Kevan Halson is a professional photographer who decided to settle in tuscany, italy 7 years ago. Along with his brother Richard they restored the old farmhouse in the village of Granaiola, Bagni di Lucca and have now opened up part of it for rent. The house and farm are a passion much like the art and photography which adorn the house. Kevan has recently opened a Photography gallery at the foot of the hill.
Kevan Halson purchased this House in 2006
Why Kevan Halson chose Granaiola
When our guests see the views from the house they understand completely why we bought this house. The area is an ideal place to relax and create and the food is to die for. The region is famous for its Olive oil, cheese, wine and the landscape can only be described as breathtaking. The beautiful city of Lucca is half an hour away with some fantastic shops and busy streets. and if you need a bigger place there is always Florence or Pisa with their big city life. Whatever you want is easily accessible here. Beach, town, city, history, wildlife, mountains.
What makes this House unique
The property is the perfect place to relax. no traffic sounds, great wine and the best food. what more can you ask.

We felt privileged to stay in this mountain top retreat faithfully restored by the owner and filled with interesting photos and ceramics created by Kevan and his mother.
Set on three levels with most rooms overlooking the valley and surrounding mountains we never tired of the scene which constantly changed depending on the weather and time of day.
Kevan's handiwork extends to the shady terrace with sturdy wooden furniture and into the adjacent lofty kitchen where hand crafted cupboards made arty use of bark on the drawer fronts. The size and weight of kitchen/terrace facilities were challenging for this dumpy woman. The lack of a microwave and satellite TV were disappointing, but we could get wi-fi. The two flights of stairs in the house and winding track down to the house from the car park provided good exercise and we returned home pleased that we regularly rose to these challenges thereby working off the daily visits to ice cream haunts!
The bed was comfy with thoughtful and glamorous mosquito nets and the shower, though efficient, was reminiscent of those in the school gym during the 1950's.
The drive up to the accommodation was steep and winding then plateaued to reveal houses, a very good restaurant and Kevan's welcome.
The ancient walled city of Lucca and a trip to the seaside made for variety until we found what we'd really hoped for: a trail of stunning old villas and their spacious gardens. We didn't have time to visit them all but were enchanted by those we did. We enjoyed wall paintings, statues, lakes, fountains, grottos and enough surprises and vistas to please even the most critical garden designer.
We enjoyed our stay. Thank you Kevan.
