The Old Coach House
Water Meadows, Old Coach House
About Mark Butcher
Hi I'm Mark, my wife Karen and I have lived in Maiden Newton since 2004 running a small architectural practice from home. We enjoy walking with our dog in this beautiful part of Dorset, motorbiking around the quite country lanes and running our two holiday cottages.
Mark Butcher purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Mark Butcher chose Maiden Newton
Maiden Newton is in the middle of West Dorset's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), surrounded by some of England’s most picturesque countryside. Despite such a beautiful location Maiden Newton is a genuine working rural village and is not overrun with tourist in the summer months like many of our more better know neighbours. We have a friendly local pub, French restaurant, fish and chip shop, railway station and everything else you might need in the village.
What makes this Cottage unique
We are on the edge of the village enjoying space and privacy whilst only 5 minutes walk from the local shop, pub and railway station.

A little piece of paradise
My second visit and they've actually managed to improve the cottage (which I didn't think possible). Super dog friendly from spare leads and bowls, to throws for the furniture and a jar of dog treats. The cottage is well equipped and immaculately clean - you wouldn't know dogs had ever been there before. 100 yards in either direction and you can be on public footpaths through the water meadows. Wonderful hot tub to relax in after a walk and then a log burner to curl up by. A walk over the Wessex Ridgeway to Sydling St. Nicholas is worth the effort for lunch at The Greyhound; excellent food and also very dog friendly (despite both human and dogs being very muddy). Already planning my next trip!

The Chalk and Cheese public house in Maiden Newton is five minutes’ walk and serves excellent pub food. The petit Canard French restaurant opposite the pub is great for fine dining, and there is a Fish & Chip take away in the village. There are many pubs within a few miles drive serving everything from basic pub grub to locally produced gastronomic delights.
There are a huge range of activities available in the area, walking, horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, go carting, diving, sailing, fishing to name but a few.
