The Loggia is part of our 23 acre organic farm naturally cultivated for centuries. It is our priority to keep everything pristine. We are located on the outskirts of the stunning medieval hill town of Volterra. The gorgeous, verdant valley surrounding The Loggia is the perfect place to relax and recharge. A stay here can offer a marvelous contrast to the better known wonders of a Tuscan holiday. The scenery in this part of Tuscany is superb. Surrounding the house and pool are beautiful views of this serene valley and beyond to rolling hills. There are a wide variety of birds and animals. Volterra is a fantastic center from which to visit Tuscany with Pisa at 1 hour by car, Florence at 1.5 hours, San Gimignano at 50 minutes, Sienna at one hour and the beach with much of the amazing coast at less than one hour. And many superb, attractive villages in Tuscany including the superb Chianti region are also within this short distance. Here we offer something for everyone from amazing culture, beautiful landscapes, to peaceful relaxation and a beautiful pool.
About: Hi: I'm Jim and I was born in California and have lived in Europe for almost 20 years now. Hello I'm Catherine. I was born in Nimes. We moved here over two years ago for the culture, beauty and the lovely people that are the Italians. We're dedicated to living with the least possible impact on the environment and have a completely sustainable farm producing organic olive oil and red and white wine. And we're also producing hot water and electricity from the sun. We'd love to show you how we do it all. And we can put you in touch with much of the local artistic and culinary culture too. That includes the amazing work of local alabaster craftsmen and an organic association of local farmers. Also a big part of life here is the amazing beauty our valley, the Tuscan landscape and coast.
Jim Jordan purchased this farmhouse in 2011
We love it here in Volterra; it's fantastic. As nice as anything we've seen in all our visits to Tuscany. It's at the doorstep of so much -Renaissance art and architecture, beautiful cities both big and small, and yet our property is so quiet and pleasant -wild flowers and green everywhere, with bird songs and streams. And, additionally, there are amazing day walks to do as well as very nice places to swim -at a pristine local mountain river and at the beautiful coast.
And let's not forget the superb wines the area has to offer with tastings everywhere. The Super Tuscan and Chianti regions are very close by as is the good wine area of San Gimignano.
We can offer you here a real chance to relax and partake in the very dynamic, healthy and stimulating Tuscan way of life.
Only 6 minutes by car on the north side of the mediaeval hill city of Volterra, our verdant valley surrounding The Loggia is a very calm and lovely mix of woods, fields and olive groves. A little piece of paradise. And the views are stunning. The scenery in this part of Tuscany is superb -the famous rolling hills with cypress, parasol pines and light colored gravel roads. Our environment here has been carefully conserved with fine wild flowers and birds (golden orioles nest by our stream), and you may see wild boar, porcupines, deer, fox and even a badger or house martin. There are fine Etruscan and Roman remains close by and Volterra and the region also offers some fine restaurants, bars, cafes and shops too.
And at The Loggia the new infinity pool completes the offer for enjoyment.
Jim & Catherine very welcoming, helpful and hospitable. Amazing views. Volterra is lovely, and you can drive to Siena and other Tuscan delights easily, so a good base for that. We did enjoy our stay, and particularly the fact that this really is only for 2 people.
The Loggia was all we expected it to be..charming, tranquil, the ideal tuscan rustic retreat.
Our hosts, Jim & Katherine, were excellent and so welcoming it felt we were staying with old friends. They went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed and passed on their local knowledge about the area and suggested numerous places for us to visit.
We found Volterra to be an ideal base for visiting Tuscany, with Pisa, Florence and Sienna all within an hour or so drive. Volterra is charming, with much to see and with plenty of good restaurants to choose from (Ask Jim where to go for what we considered were the finest pizzas in Italy).
The location of the Loggia is stunning; tucked away on the side of a valley with far reaching views and yet still within walking distance of the town centre (though a bit of a climb).
Thank you Jim & Katherine for a wonderful time and we hope to return one day!
