We decided to give up our jobs and move to France to open some Gites and live the life. When our two boys went to university we decided the time was right to make the move. Our project included a place where people with reduce mobility will find a safe haven as Marie has a friend who had a stroke at a very early age which left her paralysed down one side. After this she found it difficult to go on holiday with her family so we were keen to make our gites accessible to people with reduced mobility.
When you book with us we exchange contract to confirm your booking before you send us your payment. Merci......
phil hatswell purchased this farmhouse in 2010
Having travelled around France looking for a place where we would like to live, we eventually came across the Vosges. Little known to the French, let alone the rest of the world, we found it entrancing. Its natural beauty and continental climate giving each season a unique feel. With skiing in the winter and outdoor pursuits in the summer it is a perfect area to be.Having decided on the region we started the house hunting in earnest. We were looking for a typical farm for renovation ('dans son jus' as the Vogiens say) ideally with outbuildings and a few acres. Having seen many farms, when we drove into the courtyard of the farm in Champdray we knew it was the one for us. Further investigation confirmed our love for the building and its barns.
Easily accessible, our gites are open all year in the village of Champdray on a plateau on the edge of the Ballons des Vosges National Park. In an exceptional location nestled in the landscape, you have a particularly healthy environment throughout the year.
At the heart of an authentic late 18th century Vosgien farm the, tastefully renovated with passion and in perfect harmony with nature, come and enjoy the privacy and comfort to relax.
On a plot of 3 acres, where flora and fauna abound, they are ideally located. Calm and tranquil, yet within easy reach of the mountains for walking, cycling and skiing.
Very clean and comfortable gite, with many period features incorporated into the new. Situated on a plateau giving good views of the mountains but very open and with wonderful sunsets, the clear night skies filled with stars. We were made very welcome and the owners could not have been more helpful with suggestions for visits and places to see. Lots of outdoor activities in the area, the swimming pool and sauna adding relaxation after an energetic day. I will be recommending this gite to friends and family.
these Gite are of the highest standard and the pool area is quite wonderful Phill & Marie are excellent host's and can't do enough for you they cooked us a glorious meal on our last day which was no mean feet as there were 10 in our party. The scenery around is beautiful I can not recommend this place highly enough Brian & Sheila
An absolute gem of a place to stay if you are planning a visit to the Vosges, the owners Phil and Marie made us all feel very welcome and on our arrival even went to the trouble of taking us to the local supermarket in their car. The two meals that we had during our stay were fantastic and very well prepared with alot of the ingredients coming from the garden. I really cannot speak highly enough about the accommodation, rooms were tastefully decorated and very clean, with all rooms being en suite. The surrounding countryside and scenery in this area is outstanding, I would recommend this property to anyone.
we were a party of nine travelling on motorbikes, the property suited us all very well with plenty of room and a great location to explore the area. it was very clean and well presented and our hosts did all they could to make our stay as perfect as possible. The meal on arrival was welcome after a long day travelling so a big thank you to Phil and Marie for a lovely holiday.
Lovely property in a rural setting. Very spacious inside and set in large grounds, easy to spend time just relaxing with pool, sauna, table tennis, boules etc.
Phil and Marie are good hosts and live on site - very handy when your French is not up to phone calls for various bookings!
The town of Gerardmer is about 15 mins away and has a range of activities, sailing, kayaking, biking, restaurants etc.
We visited with Ryanair flights to Basel and a couple of hours car journey, within easy reach via Eurotunnel also.
Last week we stayed in Champdray with 12 adults and 11 children (0-4 yrs old). We loved the house, nicely decorated by Marie and Philip and the garden was a perfect playground for the kids. Philip and Marie were very kind and helpfull! if you want extra free time, you can order meals. The food was delicious. Overall, a perfect place! We will come back Next year.
