3 Bedroom, 3 Bathroom with views over the village to the sea
About Catrina Zarkos-Smith
My wife Catrina (who is half Greek) and I first came to Corfu for our honeymoon and fell in love with the island. We have returned with our three (now grown up) sons for very many years afterwards and our love for this wonderful place has grown. In 2008 we built The Almond Tree, in Kendroma, a village in North East Corfu, which is in an unspoilt and uncommercialised area. Since then we've had many happy holidays there with family and friends. Now we are hoping to share it more widely. As a family we enjoy water sports such as water skiing, wake boarding and scuba diving. We keep a boat on the island for all these activities. In the spring and autumn we like to go walking, there are many footpaths in the surrounding area which help you explore the unspoilt countryside. We live in Cambridge where we run a animal nutrition business advising farmers and feed companies in all matters of pig nutrition!

Why Catrina Zarkos-Smith chose Corfu Town
Corfu is a fantastic place to relax, and we've found it to be a safe and easy place to bring our children. The weather is fabulous, too, and there’s enough rainfall to keep the island beautifully green. The beaches around the island are excellent: the water is crystal clear and ideal for swimming, snorkelling, fishing or just messing about. There’s plenty of opportunity for water sports, scuba diving etc, while on the very many unspoilt beaches there are few signs of tourism. We built our house (we've called it The Almond Tree) in Kendroma 15 minutes walk away from Agni Bay, where there are three good tavernas and close to some fantastic little bays and unspoilt beaches. Yet it's also just over a half an hour’s drive from the bright lights and bustle of Corfu Town. We have all learnt to water ski and skuba dive here. In fact the people who taught us to waterski also taught Prince Harry and William in Kalami bay which is only a 30 minute walk from our house. You can also enjoy other water activities such as wake boarding and Ringo rides. We have also played Golf in Corfu and they have an 18 hole coarse about 40-50 minutes away. if you are into mountain biking or running there are loads of challenging paths and tracks to take, such as the highest point on the island at just over 900 meters which is accessible from the house. We are located about 200 meters from the local bus route which takes you into the main town and to other beaches along the coast.
What makes this Villa unique
Our villa offers an outstanding view over the old village out to the sea and the Albanian coast. It’s a very peaceful location, with plenty of areas of shade for you to escape to if the Mediterranean sun is not your cup of tea! With one double and two twin bedrooms, it sleeps six comfortably and has two en-suite and one separate bathroom. Downstairs, it has a large open plan living and dining area, including a fully fitted and equipped kitchen. It’s fully furnished and equipped – all you have you bring is yourselves and beach towels – it is both fully air conditioned and centrally heated, so that you can enjoy the room temperature that suits you best. Outside, there is a large (9m x 4m) fully serviced swimming pool, several large verandah areas and a BBQ for you to use. This year 2017 we have added a pool heater for the beginning and end of season. We are located about 200 meters from the local bus route which takes you into the main town and to other beaches along the coast.

Almond Tree, Corfu
Lovely villa and had a great first visit to Corfu. Wonderful views across to Albania. Few points to note. Didn't walk to Agni Bay, steep route after the village. Entry to villa road is tricky and didn't park in the villa as drive too steep for the car. Pool was lovely but too shallow at one end and slopes quickly. Having said all that we'd be very happy to go again.
Thanks you for your review, glad you had a good time. Getting used to steep climbs by car or foot is always a challenge. Mind you my 79 year mum managed to walk back from Agni to the house each day in the August heat!!
Beautiful villa, stunning views
The Almond Tree is lovely villa. The views (including sunrise) are spectacular and the area is very quiet and peaceful. The kitchen is one of the best equipped we've seen - it literally has everything you could need. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor space for everyone (we were a family of five including 3 teens). Catrina and Andrew were excellent hosts, answering questions beforehand and during our stay. The guest book at the villa included many useful recommendations for walks, restaurants and shopping in the area and further afield. The car hire with Alex (recommended by the owners) was one of the most effortless rentals ever, we were off and driving within minutes of departing the airport.
The walk down to Agni Bay (the closest beach) takes about 20 minutes through paths and olive groves - it is steep on the return however that did not put us off doing it several times during our two week stay, particularly if we were having dinner in one of the excellent tavernas on the beach. There are many other local beaches that can also be accessed by footpath from Agni, or they can be reached by car in just a few minutes. We never had any issues with parking at any of them.
As mentioned in the description the driveway is a bit steep and a little challenging at first, but after a local helped us reverse in the first time we soon got the hang of it. For us, a shop within walking distance would have been ideal, but Aphrodite's market will deliver if you don't fancy going out for supplies. The fruit/veg wholesaler near Aphrodite's is worth a mention - excellent produce at half the price.
Overall the Almond Tree was a fantastic, relaxing base for our two week stay in Corfu.
Thank you so much for your kind review. We were so pleased you had a great holiday and everything went smoothly. It's good to know you enjoyed the walk down to the beach and back again! I'm sure your fitness levels have increased!
We would welcome you back to the Almond Tree if you ever wanted to visit us again.

2019 family trip to The Almond Tree
Great holiday. The setting around the swimming pool was beautiful. Would stay again.
Its always good you enjoyed the holiday enough to stay again, glad you enjoyed your time away!
family holiday in Corfu
Lovely house a (steep-ish) 20 minute walk (or 5 minute drive) from Agni Bay, which is beautiful and has 3 great tavernas and a cafe, as well as boat hire and water sports. The house is fitted out to a good standard, with a well-equipped kitchen, so it was easy to cook there when we didn't feel like going out. Plenty of shady spots outside, which were good in the heat of the day. The house has mosquito nets over all the windows, so you can get a nice breeze through the house at night with the windows open, without worrying about getting mossie bites. Great small supermarket and bakery less than a 5 minute drive away that had everything we needed. They even delivered bread and pastries to us in the mornings. This villa is a good choice for a relaxing holiday.
Thank you very much for your kind review Lara. We were so pleased you enjoyed staying at the Almond Tree and made the most of the fresh bread and pastries. We hope you’ll come again another year. Best wishes, Andrew and Catrina
Lovely spacious house in a great location.
If you like Corfu you will love this house. Spacious and enough room for families. There is lots of outside space too, either on the balconies/terraces or by the pool.
We researched a lot of properties before deciding on the Almond Tree as we wanted somewhere private but also close enough to venture out. Great comms with the owners who answered our questions before our holiday.
Walking down to the local beach/tavernas is possible down a narrow path but walking back is a struggle in mid summer heat and at night would not be easy. A car is recommended especially for getting groceries and exploring.
All in all a wonderful stay and we created some happy memories at the Almond Tree.
Thank you for your review and kind comments.
Special interest holidays:
The beaches around the island are excellent: the water is crystal clear and ideal for swimming, snorkelling, fishing or just messing about. On the more commercial beaches there’s plenty of opportunity for water sports, sub aqua diving etc, while on the very many unspoilt beaches there are quiet areas where there’s no sign of tourism.
Overall, Corfu offers a wide range of attractions for just about everybody: Corfu Town itself is a world heritage site: lots of history, old forts, narrow streets, full of little shops, good restaurants and loads of character. Away from the towns, there are some wonderful walks around the island, although some of these are best enjoyed outside of the height of summer!
The beach is a 15 minute walk away through olive groves - or a 5 minute drive!
The beaches feature three well-known, friendly tavernas with excellent dining, as well as boat hire and watersports facilities!
