Dacre Garth is a well-equipped Barn Conversion in the heart of Cumbria comfortably sleeping 8. The detached barn has been awarded a ‘Gold’ award and ‘Families Welcome’ rating for the past 7 years. The Barn is particularly suited for family use with 4 bedrooms, a ‘secret mouse hole’, play room and snug, in addition to the main family rooms.It is located in the centre of the village of Stainton on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Just 5 minutes from the M6 and A66, travelling to all parts of Cumbria and the Pennines is easy. Ullswater is only a 5 minute drive South and Keswick, a 15 minute drive to the West. Changeover days are Fri & Mon (minimum stay 3 nights) - We are a No-smoking & pet-free property

Ullswater, one of the beautiful quieter lakes of the Park, is only a 5 minute drive. Similarly Penrith, a small market town with the full range of shops, gift shops, restaurants and takeaways is 10 minutes drive; Keswick, a fifteen minute drive to the West

Further Details:

Dacre Garth lies in the heart of Cumbria within the small friendly village of Stainton. The Village boasts excellent food at the King’s Arms Public house and the Brantwood Hotel.

Within a short walk is the renowned Greystone House Farm, stocking local and organic produce ranging from pasta and preserves, to fresh bread, milk, vegetables and its own butchery. The tea-rooms above the farm-shop are also highly recommended for lunch or an afternoon snack.

The village also has a children’s play park and recreation area just 5 minutes’ stroll from the Barn

Notes on accommodation: The Barn has been awarded a 'Families Welcome' rating; accordingly we offer a travel cot, stair gates, pushchair, high chair, and baby monitor if required. Free WiFi is now available in the Barn. The Barn is a no-smoking and pet-free property. Outside: Outside, the Barn has an enclosed cottage-style garden with a lawn and a patio area with a charcoal BBQ for your use. There is off-road parking for 2 cars but ample parking is available very close by. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and Linen are included Other: A Snug adjoins the lounge and offers more sofas, a second TV, DVD and Video player, along with selection of books and a computer games console. Upstairs, a children's play-loft with a selection of toys can be accessed via the secret ‘Mousehole’! Weekly lets begin on a Fri / Mon for 7nts. Short breaks are available for 3nts beginning on a Fri, or 4nts beginning on a Mon.

Lovely barn conversion, ideal for families and groups of friends

We enjoyed a family get together in this very spacious barn conversion. Good pub right next door and Northen Lakes easily accessible. Lovely sunny corner at the front to have breakfast outside and a little garden area at the back as well.

Overall very good. We all enjoyed our stay kids really love mousehole and play loft.

Just an observation need more toilet tissue and maybe spare bathroom mats as they were all getting soggy by the end of our stay. Also there are areas of the cottage that could benefit from cleaning windows were dusty and covered in webs (by kitchen) . But it didn't not disturb our stay and we found everything we need for our stay. Thank you would recommend it for others.

Great house in an excellent location

We had a great stay at Dacre Garth with extended family over Easter.

The house is in a fantastic location, it's spacious and well equipped. The children loved it as much as the adults. The owners were helpful and easy to contact.

The only negative I would say is that there's only one shower, which is in the en suite. For the number of guests it would be much better to have a proper shower in the main bathroom also.

Overall a great stay - I would recommend and we'd definitely stay again.

Not enough showers or toilets. Very cold, thin duvets, cooker knobs didn't have any markings

I have rented loads of cottages although it's spacious it needed more attention to detail . We didn't know the temperature of the oven. There wasn't any spare blankets. One very small en suite and a basic over head shower/bath. Even the hand soap was half used. A new one is more hygienic. Lots of space for kids though a toddler just walking could find it quite tricky. It is a very clean cottage, well equipped kitchen and loads of information about the local area.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review, we are sorry that you found the Barn cold - we do leave heating control to our guests' preference and it has always been found to be very responsive. There are additional duvets under the beds, but we will ensure these are more clearly signposted for future guests. Thank you for letting us know about the oven controls, we will get this sorted immediately. Beautiful, spacious cottage!

On arrival we received a complimentary pack of treats, which gave our holiday a very good start. The cottage was much more spacious than expected for 8 people we had lots of space and enjoyed hanging out in the communal areas. Next to the cottage is a pub wnich does delicious home-made food. Also down the road is a restaurant which does amazing food too! My friends and I explored the waterfalls near Ullswater which I would highly recommend doing. Overall we had a great time at this cottage in a good location and lots of lovely places to eat. Would definitely return!

Prices, which include lines, towels, utilities and a starter supply of firewood, vary depending on season.

Typically, Off-peak prices begin at £670/wk, £465 for a short break. Peak rates begin at £1200/wk, £835 for a short break.
