About Christine Fletcher

I was introduced to holidays in Pembrokeshire over 40 years ago and still get the most wonderful delight in all that it has to offer. Our house in Dale is an excellent base from which to explore and walk on the coastal path to enjoy the spectacular scenery.

Christine Fletcher purchased this house in 2000

Why Christine Fletcher chose Wales

We have always spent a lot of time in Pembrokeshire, particularly around Dale and Marloes.

We love the remoteness and beauty of the beaches, and the scenery as you walk along the coastal path. Photography and art work are wonderful pastimes in this area, along with sailing, surfing and windsurfing.

What makes this house unique

Gateholm is a very comfortable and conveniently placed property with the benefit of an en-suite, family bathroom and shower room.

It is fully double glazed, well insulated, and has character and warmth.

The rear garden and wooded bank attract a beautiful collection of birds. Skomer Island which is renowned for the birds is reached by a local boat, bookable in Dale.

Windsurfing, Surfing and Sailing are all on hand, as is walking on the Pembrokeshire coastal path.

Great property, great location

Left on Jul 27, 2016 for a stay in Jul 2016

We had a very enjoyable stay. The location of the property was great for the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. The house was very well equipped, well cared for and spotless. We were left a welcoming note and very acceptable gifts of wine and chocolates. Responses to my questions to Chris were prompt and helpful. The best property we have stayed at over our years of walking long distance paths.

Lovely house in great location

  • 5 of 5

The house was in a beautiful place; two minutes from the harbour bay in a quiet road and only 15 minutes walk up to Westdale Beach.which was accessible down a path and had lovely views from the cliff top too.

We found the house really comfortable and warm; we all loved the views from the house and the garden was very attractive with shrubs and a wood at the top.Everything was well maintained and clean.

We visited Marloes beach and village nearby, (where there is a little store and good cafe). Just near there is Martin's Haven where seals were spotted; also up the cliff top there are amazing views over three bays where even more seals were spotted on the rocks. Up St Brides Bay a few miles are Broad Haven, Nolton Haven and Newgale all beautiful and worth a visit.

The Griffin Inn was visited once and there was good fish to be had there. The Moorings looked good but we didn't have time to go there.

We all loved the bay just out of Dale about a mile where there were many waders at low tide. It was quiet and we took photos and did drawings there as well.

Chris was very helpful and left us chocolates and a bottle of wine as a welcome. We were sorry not to meet her but she was easy to contact if necessary. I would recommend the house and area to friends and family as we enjoyed it very much indeed.

One thing we would have liked was a tumble dryer in the utility room, as one morning we all got drenched whilst out walking. In the summer it would be no problem as there is a garden clothes dryer and also a collapsible rack.Only a small moan, sorry !

It is a very good idea to get the shopping delivered from Tesco's when you first arrive arrive and we were pleased we did.

Thank you Chris for a really pleasant stay.

Yet another relaxing long weekend in this property. A warm, cosy, comfortable superbly equipped house. Beach 200 yards away and, more importantly, the superb Griffin Inn with its wonderful foood 200 yards too!

Nothing is too much trouble for the owners, Chris and Phil. Thoroughly recommend this property!

Lovely spacious house, with everything you need. Positioned close to beach and coastal paths.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this property in Dale in September 2016. Family of 7 adults. The house was very spacious with 2 bathrooms and an additional shower room. Lovely spacious kitchen/dining room for meals together.

The house is positioned close to the coastal path, you can walk straight from the house around the coastal path in a circular walk back to Dale across the fields, which is a nice walk. Lots of leaflets and information at the house to plan your trips. Sea fishing available as well as crabbing off the pontoon. We had trips to Skomer island, St. David"s and Pembroke Castle ,all great days out. The local Griffin pub serves great beer and food, but best to book as it was always busy. You can also buy prepared lobster and crab from lots of local places.

Over all a lovely relaxing break but plenty to do if the weather is OK.

We had a big Tesco delivery the evening we arrived, which was a good plan as not a lot of grocery stores close by. Huge Tesco at Haverfordwest though.

The owners were very kind leaving wine and chocolate for us!

We would definitely recommend this property and it is well positioned to explore the area from St. David's to Pembroke.

Superbly equipped "home from home" great location

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 5 with two daughters aged 6 & 10 and my Mum. We all loved the property, the décor was lovely (gave us some ideas for our home!) there were four bedrooms - so plenty of space for 5 of us!

Have stayed in many holiday cottage over the last decade, this is the first time I have been inspired enough to leave a full review.

Most holiday homes have just enough plates and cups for the number of people - not here- there must have been 40each of plates, cups & glasses, which means that you could load the dishwasher & use each night instead of having to wash up after every meal !

They have some toys and games for the children and a Ping-Pong table that you can put up in the back patio. There is a BBQ. The place is spotlessly clean. The bedrooms are well equipped with plenty of storage and mirrors just like you would expect at home! There are 3 thermostatic showers, 2 upstairs over-bath and one downstairs as a walk-in cubicle; one day we got back from the beach late and all needed showers to rush out for a dinner booking, I was really pleased to find that when all 3 showers were being run at the same time the water still came out plenty hot and fast enough...that is the first private property I have ever stayed in where that has happened, normally you flush the loo downstairs and the shower upstairs reduces to a dribble, but not at Gateholm! My only reservation about giving an awesome review is that everyone else will book it then we will struggle to get in so we already booked our holiday for a week next year there before placing this review!

We contacted the owners a couple of times whilst there to ask some questions and they always got back promptly and were very helpful.

As for Dale itself and the property location; really a 1 minute walk to the sea-front which has a calm inlet on Dale beach and a lot of boating/sailing/kayaking going on. Amazing pontoon at the front for mooring boats & also crabbing - our girls caught over 50 crabs in less than an hour - great fun! You can hire boats and arrange lessons for sailing etc in the local boat shop adjacent to the beach. Dale beach is very calm but not the sandiest. There are many amazing beaches within walking distance - more sandy with waves to rival Cornwall if you enjoy body-boarding.

The pub in Dale (Griffin) does great food, wine and ale and is on the seafront. Dale is like a Cornwall seafront village but without thousands of people & the Pembrokshire coast path is awesome. Enjoy!!!

Gateholm lived up to its description of the property when the booking was made. We were not disappointed in any way. The house was very well furnished and thoroughly clean when we checked in. Everything that we needed was provided, which made for a very comfortable stay. Well recommended.
