In a maginificent position on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, offering far reaching views of the wooded valleys and countryside. The four cottages are converted 18th century stone farm buildings. Great care has been taken in creating each one to blend in with the original features with all the modern conveniences you would expect. Still boasting timbered ceilings and stone walls, each cottage has a well equipped kitchen, gas fired heating, electricity for cooking and entertainment. There is a colour tv with freeview, DVD player, CD/radio and a microwave in each cottage, along with an iron and ironing board and hairdryer. All bed linen, together with towels and tea towels provided. All cottages are non-smoking. 3,4 and 7 night breaks available all year. Our full weeks commence Friday or Monday in main season but we can be flexible in winter.

Comfortable homely cottage

Am really happy to know that you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to welcome you again in the future!
Lovely retreat after busy days out
It was lovely to get back to the cottage after busy days out from York to Whitby. If only we'd had more time! There were many thoughtful details including information for where to find things (like supermarkets), and toys/drawing materials for the children. We enjoyed feeding the chickens and watching the alpacas. The only thing I did not like was the low energy light bulbs, but I have a problem with these everywhere.
Lovely short break
Stayed in Kirkdale cottage for 3 nights. Lovely place with lots of character. Very clean and comfortable. Beautiful views over looking the countryside. Good base for visiting the surrounding area. Would definitely recommend and will be returning.
Lovely peaceful cottage
Great location just outside Helmsley with lovely views over the countryside. My children loved being able to play on the large grassy area outside the cottages, made friends with other children staying there, fed the chickens, collected eggs and enjoyed watching the alpacas. The cottage was clean and, whilst fairly small, had everything you needed. My only reservation would be that it is very dark (we had the corner cottage) due to the thick stone walls and fairly small windows. The decor could also be a bit brighter - maybe with some brighter/local pictures on the walls, brighter curtains etc. However, it was comfortable, quiet, clean and a lemon drizzle cake had been left for us on our arrival (it didn't last long!). I would highly recommend the cottages.
Comfortable, well kept and beautiful. Exactly what we had been looking for. The owners had even left us some delicious home made brownies as a welcome.
Lovely location - just what we were looking for.
We were looking for a peaceful long weekend for the three of us, including our disabled son. Overall the cottage was great - it had all the facilities that we needed, was warm and quiet; we hardly heard anything of the other guests staying there. The ginger snap biscuits were a welcome surprise on arrival!
We visited Scarborough, Whitby and York - all easily accessible with some stunning drives over the Moors and would happily go back to explore everything else that is around.
The dedicated disabled parking made life much easier for someone with limited mobility and the cottage was fairly easy for our son to get around. The stairs in the cottage were quite easy for him but bathing was more of a challenge. The controls to the shower aren't reachable unless you actually stand in the bath - not great if you're clothed and trying to help someone else.
Overall though a great location and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a base ot explore all that North Yorks has to offer.
Am very happy to know that you enjoyed your stay with us and would happily come back to explore more of what North Yorkshire has to offer. We would love to have you back, and I would suggest a different cottage in order that it is easier for your son regarding the shower. Bilsdale is actually the only cottage with a bath with a shower over. Ryedale cottage is on one level and is having a large walk-in shower fitted next week which would probably suit you better. Hope to see you again soon, and thank you for a lovely review.
Coast/Beach: Beaches can be found approx. 30 miles away on the east coast, including Whitby, Scarborough, etc. Distances: Our cottages stand in the peaceful hamlet of Sproxton, just over one mile from the ever popular market town of Helmsley. Some of the country's top attractions are right on your doorstep. Including York (cobbled streets, quaint shops, Minster and Viking Centre), Rievaulx Abbey, Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall and Ryedale Folk Museum. Nearby Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo and the famous North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway are favourites with children and adults alike. All within thirty mins.
