Recently refurbished to a very high standard using locally reclaimed wood in it's interior, this detached stone cottage is a rural delight. The split-level 1 bed cottage has an en suite wetroom upstairs where the bedroom opens on to a private decked balcony which leads to a new stunning outdoor spa with wood fired hot tub, sauna, summer house snug, hammock and fire pit. Downstairs is a modern, light and spacious living area with a wood burning fire and a modern fitted kitchen featuring all mod cons, dining area and lounge area with wall mounted flat screen TV and a leather sofa bed. We are in a peaceful rural location surrounded by wonderful countryside. As we are located close to the A30 there is easy access to the rest of Cornwall including its stunning coastline and also to Devon with its chocolate box villages.

About Tracey Souter

Having spent most of my adult life in Las Vegas learning all about the restaurant/hospitality industry i moved to London in 2005 where i met my wife and when we were lucky enough to have our daughter 2 years later we decided to leave the rat race behind and follow our dream. Tracey is a Westcountry girl so we returned to her roots and fell in love with the rugged countryside and stunning coastline of North Cornwall. We haven't looked back and feel blessed to be able to live in this magical part of the country. We have found the best possible area to fully indulge our passion, food !

Why Tracey Souter chose Launceston

The cottage sits adjacent to our home and in gardens of about 3/4 acre. We were drawn to this area for it's peaceful rural location but with easy access to amenities, beaches, rugged countryside walks and the ability to get to a bigger town if the need for retail therapy grabs you !

Bodmin Moor, steeped in history is right on our doorstep. We are also just off the A30 so the perfect location to explore further in to Cornwall or Devon, just across the border !

What makes this cottage unique

Food is our passion. We grow our own fruit/vegetables and have daily fresh eggs from local chickens. Cornwall provides us with the best seafood/free range meat in the country and we use this to the best of our ability to appeal to our customers in a diverse exciting manner. If you want to have a self catering vacation, that's fine, the kitchen is well equipped with all mod cons. You could choose bed and breakfast and we will prepare a continental or full English breakfast using the best locally sourced produce. Alternatively we can provide occasional catering. Just contact us beforehand to discuss. We are here to make your holiday memorable.

  • Description of sleeping capacity: Sleeps 2 adults plus 2 young children on sofabed Notes on bedrooms: The main bedroom has a solid oak double bed. The TV has a build in DVD. There is a sofa bed in the lounge area which can sleep up to 2 children. We can also set up a small childs bed in the bedroom area should it re required.

Notes on accommodation: Wifi is available. Outside: The bedroom door opens on to a private decked balcony with wooden table and chairs. There is also a BBQ and 2 recliners. From the balcony you have full use of the higher garden where we have extensive lawn, large vegetable plot and chicken run. The spa at the top of the garden has a wood fired hot tub, sauna, hammock, fire pit and meditation hut. Utility Room: you will find an iron/ironing board, hoover, hair dryer all at your disposal Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included. They are changed once a week. Additional can be provided on request.

A real gem

We stayed for 4 nights and thought how does Liberty Barn Cottage have so many 5 star reviews (100%) - we now know it is down to a combination of a spotlessly clean property with everything you would need, the most welcoming warm and friendly hosts in Mark and Tracey and some of the best food we have tasted cooked by Mark with desserts to match from Tracey.

Mark and Tracey cannot do enough to make sure your stay is perfect, even when we had a power cut yesterday Mark was straight over with head torches and a bottle of wine for us (we presumed drinking this helped us to see in the dark).

The property itself was perfect, we spent a cosy afternoon in front of the log burner watching a film from the extensive selection available. Although we did not use the hot tub, sauna or Summerhouse you could imagine in warmer weather how relaxing the facilities would be.

If you want to join the 5 Star Club then book a break at Liberty Barn Cottage (and make sure you arrange to have a Mark and Tracey cook as well) - you will not regret it.

Oh my god what a gem of a place and it goes without saying the amazing couple that made our honeymoon Marky &Tracey we will be forever grateful to you both memories we will treasure we will definitely return to the amazing cottage and  your amaze balls food you cooked for us thank you so much our secret hideaway in Cornwall love you Liberty Barn Marky and Tracey we will return especially to it's secret garden with the hot tub sauna and snug lots of love and so glad we have met you Carl and Carl xxx ❤

Stunningly peaceful retreat

As a couple going to celebrate my birthday, I think you'll have to go along way to beat this superb location, peacefully set, with privacy and indulgence a plenty. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our romantic weekend, we didn't really want to leave, with first rate service and hospitality from the host. Mark's food is restaurant quality and they help you enjoy your stay to the fullest. A truly wonderful experience recommended to anyone.

Wonderfully relaxing holiday

We had a fantastic time at Liberty Barn and we would like to thank Mark and Tracey for their wonderful hospitality. We would wholeheartedly recommend you try some of their home cooked it was absolutely gorgeous. The Spa was a well deserved relaxing retreat and was a fantastic way to unwind. The cottage was well equipped and was very comfortable. The welcome message in magnetic letters on the fridge was a nice touch. Cornwall is a beautiful county and Boscastle is a lovely little village if you’re looking for a lovely cream tea and for all Doc Martin fans, port Issac is just like the tv show.

Overall we really enjoyed our time here and look forward to our return.

WOW!

Liberty Barn is a very stylish, homely, cosy, comfy place. It has everything you could possibly need and more. You are sure of a very warm welcome from Mark and Tracey who cannot do enough for you. Mark cooked two evening meals and two breakfasts for us. His food is amazing. He will discuss menus with you and cook to your taste, whatever you may require. Tracey made us a beautiful lemon tart served with raspberries and clotted cream. Memorable.

Liberty Barn is well placed to travel in any direction to places of interest and the sea. Again, Mark and Tracey are happy to give you advice and ideas on where to go should you require some local knowledge

We cannot recommend this place enough for either a short break or something longer. Go!

Coast/Beach:

We are 23 miles from the nearest coastline which takes us about 30 mins to drive to. They really are worth it. Our nearest, Trebarwith Strand, is a wonderful dog friendly, family beach with coffee shops and a pub on the cliffs overlooking the beach and providing spectacular views !

Travel:

The nearest airports to us are Newquay (45 mins) or Exeter (1 hour). The nearest train stations are Plymouth (40 mins) or Exeter (1 hour).

Either way we recommend that you have use of a car as it is essential for touring the area.

Distances:

Our nearest village, Lewannick is 1.5 miles away. It has a church, fantastic child's play area, village hall and fabulous shop/off licence/post office which stocks great fresh local produce and good wines.

Further Details:

The nearest big town is Launceston where you will find big supermarkets, Banks and a pharmacy.

We have a few good food pubs within 5 miles of us. If you are looking for restaurants you can find fine dining in Plymouth (40 mins) or Exeter (1 hour) or Newquay (45 mins) where you will find Jamie Olivers Fifteen.

Plenty of accessible beaches.

Wonderful walks on our doorstep, steeped in history.

Shopping can be found in Plymouth, Tavistock, Exeter.

If you like antiques try Lostwithiel (25 mins)

Port Isaac, Tintagel (25 mins) for rugged beauty.

Lanhydrock House (20 mins)

Cothele House (30 mins)

Plenty to keep the children amused.

Launceston has a steam railway. The Lawrence House Museum and Launceston Castle are well worth a visit.
