The building now known as The Forge is one of the oldest buildings in the village. It was run as a blacksmith's workshop until about 1975 by Billy Clark, a well known local character and artist. Originally it was 3 separate workshops - a blacksmith's in what was once a 'one up-one down' cottage, a joiners in another two storey building and between them a single storey wheelwrights workshop. The central single storey building was extended to both left and right linking the three workshops. The anvil stands outside the front door and in the driveway is the stone on which the wooden wheels were secured to have their iron tyres fitted. It was in very poor condition when the previous owners purchased it in 1999. It has, since then, undergone a sympathetic conversion and renovation completed in September 2004.

Lovely quaint converted holiday house. Beautiful countryside.
A lovely house; clean, comfortable and well presented. All the amenities we would hope for, including a full 3 drawer freezer and plenty of cooking equipment. Good sized garden outside and right on the doorstep of some really lovely walks. The village is beautiful and sleepy. No shops in the village, but Youlgreave is 1 mile away which has some small convenience stores and pubs etc. The children's play park 20 metres from the house was great for our kids. We would definitely come back.
Hi Stephanie so glad you enjoyed your stay at The Forge we look forward to seeing you again.

Gorgeous property in breathtaking scenery
The forge is a fabulous spacious property and one we hopefully will visit again in the near future
A comfortable cottage in a quiet beautiful setting.
An attractive cottage with the kitchen at its heart which was good for our two generations family group even if the space in the cooking area was a bit congested. The beds were very comfortable. the heating worked well, though we struggled a bit with the wood burning stove even though we have one ourselves. There are plenty of toilets and the setting in a lovely old village near to lots of walks and other activities is great. We enjoyed ourselves.Thank you.
An Amazing Space
Hmmmm.....If I tell you all how great The Forge is, then next time I want to stay there it might not be available....but I want to make sure the homeowners gets the credit they deserve. Tough choice!
I have to admit that when I was looking for a place to rent I was a little apprehensive that The Forge looked small for seven people and a dog in the depths of winter. I needn't have worried. The photo's don't show how big the living areas are, and how well the whole space works for a large family.
The Forge is definitely on my favourites list!

Our second New Year Holiday - great location for walking and sharing time with friends and family. Hoping to do the same next New Year!
