Comfortable and well-equipped holiday home but extremely slow internet
We stayed 3 nights at Rumblings 2 as a family of four - 2 adults, a 3 yr old and a 3-month old. The house was very spacious and kitchen, bedrooms and living room were equipped with everything you'd need. There were books and toys which my 3-yr old was very happy to play with. The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived which is always very very nice ! We also appreciated the milk, tea, coffee, biscuits and crisps which was part of the welcome pack. We'd have liked some hand-soap in the toilet and an oven mitt but other than that, we can't complain.
The biggest downside here was the internet. Rumblings 2 (there's Rumblings 1 and 3) was supposed to have its own connection but this didn't work. Neither my phone nor my husband's phone network worked inside the house or outside making it very difficult to contact Dave/Tania once we were there.
We found their children playing in the backyard and they got Dave to help us out. Basically, it is the same internet line for all 3 properties and it is terribly slow - you can't open a simple email or website without a wait (think dial-up). On the first day, we were the only tenants and we managed to get it to work - woo hoo! On the second day, some neighbours arrived and that was it, no more contact with the outside world.
This is of course absolutely fine as the idea was to spend time in the great outdoors which we did. However, if you are using Rumblings as your base, best to do your research beforehand, have all routes and maps ready to go. If you plan to wing it like we did with the children, then not having an internet connection is a great handicap. Property advertises "Wifi available throughout" and this isn't true.
The Peak District is a truly beautiful part of the country and The Rumblings is a very nice location (as long as you have a car) to get to many lovely places in a very short time. We recommend the Treak Cliff Cavern, Walk up to Mam Tor, Peveril Castle and just driving around the countryside.
Cosy warm retreat
The property was cosy and clean and finished to a high standard through out, with a well equipped kitchen, and good quality fittings and furnishings; located in a beautiful scenic country environment; providing a cosy retreat for any time of the year. Also a good bus service connection to Sheffield city if necessary was a bonus. The only draw back was that the best view of the countryside was restricted to only the main bedroom. However, in all a not a bad value, my mother who is almost 80 and a retired fussy cleaner was very comfortable.
Exactly what we were looking for
Really clean and modern interior with fireplace and central heating. It was very cold but sunny when we stayed at the end of October but cottage was cosy and warm. Views around property were beautiful and we had two out of three gorgeous sunny days. Close to Bakewell and Chatsworth House with lots of walking trails to choose from. Quiet, rural area but only 20 minutes drive to Chesterfield. Treats on arrival were very welcome. Thank you.
A lovely well-appointed cottage in a beautiful rural setting. Owners are friendly and accommodating.
A great cottage - everything we needed for an enjoyable stay in Derbyshire.Friendly hosts - highly recommended
Clean, spacious, lovely location
We really enjoyed our stay at Rumblings 2. The cottage was much more spacious than we expected, and was very clean and well presented. The owners had left a thoughtful welcome pack of milk, butter, bread etc too. Location is great for visiting Peak District. We would definitely stay here again.
Perfect venue for Chatsworth, Bolsover Castle, Hardwick Hall, Longshaw Estate, Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Buxton, Chesterfield and Sheffield. The cottage is good but the sofas are not comfortable. The single beds appear to be 2ft 6in wide so not good for adults. The shower is an electric one rather than from the hot water system. The bench outside is ideal for removing mucky boots but being right on the driveway isn't somewhere for a sundowner, nor suitable as a children play area. However, everything else was great and we would recommend it with the above caveats.
The Rumblings are set on the outskirts of Barlow, a quaint Village set on the eastern edge of the Peak District National Park. The Rumblings offer a superb base to explore all the Peak District has to offer.
Chatsworth House and Country Park, a mere 10 min drive from the properties, is considered one of the greatest stately homes in the United Kingdom and attracts almost 3/4's of a million visitors each year.
Walkers have a number of footpaths to choose from right on the door step to explore the beautiful local valleys in either direction.