This is a wonderful haybarn conversion in a beautiful part of the world. All the facilities you would need are there and Jim and Catherine, your hosts, are in the main farmhouse. They are sweet, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive, when I thought my passport had been dropped in a car park, Jim made me feel much better!
You will have a fabulous holiday here and we hope sometime to return,
We found the loggia to be more than anticipated. It is in a beautiful serene valley just below the ancient captivating hill city of Volterra. It is a perfect place to escape the heat and crowds of the major Tuscan destinations that are an easy drive away. This beautiful organic farm has a tepid pool with a view that captures the imagination. The clean, quaint, comfortable, well appointed room has windows that frame this view from two sides. The cute fully equipped kitchen made meal preparation easy, and adjacent private covered patio made them romantically private. The farm is a collage of pictures or paintings waiting for artists. Both Jim and Catherine paint and are engaging informed knowledgeable and helpful hosts. Walking/hiking through this valley is very pleasant and interesting from both a natural and historical perspective. The town of Volterra has many festivals and celebrations during the year so ask the hosts about them, and the beaches and river swimming holes to drive to. If you are a vinofile the super Tuscan wineries are close. The wine produced on farm is good and their olive oil is second to none. We plan to return and have recommended the loggia to many.
Delighted ! All our thanks to Catherine and Jim for the accomodation and the warm and friendly welcome. We were looking for a quiet place in the countryside to take a rest and found this haven of peace in Tuscany...
The farm is located in a beautiful and green valley and the loggia is a nice romantic little place.
Don't expect to find a four or five star hotel accomodation and service here, but a good and up to a excellent standard of "agriturismo" genuine organic farm. Service was fine, attention and care. Guests are welcome to wander around in picturesque Volterra, visit Tuscany or discover organic wine and oil making. We didn't have time to test the swimming pool, but I have to say that the wine was really fine and the olive oil, excellent ! A fragrance, taste and quality you will not find in stores or supermarkets.
Not only do I recommend this place to my friends and relatives, but we'll be back again next year.
We went at Jim & Catherine's loggia last year and are very pleased to go back there in a couple of weeks. They both are very welcoming. My wife and I had spend a wonderful romantic getaway.Flowers and olive trees everywhere and a breathtaking view on the Tuscany valley. The swimming pool is quite large, and overhang the landscape.
The loggia was perfect for the two of us, full of charm and build in old stones. I would really like to rate 5/5 but the stairs between the bedroom and the bathroom were very steep.
I highly recommended you to go there, our stay was magic.
Owners Jim & Katheryn very welcoming, helpful and hospitable. Amazing views. Definitely only for very mobile couples though. Logia quirky as per description, but everything more basic than we were expecting and could do with upgrading to make it a more comfortable stay. Kitchen also very basic and not well equiped so self-catering difficult. Bathroom disappointing. This wasn't really reflected in the price paid. Location in a lovely valley, but this is off the beaten track and you will need a car to get anywhere. You could walk to Volterra (uphill) but this wont be a stroll and no good after a night out! A lovely swimming pool and Jim & Katheryn are working hard to landscape the grounds, but when we went there was no path from the Logia to the pool area - so very much a work in progress. We sampled their home produced olive oil and wine and it is evident there is a lot of work going into making it their home. Volterra is lovely, and you can drive to Siena and other Tuscan delights easily, so a good base for that. We did enjoy our stay, and particularly the fact that this really is only for 2 people, but better facilities for paying guests would have made it perfect.

There are some fine beaches at a 45 minutes drive and more from the house. Some are beautiful broad beaches of several kilometers length -great for pleasant walks. Others are beautiful coves and small inlets with beautiful turquoise water.
From Volterra Pisa and its airport are at 1 hour by car, Florence and its airport at 1.5 hours, San Gimignano at 50 minutes, Sienna at one hour and the beach with much of the amazing coast at less than one hour. Many superb, attractive villages including the Chianti region are also within this area.
A car is not essential -public transport is also possible via the very good but little known bus and train systems: it is easily possible to arrive in Volterra by bus from the Pisa airport.
