Set in a private lane in one of Cornwall's most beautiful locations on the Helford River, Querle is a recently renovated detached 3 bedroomed cottage. Facing West overlooking Port Navas Creek, its 2 acres of garden, orchard, woodland and foreshore enjoy a sunny and tranquil setting. With a private jetty, out haul and mooring, it is ideal for sailing, kayaking, boating, fishing, crabbing, or late BBQ at sunset. A 3 man Canoe, and a Single and a Double Kayak are included. A Paddle Board may be available by arrangement. Golf, tennis, swimming pool and Spa are five minutes up the lane at Budock Vean Hotel. Two of Cornwall's internationally renowned gardens (Trebah and Glendurgan) are 15 minutes walk. The South West Coastal Path is close by, as are numerous beaches, and coves. Pets are welcomed at owners' discretion.
We have been sailing the Helford River and enjoying family holidays here for over twenty years, based at own cottage in the area.
Jonathan Martin Thornton purchased this cottage in 2009
Querle cottage was just superb, thank you for letting us stay in April. Although we have visited this area many times the views were unsurpassed and the cottage well appointed and cosy.
We enjoyed use of the paddle board, kayak & canoes on the estuary. Lovely walk to the shore through woodland. Very handy location for good pubs with good food!
We had a wonderful week at Querle. The gardens down to the river are stunning. The river is so peaceful and quiet. The view from the house is stunning, the house was spacious, clean and had all we needed - not that we spent much time there as the area is so beautiful. Trebah Gardens are so close and are incredibly beautiful. We arranged for an Asda food drop, we didn't have a car and we didn't need one. There are buses to Falmouth from a bus stop not too far away and of course there are the kayaks to get around in. Lovely family holiday - thank you.
Querle is ideally situated and being a large house its very spacious. We had everything we needed of a holiday home and more. Our son loved exploring the gardens and we kayaked up the creeks. Lovely walks from the property round to Port Navas and to the local garden Trebah. We have recommended it to family and friends. Visit the Shipwrights in Helford for great atmosphere.
Just came back from a week staying at Querle. The house was so welcoming and really felt like a home away from home. Loved the walk down to the bottom of the garden and the river. Great for BBQs. Great property for dogs, my lab loved it, especially the easy access to water. Going out on paddle board every day was a definite highlight.
The surrounding area is just so beautiful. I would highly recommend Trebah Gardens and eating at Trengilly Wartha Inn.
Thanks Jonathan and Rosemary! Will definitely be back to stay at Querle again.
On booking it looked good, but rarely do expectations get blown away! We expected good, we got fantastic! Stunning views, lovely private location, great garden to front and steep zigzag wooded path to rear leading to private jetty and foreshore. The house has a lovely view from just about every window, but none better than the lounge with it's comfy lookout chairs behind a grand picture window looking over the decking towards the river. The sunsets, every night were beautiful, we were so lucky with the weather. The house was spotless, well appointed and very comfortable with plenty of space for the four of us and one very happy dog. Many thanks for renting us your lovely home, we will definitely be back! The Millers, Easter 2015
I have used Owners Direct for booking before, and have found their information and the reviews of their properties to be reliably on the mark. So, when I was seeking a place in Cornwall and the name "Querle" popped up, I was reasonably assured it would 'deliver'. Well, it delivered - in spades!
It was beautiful. The house had everything that one could possibly wish for in a holiday home. It was secluded yet easy to find and reach: it was clean, bright and beautifully appointed: the view from its expansive living room window looked down over the Helford river and was stunning: access to Falmouth, to the local pubs and restaurants, and to the wider aspects of Cornwall was simple and easy ... especially for two Australian couples who were not fully used to the lanes and byways of country England. The rambling walk down through its garden to the jetty and beach below was beautiful - and my only regret was that we were restricted by our own schedule to leave our visit to late in October by which time it was getting a bit sharp in the evenings to really enjoy the outdoor barbecue and eating areas - areas that would undoubtedly appeal in warmer evenings in mid summer. However, with a book, a glass of wine and its' sink-into couches and lounge chairs, and Querle was heaven-on-a-stick.
For any who wish to venture to the west of the west country, Querle undoubtedly will please and charm. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It was true value for money, and I only wish we lived closer so that we could make it a more regular destination.
Our special thanks to Jonathon, whose professionalism and ease of contact made the booking process a breeze.
The Helford River has many small beaches between the property and the open sea (about half a mile by water). These are accessible by car and/or walking in five to twenty minutes. Surf beaches are fifteen minutes drive away.
The nearest airport is Newquay ( 45 minutes), though train service from London is frequent. (5 hours ). Given the vast number of local and regional attractions, a car is recommended.
