Sitting in the foothills of Croagh Patrick and overlooking Clew bay, Gortmore is a 3 bedroom detached bungalow with fabulous views in every direction. Completed in 1999 the bungalow is modern, well planned, bright, airy and spacious. Sitting on its own site it is not overlooked and has direct access to the main Westport-Loiusburgh road. The property is located in Murrisk village which is 6 kms from Westport, a town identified by the Irish Times in 2012 as "the best place to live in Ireland". Our guests have been families looking for safe friendly accommodation, active walkers, golfers, fishermen, cyclists, and artists as well as those simply looking for peace, tranquil views and relaxation.

About Mary Clark
I designed and built Gortmore in 1999 and try to visit as much as possible as I have strong family ties in Murrisk and love the countryside but I live in Leeds for most of the year.
Mary Clark purchased this Bungalow in 1999
Why Mary Clark chose County Mayo
My family come from Murrisk and although I was brought up in Northern Ireland, I find County Mayo such a beautiful county. I chose the site because of the wonderful views over Clew Bay from the Living Room, bedroom and kitchen. The dining room has a great view of the pilgrimage mountain, Croagh Patrick. The bungalow was designed to be very light and airy. It is just off the main Westport- Lousisburgh Road so no-one has difficuly finding it. At the same time it is completely private on its own elevated site.
What makes this Bungalow unique
All my visitors are very impressed with the views and with the kitchen. Sometimes they arrive at night and waken up to a complete mirror imagine reflection of nearby Murrisknabol in Clew Bay. On the practical side the kitchen has every modern convenience and it is spacious so that on a big occasion several people can cook at once. The living room is really the quiet room, but does contain the modern TV with Free Sat. Wireless Internet is the most recent addition enabling me to keep in touch with family back in Leeds.

Lovely clean & spacious cottage with wonderful views of Clew Bay & Croagh Patrick.
The cottage is in a great location for touring / walking in a wonderful part of Mayo.
Lovely home with fantastic views over Clew Bay.
This lovely home has fantastic views over Clew Bay and is conveniently located for Westport and the coast of Mayo. The main bedroom, sitting room and kitchen were spacious and the house had been recently decorated. However, I would have given it 5 stars if it had been cleaner on our arrival which was an unexpected disappointment. The kitchen sink, fridge and counter tops were dirty and one of the twin room beds had animal hairs all over it, so we had to change the sheets ourselves plus there were dirty towels in the bathroom. It looked like the cleaner had left without finishing the job but once we had spent time cleaning it ourselves, it was a lovely place to stay!
Hi I am sorry you were disappointed in any way with my bungalow. Yes, it has been completely redecorated in March this year.
My cat has clearly sneaked into one of the unused bedrooms when I was there over Easter! I should have spotted that. So my sincere apologies for that. My cleaner says the hand towel in the bathroom may have been one of the older , but still clean, towels. There is a large supply of large fluffy new freshly laundered towels for personal use. And we think the kitchen was well cleaned but nonetheless apologise for any issues you have had with it. Thanks for review.
Lovely Bungalow with Terrific Views. Thank You Mary we had a lovely time and Tom was an added bonus, Very charming, helpful and polite.
Even though my wife has very poor sight she felt very safe and relaxed, PS: She loves your kitchen.
Thanks so much Barrie. I am always pleased to hear my guests have enjoyed their visit. Mary
We (2 adults + 2 teenagers) spent a week in Gortmore in August 2014 and all of us loved it.
The bungalow was so comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Our teenagers were particularly delighted with the Wi-Fi! There were magnificent views in all directions that with the ever-changing light continuously delighted and surprised us.
The location was excellent for discovering Mayo and Connemara, especially Clew Bay, Croagh Patrick and Achill Island. And the beautiful town of Westport is only a 15 minute drive away.
All four of us would have been happy to have had longer here, a week was too short!
I cannot recommend this lovely house highly enough.
Just Like Home
I have been visiting the bungalow in Murrisk since 2001, first with my mum, then with my friend and also with my sister. Since retiring I have returned several times each year. It's just like coming home. The bungalow is comfortable and we find everything we need for a relaxing break.. The beds (all single) are very comfortable and the excellent heating makes the bungalow cosy in all weathers. We've been there in all kinds of weather at all times of the year. For sunny days some outdoor furniture would be nice.
The views from the kitchen are truly amazing, changing with the weather and the passing clouds. I've never encountered such a view!
Also, out the back is a superb view of Croagh Patrick.
The village of Murrisk is very handy for daily trips to Westport which is a great town for shopping and eating out. We love McCormack's for coffee but there's a huge choice.
We always go to Connemara for a day - via Louisbourg and on to Leenaun and Clifden. The views are best driving from this direction. Trips can be made to Renvile, Letterfrack, the Famine Loop etc. These are places with great character and wonderful scenery. Walking on nearby Bertra beach and Carrowmore (turn right at Louisbourgh crossroads and right again after about half a mile) are a must. For a woodland walk try nearby Brackloon. There's good information at the Tourist Info shop in Westport. Cyclists are very well catered for in the area.
A day spent walking on Clare Island is worthwhile and of course Achill Island is worth the drive.
By now you'll realise I love the place and at times when we couldn't get into Mary's we went to other houses and apartments. None of these attracted us as much. I think it must be the house itself, the care shown by Tom who checks to see we are okay and the fantastic Irish scenery. You'll not regret choosing Mary's bungalow! I'd highly recommend it.
