Close to the historic town of Châlus, on the Richard the Lionheart route, just 5 minutes drive from the Dordogne and 45 minutes drive from the beautiful capital of the Dordogne Perigueux. Chalus is just 25 minutes from the historic City of Limoges world famous for it's porcelain. Our property is perfect as a base to explore the region, for families and friends looking for a relaxing outdoor holiday. Gouhaut is the perfect location for walkers, runners and cyclists with quiet roads, stunning views and abundant nature. Leisure facilities can be found close by including tennis courts and plan d'eau's where more vigorous activities such as tree top walks, zip wires and vela rail can be found. Our property has a heated pool which fully complies with all security requirements featuring a safety gate and fence around the pool area. The property has a large south facing patio ideal for al fresco dining and has a large barbecue. We welcome well behaved pets (maximum 2 dogs).

About Mel Leishman

Alan & Melanie divide their time between the UK and France. Melanie is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Manchester and Alan works in IT Services.

They bought Gouhaut in 2007 and with the help and support of Mel's parents have renovated the old barn adjoining their property and created a holiday home they are truly proud of.

Why Mel Leishman chose Limoges

Alan and Mel fell in love with the rural tranquility of the area, the unspoilt countryside and the abundant nature. The Limousin enjoys proper seasons, green in the spring, hot in the summer, brown in the Autumn and absolutely freezing in the winter!

There is so much to see and do in the area, details of which can be found in the property.

They are both keen outdoors people. Mel cycles and runs miles on the unbelievably quiet roads in the region, whilst Alan can often be found fishing (or sleeping) by one of the thousands of small ponds or lakes in the area. The Limousin is one of the carp fishing capitals of the world and is often referred to as 'the French lake district'.

Notes on accommodation: There are steps from the patio to access garden and pool area.The Gite is adjoined by the owners house who will not usually be in residence during 2014 whilst guests are in the gite. If they are in residence, they will not disturb your privacy at all. The pool will be maintained during your stay. Outside: Comfortable, high quality rattan furniture (2 tables and 8 chairs) with 2 large parasols are provided for use on the terrace, 8 sun loungers, 4 small drinks tables and 4 smaller parasols are provided poolside. There is a private 8m x 4m heated swimming pool. The pool is 1.5m deep with a Roman end and large steps. There is also a large charcoal barbeque. A badminton set and a set of boules is provided for playing in the garden. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towels including pool towels will be provided. All bed linen provided and a change of linen and towels will be provided for customers staying for two weeks.

Fabulous stay in a fabulous property.

My husband and I were lucky enough to celebrate my 50th birthday with friends in this beautiful location.

We flew to Limoges airport, picked up hire car and set off. .. As we got nearer to the gite, our stresses from UK life melted away as we drove through the beautiful countryside.

The gite is even nicer than the website 'photos. It's lovely and airy, beautifully furnished with delightful views from the huge kitchen- the local supermarket stocks everything you could want- and has a smashing wine selection!

So with the American fridge stocked, we poured some wine and relaxed on the terrace. It has a fabulous view of the brilliant pool and countryside- and we spent most evenings savouring that view.

The bedrooms are beautifully furnished and have good quality bed linen. Which lead to a week of perfect nights sleep.

The gite is perfectly situated to be able to drive to many different places of interest. I can recommend Brantôme- where I spent a memorable birthday, lunching in the shadow of a fabulous chateau.

Mel and Al were wonderful. They provided lots of information, both in the extensive file and in person. We were lucky enough to share a few bottles of recommended wine with them too!

I would return in a heartbeat- a truly wonderful place.

Fabulous Gite in beautiful surroundings

We stayed at the Gite with our two young children and our very close friends. The Gite is very clean, spacious and modern with some lovely original features for added character.

We spent a few days by the pool enjoying the sunshine in the peaceful surroundings and many times eating al fresco on the patio while the children could safely play in the garden as the pool was separated by a safety gate. Mel and Al were fantastic, the information file in the Gite directed us to some beautiful places, would highly recommend Brantôme, absolutely stunning little place. The Gite is in a fabulous location, a short drive from lamoges airport, very rural but with a great supermarket and Boulangerie a short drive away to get your fresh bread and essentials. Would highly recommend staying here, the only disappointing thing was having to leave to get back to reality at home.

Five star. And more!

The gite is absolutely delightful and in a gorgeous region of la belle France which we hadn't visited before. The accommodation is spacious, beautifully furnished, with quality gear and appliances (including super comfy beds!!) — luxury all round. An idyllic rural retreat, with only birdsong and the odd tractor breaking the silence. There can be few things finer than sitting on the terrace looking at the lush countryside with a glass of something chilled. About as near to heaven as you can get. Alan and Mel are perfect hosts too. Absolutely highly recommended.

Delightful holiday in a calm picturesque setting

On arrival I was struck with the delightfully quiet and calm setting. For miles you can see lush green fields, cows grazing and the sound of silence punctuated by birds singing. The accommodation was perfect. Extremely spacious, a separate bathroom for each guest, huge open plan lounge and kitchen/diner. All the mod cons you could need. Fabulous huge outside terrace, which we regularly barbecued at with the family. Extremely good sized well maintained garden that my 11 month old son was safe to play in. A lovely sized pool, offering several comfy loungers and parasols, which was a welcome break from the scorching heat.

Couldn't fault the accommodation or area. Also a nice short 20 min drive from the airport, close to a local supermarket and petrol station, and a nice leisurely drive from brantome (well worth a day out). Can't wait to go back!

A fantastic family get away

It's been 18 months since our visit to The Gouhaut in Chalus and we are just checking availability for a return visit. The house is perfect to relax and is in such a scenic part of the world. Anyone paying a visit should have a tour round Perigueux which is stunning in summer, lunch by the river was a great experience. A hire car is recommended and transport links from Limoges can get you anywhere in France, we enjoyed days out travelling to Bordeux by train. A fantastic holiday location for either young families, or older couples looking to relax, the house easily caters for both.

A last word for the hosts who catered for all our needs and more, really looking forward to going back.

Booking Notes:
A deposit of 25% must be paid to secure booking by cheque or bank transfer and the balance must be settled eight weeks prior to arrival.

In addition, a £250 security deposit is required which will be refunded within 14 days following departure.

Changeover Day:
All changeovers occur on a Saturday, arrivals no earlier than 4pm. Departure by 10am, however, the owners will aim to be as flexible as possible.
