Lovely little character cottage

  • 4 of 5

We loved this little cottage. It's very well equipped, with everything you would need in a holiday home. The quirky bath was a delight,

The location was wonderful with a lovely friendly pub just up the road, and most of Cornwall within an hours drive, so perfect as a base. Being in the country, mobile connectivity is poor, but that's a small price for such a lovely holiday cottage.

Great holiday

  • 5 of 5

Lovely dog friendly cottage. We had a fantastic week exploring this area of Cornwall and the cottage made a great base for us. The quirky layout of the cottage was great and we loved the bath "hidden" in the master bedroom. The cottage was very comfortable and clean and better equipped than we had first thought. We are definitely considering a holiday here again next year!

St Ewe is a tiny and compact traditional cornish village consisting of a few houses, village square, church and pub. St Ewe is situated in a rural setting, the village dating back to Norman times. Evidence of earlier settlement is indicated by the presence of a celtic cross (probably 9th century) which once stood near the centre of the village but was destroyed in 1873 by a farmer looking for buried treasure! Only the base of the cross survives. St Ewe Parish Church is of course dedicated to St Ewe, of whom little is known.

The church's tower and spire were added in the 14th century. The church is well worth a visit and features a Norman Font and a 15th century rood screen. Plenty of free parking in the centre of the village near the entrance to the church. A few minutes stroll from the church and village centre is the Crown Inn. The Inn is fairly large and has a bar with bar food, an open fire in the bar area and a resident parrot . Modestly priced and good bar food. The Inn also has a restaurant. St Ewe is about 6 miles from St austell & 3 miles from Mevagissey. Mevagissey is a picturesque and working fishing village dating from the 14th century where local fishermen still ply their trade. The village has a maze of streets with a large selection of craft and touristy shops and delightful eating places (Wreckers Inn, Wheel House Restaurant, The Moorings Tea Rooms and many more). Plenty of parking space with 3 large car parks just a few minutes stroll from the harbour and shops and there usually seems to be plenty of parking space, even during August. The picturesque harbour (in fact a double harbour) has a tiny adjacent beach area. Right on the harbourside is a free Aquarium, well worth a visit, which is especially interesting because it houses fish tanks displaying the fish available in the local waters (Dab, Bass, Edible Crab, Pollock, Whiting etc). On the other side of the harbour is a folk museum.
