4 Buckley is a cosy 200 year old stone cottage in an idyllic spot within a few minutes walk of Salcombe along the creek.
A peaceful place to get away from it all.
Terraced hidden garden and summerhouse.
Our family has now had connections with Salcombe for four generations. I started first with childhood holidays in a caravan, next with our parents buying and renovating the cottage and then our uncle and parents retiring here in the 80’s and 90’s. After university and a few years travelling I was lucky enough to start work near Dartmouth in 2001 and have been based here ever since. Now I am bringing up my growing family entirely in this idyllic area.
Liz Tier purchased this cottage in 1980
It was my mother's dream to own a property in Salcombe after she and her brother had spent many summers here on and off the water. Finally in the late 70's my parent's started seriously looking at cottages and ended up choosing a gem tucked away in Lower Batson that they spent every minute renovating for a few years before it became our second home in more ways than one.
4 Buckley is a 200 year old stone cottage in the hamlet of Lower Batson, a peaceful hamlet where you can get away from it all, or enjoy the bustle of Salcombe a few minutes walk away along the flat (yes, really!) road along the creek side.
We have enjoyed our stay in your unusual cottage - lovely view from the living room - especially as we live in a bungalow. We have taken some lovely walks with the dog and enjoyed the "Round Robin" from Dartmouth.
Good weather - with just a few showers.
Lovely food - I do not cook on holiday!!
Very relaxing week,

Around Salcombe, there is the option of North and South Sands beaches on the Salcombe side, which would best be reached by a short drive or a leisurely stroll of a couple of miles. Alternatively you can walk into Salcombe centre (approximately a mile) and catch the ferry either to East Portlemouth or South Sands.
Many other South Hams beaches are within a short drive
Batson is some way off public transport routes, so the use of a car would be recommended. Totnes train station is approximately 18 miles away and buses are infrequent, so a taxi would be advised. Exeter airport is about 55 miles away. The Plymouth ferry port to France is about 25 miles.
Batson is less than half a mile to the edge of Salcombe along a flat road. To the town centre is about a mile where you will find shops, restaurants, laundy and other amenities. The nearest market town is Kingsbridge, about 5 miles away, with supermarkets and a wider range of services. The nearest cities, Plymouth and Exeter, are about an hours drive away.
Most of the South Hams (stretching from the south of Dartmoor, to Plymouth on one side and Totnes on the other) is within an hours drive.
Salcombe is an ideal place for all sorts of holidays, from the more obvious ones that characterise the area of sailing, beaches and walking, to quiet retreats and other relaxing breaks.
In all seasons it has something to offer, be it the buzz of the summer or the quiet and beauty of the winter.
