An exceptionally attractive, light and airy house at the end of a private drive. In a very quiet but central position in this picturesque village in the South Hams, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. All modern facilities and furnishings are to a very high standard, including central heating and hot water. Good sized safe garden, mostly lawn. Faces south from suntrap terrace across fields and wetlands (preserved wild life sanctuary) with views to golf course, sea, and Bolt Tail (National Trust). 5 minutes walk to the beaches, coves, golf course, tennis courts, village shop / post office, pub, bird-watching. Within 10 / 15 minutes drive for sailing, water sports, boat-hire and fishing at Salcombe, surfing at Bantham, cliff walks at Bolt Head and Burgh Island, horse-riding. 45 minutes drive to Dartmoor for trekking, horse-riding, walking.

About Roger Wood
Little Egret has been our holiday home for over 15 years. For 30 years we rented houses in Thurlestone and Salcombe for our family holidays. We have 3 children in their 40s, who between them have 8 children and a yellow Labrador, and we have 2 black Labradors. So the house is well used throughout the year and is arranged so that it is very comfortable and simple to run. An added attraction for us is that we have a number of friends who live locally. My wife and I stay every month throughout the year as we value the quieter periods outside school holidays to unwind, walk the Labradors along the cliff and beaches, play golf, sail, and eat well.

Why Roger Wood chose Thurlestone
We bought it because we wanted sea views without being exposed to strong winds, a few minutes walk to the beaches, the best weather in the UK, and easy access from our home in Surrey. Our family has holidayed in both Salcombe and Thurlestone for 40+ years because the South Hams has beautiful unspoilt beaches, cliffs, estuaries, rolling countryside, and Dartmoor is on its doorstep. The South Hams has its own micro climate which is often so much warmer and sunnier than the rest of England. Initially the crowds of Salcombe had some appeal to us. But we have matured to Thurlestone (15 minutes away) so that we benefit from a lovely village by the sea without crowds.
What makes this House unique
Originally our very young and then teenage children fell in love with the variety of seaside things to do. They are now 30 & 40 year olds who love the house and the area so much that their children can't get enough of family holidays at Little Egret. There is always so much to do being 5 mins walk to beaches, surfing, golf, tennis, village pub and shop, and within a short drive of everywhere in the South Hams and Dartmoor. Good restaurants and pubs abound. Historical places of interest and childrens places of entertainment are within short distances. Compared with more restricted holiday lets, we offer a fully equipped house, with space and relaxation for two large families or four couples, sea views from the terrace and most rooms, and an enclosed, safe garden for children and dogs.

A1 house and location
Fabulous house. Really well equipped. Spacious comfortable spotles have visited many times and hopefully will be visiting many more. A real treat. Close to golf, tennis, beaches, pub, village shop. Great dog walks. What's not to like

Perfect Christmas getaway
Just spent 4 days in Thurlestone over the Christmas period. House is wonderful and the photos here don’t do it justice. Spotlessly clean, comfy beds, and the one of the best equipped kitchens I’ve come across. Christmas Dinner was eaten in The Village Inn and was excellent. Really quiet and peaceful, and only about 500 yds to walk to the sea. The owners were very helpful and even put out a few Xmas decorations for our stay. We will be back, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Coast/Beach: 5 minutes walk to Thurlestone beaches and Thurlestone Sands - a mixture of sandy coves and long sandy bays. 15 minutes drive to Salcombe estuary - a haven for sailing, swimming, water skiing, fishing, scuba-diving (including dozens of wrecks). A sizeable local shell fishing fleet exists, supplying fresh fish daily to local restaurants. 10 minutes drive to Bantham Bay - well-known for surfing, paddleboarding, kite surfing and windsurfing. Travel: One hour's drive to both Exeter and Plymouth airports. Use of car is essential. Distances: 10 minutes drive to Kingsbridge, the nearest town. 15 minutes to Salcombe. 45 minutes to Dartmouth, a good shopping town. 35 minutes to Totnes, with regular main line rail services to London and connecting locations for the whole of the UK. Numerous places of interest within 15-30 minutes drive to NT properties-Agatha Christies' home at Greenways; Flete House-home to a Barings banker; Burgh Island Art Deco decorated hotel and 15th century Pilchards Inn-crossing the bar by high-wheeltractor. Further Details: Village shop is 5 minutes walk for everyday items. Kingsbridge (10 mins drive) has good shops including supermarkets, banks, cinema. Salcombe and Dartmouth are recognised shoppers' paradise. Restaurants and very good pub restaurants and bar snacks abound - details are available in the house. Additional information about rental rates
Booking Notes: Telephone or email owner to confirm availability of requested dates and any special arrangements (e.g. more or less than the normal Friday to Friday weeks). 50% deposit is paid to confirm booking. Balance of payment is due 28 days before start of booking. A key to the house is sent with arrival and departure instructions. Written confirmation of bookings will be given. A refundable deposit of £100 (plus a further £100 if a dog is agreed) is required; refund subject to any charges for Housekeeping damage. Changeover Day: Normally Friday. Subject to other arrangements with owners. The house is available from 3.00 pm on Fridays. Guests are asked to leave by 11.00 am on the final day of their holiday to allow cleaners sufficient time to prepare for the next guests.
