Overview

About the property

Cottage in St. Ives, Cornwall, England - Footsteps From Beach, Famous Local Property, Tate Gallery Around The Corner

Home of the famous Artist and Mariner - whose work can be seen in the Tate Gallery. Recently refurbished to a high standard + with Alfred Wallis replica paintings. Featured in the 2005 BBC programme 'A Picture of Britain' with Johnathan Dimbleby. The house has a plaque to Alfred Wallis's memory on the front wall. It was to this cottage that he retired and after the death of his wife, painted for twenty years - apparently '...for company'. He was discovered by other famous St. Ives artists: Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth, Christoper Wood and Peter Lanyon. Located within the heart of St. Ives, footsteps from Porthmeor Surfing Beach. Sofa bed downstairs. The cottage is small and we would recommend the sofa bed to be used as a last resort, but, perfect for children.

About Toby Griffiths

My name is Toby Griffiths and I own Wallis Cottage. I have always had a fascination with the cottage from when I visited St.Ives when I was young boy and learning about the art that came from the town; Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth etc. I feel privileged to own this famous cottage and I felt it necessary to add Wallis replica paintings inside(painted by me), literally covering the walls, just like Wallis would have had.

I hope you enjoy your stay.

Fab little gem right in the heart

  • 5 of 5

On entering it had a very homely feel, very clean and every need catered for, even dishwasher tablets!! Very clean and well presented.Shower works a treat and the bedroom is quite spacious. Lounge/kitchen/dinner is just enough for us 3 but may be little bit of a squeeze if there was four adults. Tea room right opposite great breakfast Will definitely be returning I the future.

Shocking

  • 1 of 5

Very disappointed with this property, it looks perfect on the photos, but is very much in need of refurbishment, definitely not worth the price being charged?
