Overview

About the property

Cottage in Mortehoe, Nr. Woolacombe, North Devon, England - Beautiful Beaches, Coastal Walks, Exmoor, Country Pubs And A Roaring Fire

Old Post Cottage - a beautiful 16th-century hideaway just off Mortehoe’s charming village square - offers stylish self-catering accommodation on the North Devon coast.

It’s a short stroll from the pub, restaurant and shop but tucked away on a quiet traffic-free path. With one double and one twin bedroom, and a large private garden, it’s perfect for couples or families.

Mortehoe is a pretty coastal village surrounded by National Trust land in a marine conservation area. Rockham Beach is a 20-minute walk from the cottage. Morte Point, an area of outstanding natural beauty, is almost on the doorstep—as is the South West Coast Path.

Woolacombe, the adjacent village, is famous for its perfect sandy bay which in 2015 Tripadvisor named the best beach in Britain. There are several other beaches in Woolacombe and a number of good restaurants, too.

Other great surfing beaches like Croyde, Saunton and Puttsborough are just a couple of miles away. Exmoor National Park isn’t much further. The village itself has cosy pubs, two excellent restaurants (limited winter opening), a Post Office, a 13th-century church and a shop where you can pick up fresh croissants for breakfast.

Activities in the area include surfing, walking, sea kayaking, coasteering, fishing, golf and of course lazing on the beach.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful week. The cottage was lovely and a lot bigger than we were expecting. It was very carefully presented on arrival - your housekeeper does a brilliant job. We were taken aback by the setting as we hadn't discovered Mortehoe before and we love it, the walks are breathtaking.

We had a really good time and your cottage is lovely. We had great walks, surprisingly good weather and we enjoyed the local pubs - we have fallen in love with the area.

We had an amazing week in your beautiful cottage. We loved the cottage itself, the village and the nearby beaches. The village store is great to have round the corner. Perfect! We hope to stay again.

Superb cottage

  • 4 of 5

A lovely, clean cottage in a perfect & quiet location.

We were very well looked after with the owners supplying a lot of the small but essential details such as hand soap in every bathroom, washing up liquid, dish washer tablets, tea bags, sugar and even fresh milk on arrival - really thoughtful details which we didn't expect.

Peaceful garden and wonderful local corner shop with friendly staff.

We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

Our stay in the lovely Old post cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in the old post cottage. Our boys loved the garden and the games in the house. We loved the small but well equipped and beautiful rooms. We hope to come back! Even if the way from Germany is quite long...

lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful cottage is steeped in history, but equipped with all the modern amenities with taste and style. The location is beautiful – off the main road, yet within a few steps of all the important venues for shopping and eating fish & chips. Mortehoe is surrounded by rolling hills of green and looks out over the ocean - I could hardly think of a better place to spend my summer holidays. We'll definitely be back!
