We had a great 4 night stay at Sproxton Hall Cottages. The cottage was clean and cosy with lovely views. The only thing I struggled with was the small kitchen. We'd come straight from a weeks stay in Whitby and had a lot of stuff with us that I couldn't store in the cupboards so just had to leave them in bags under the stairs area. Wasn't really a problem though. My two daughters loved it as they could play safely outside with their kites and me and my husband could sit on the picnic benches with a coffee - lovely! We walked from the cottage into Helmsley which was great, leaving the car behind for a change. The route/map is in the cottage for guests to use which is a really good idea as we wouldn't have realised we could do that without the map. I would also recommend the walk from Helmsley to Rievaulx Abbey.
Nice little cottages. We were staying in Riccal. The double room small, but large wardrobe and chest of drawers in twin room so we could put things in there. The only thing is it advertises Wifi on Owners direct. But it doesn't work, also the cottage next door has a hub and that didn't work. The only way to get it is sit outside the owners door!. Helmsley is a great town and there are lots of places and pubs nearby to visit and eat out
Had a really lovely stay at Riccal Dale. Cottage was clean and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. Owners were available if needed. The views were beautiful and we were able to sit outside taking it all in with a glass of wine as we were very lucky with the weather.
We will definitely recommend it to friends and family and we hope to return again ourselves..
Our stay at this charming cottage was a last minute decision but the owners were si kind and helpful. We were charned by our cottage and delightewith the fresh scones and cream owner had made. Cottage is only a 2 mile walk from Helmsley across fields and the location was peaceful and bear a farm.
cottage was impeccably clean and nicely furnished, very comfortable
enjoyed feeding the chickens and they have pigs and sheep too
cant wait to return
Picturesque in a quiet location. Good base for walking. Cottage was Clean and tidy but quite small. There were only 3 in our party which was a good job as there were only 3 comfortable seats in the lounge area. Convenient for Helmsley. Surprised no one stopped by to check all was OK. Could benefit from wifi. Overall a pleasant stay.
Beaches can be found approx. 30 miles away on the east coast, including Whitby, Scarborough, etc.
Our cottages stand in the peaceful hamlet of Sproxton, just over one mile from the ever popular market town of Helmsley. Some of the country's top attractions are right on your doorstep. Including York (cobbled streets, quaint shops, Minster and Viking Centre), Rievaulx Abbey, Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall and Ryedale Folk Museum. Nearby Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo and the famous North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway are favourites with children and adults alike. All within thirty mins.
Just over one mile from the ever popular market town of Helmsley. On the banks of the River Rye, Helmsley is reputed to be one of Yorkshire's most popular market towns, offering shops, delhis, restaurants, pubs and cafes. It is a gathering point for walkers starting the Cleveland and Ebor Way. Sproxton Hall Cottages are in fact situated on the Ebor Way.
We have three alpacas at Sproxton, Hercules, Horatio and Heathcliffe.
