle trails for the less adventurous or children such as the Monsall Trail or Tissington Trail which are both old railway lines and so are relatively flat and easy to navigate. There are of course many hill tracks and trails where we can give advice. There is fly fishing available on the River Wye. Travel: We are about an hour from Manchester and East Midlands Airports. The nearest train station is at Grindleford and the nearest large main line stations are in Chesterfield or Sheffield. The area is well served by buses from the centre of Bakewell and taxis are available in town. Distances: Chatsworth House - 2 miles Haddon Hall - 2 miles Alton Towers - 29 miles Chesterfield, Buxton and Matlock - 12 miles Sheffield - 16 miles Manchester - 25 miles Further Details: There is a Co-op supermarket in Bakewell, larger supermarkets can be found in Chesterfield and Sheffield. The is a very good assortment of food pubs and restaurants in Bakewell, Baslow and many other villages around.
