About Darren and Suzanne Bird
Darren and Suzanne Bird.We have been visiting Symonds Yat for 20 years or more and still love the area.We had always dreamed of owning a house here and when Tivoli came on the market in 2007 we had big plans to renovate this derelict cottage. We have only just converted it into a holiday let and are really pleased with the results
Darren and Suzanne Bird purchased this Cottage in 2007
Why Darren and Suzanne Bird chose Whitchurch
We love the area because it's a perfect escape from the crowds but with plenty to do and see if we choose. There are wonderful views from the cottage and there are many walks straight from the garden gate.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage is set in its own private grounds and is only a few minutes walk to the river and pubs. The cottage benefits from its own off road parking for three cars.It has two large decked areas which are great for al fresco dining or admiring the views with a glass of wine.

A wonderful winter weekend
Had the most wonderful winter weekend away. The cottage has the most magnificent views towards the Wye. The fires kept us cosy and the kitchen is well equipped. The garden is large, secure and perfect for our Golden Retriever when he was not exploring the river banks. We had a delicious lunch at the Wye Knot Inn and cannot wait to visit again in summer.
Lovely Cottage in a lovely location
This is I think the fifth time that we have stayed at this cottage so it is about time we gave this a review. The fact that we have been five times and have another booked for next year should tell you something about how we feel for the place.
The cottage itself is excellent, a good front room, two comfortable bedrooms, a characterful and well equipped kitchen, and a nice big practical entrance room for getting the muddy boots off. There are log burners in both the front room and the kitchen/diner area which is nice, but also the central heating is excellent so we use the fire just cos we can :).
The outside space is lovely with a great decking area with spectacular views of the Wye Valley and to the side is a nice landscaped garden as well.
The location of the cottage is great for us too, it is easy to reach from the main A40 and what we like is the close proximity to the walks around Symonds Yat, and for the evening the excellent choice of local boozers The Wye Knott is the nearest and is a cosy friendly pub and we like the Crown at Whitchurch for it's excellent and cheaply priced Vodka selection. Also the Old Ferry Inn as a great pub located right on the river and the Saracen's head on the other side.
Finally the owners are great and helpful when needed and always prompt with coming back with any questions you have.
Is there anything that could be done better, well it has a rather noisy fridge but that is about it... who cares :). I suppose one thing to note is the steep steps from where you park the car to the property could be a look out for some but for most that is not a problem.
The pictures do not do it justice!
We enjoyed a fantastic stay at Tivoli! The cottage is perfectly well equipped and easily caters for 6 people. The garden area and multiple outdoor decking areas are really impressive! Only wished we had less rain and could have enjoyed it more! Bread, milk and biscuits on arrival...classy touch! Private parking for up to x3 cars is such a bonus in the valley and shouldn't be underestimated! Perfect location situated between two pubs...a very short stumble home! As the title suggests, the photos do not do this cottage justice. We cant wait to come back!
A beautiful well equipped cottage.
A beautiful well equipped cottage with lovely outdoor space to relax and admire the amazing views. Great walks, friendly pubs with good food. Brilliant place for the dogs. The surrounding area is quite stunning. A great place for a very relaxing break and one I hope to return too. Thank you
Another wonderful stay....
another wonderful 3 day stay at Tivoli Cottage....turning into my favourite place to stay!. Cottage is perfectly appointed, the location is stunning and we had a weekend of wonderful long walks and great food in the old Ferrie inn.....floated into work on Tuesday morning....love this place. Paul, Merseyside.
Great get away
Lovely place to get away from it all. Easy access to the river with the kids and dog, so we had plenty of walks enjoying the lovely surroundings. Loved the log fire, specially the one in the kitchen making the cottage cosy and comfortable. The cottage was well equipped and it was nice to arrive to a loaf of bread, milk and some cookies. Thank you. Kids loved the garden, lots to explore but safe for them to play out with a secure fence allowing the dog freedom too.
Probably be back in the future.
