Fully fitted kitchen with hob, oven, fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. Spacious lounge with 32" flat screen digital TV with DVD, comfortable leather suite, Patio area with table and chairs. The Bungalow is in a quiet location on a park with a shop, indoor pool, gymnasium, tennis Courts, bistro (open daily between 10am and 4pm) and woodland walks. It is an ideal base for all types of holidays, walking, cycling, sight see-ing or just relaxing.

About Steve Bastock

Almar Holidays started in 1970 when my parents Alan & Margaret (Al-mar) bought their first holiday home in Hemsby near Gt Yarmouth, the business continued to expand with the addition of many more homes on the Sundowner Site. 10 years later they bought a Holiday Bungalow at Gurnard Pines Holiday Park, near Cowes on the Isle of Wight. My parents are now enjoying a well earned retirement and Almar Holidays is now run by myself, Steve and my wife Jeanette. We have continued to develop the Holiday Homes on both sites over the years with particular attention given to making them modern, very comfortable with a home from home feel.

Why Steve Bastock chose Isle of Wight

My parents first fell in love with the Isle of Wight when they spent their Honeymoon there in the 1950's, returning many times, so in 1980 they bought their own Holiday Home, the Gurnard Bungalow. The Bungalow is situated on a quiet site about a mile from the picturesque sailing village of Cowes. The site itself is spacious, has a bistro, shop and leisure facilities (indoor swimming pool, gym and tennis courts) It also has lovely woodland walk which is the home to the rare Red Squirrel. A short walk away is the beach, a local sailing club and the Woodvale Pub where you can watch a beautiful sunset while enjoying the local fayre.

What makes this bungalow unique

The Bungalow is easily accessible by road with parking at the rear or near to the front. There are leisure facilities with indoor swimming pool, a gym and tennis courts. There is now a Convenience Store on site and also a bistro serving food and drink with a terrace overlooking the pool (open daily 10am - 4pm) There is also a bus service near to the site which runs regularly into Cowes and the town of Newport. One of the features of the site is the rare Red Squirrel, directly opposite the Bungalow is a large tree with a feeding station where you have excellent views of the Red Squirrel enjoying an early breakfast!

Nice quiet holiday park, bungalow in need of some attention

Excellent location, and the arrangements all went smoothly and the property was easy to find. Some aspects of the bungalow were disappointing, in particular the mould in the second bedroom and bathroom. The mattresses were uncomfortable and the rings on the hob took forever to warm up! An additional couple of chairs for outside would also have been helpful.

Quiet and calming

The bungalow was very nice, fully equipped with everything we needed and situated perfectly for all of the amenities. The site is very quiet and there is not much to do in the evenings. Wednesday there is live music and Saturday is Karaoke but I think that was it. We had lovely weather so made good use of the outdoor pool. I think it would be a very expensive holiday if the weather was bad. Overall I would recommend it and we will be going back.

quiet

We found this a very quiet site. The view from the lounge was very good. We could see the sea and fields with out having to get up from our seats. We could park at the back of the building with out the car being in the way of the view. I would deffiantly go back again. The only draw back was the cost of the ferry and also the main lane to the site, you had to avoid the pot holes, other wise OK

Owner's Response: This review refers to a another property on Gurnard Pines Leisure Park. Although there are no direct sea views from our Bungalow there are pleasant views of the fields, and the Red Squirrel feeding area.

5 minute drive or 20 minute walk to the nearest beach. Beach is a mixture of sand and pebbles, with boating facilities, beach huts, café, pub and children's play area

Travel:

The Gurnard Bungalow is approximately 20 minutes from the East Cowes Ferry Port via Newport. However access can be gained from East Cowes via a Floating Bridge (chainlink ferry) It is then only a 5 minute drive to the Bungalow.

Distances:

Cowes 1 mile. Newport 3 mile.

Further Details:

Local shop (newspapers/groceries etc) approx 500 metres away. Banks, restaurants, shops, bars etc in nearby Cowes approx 1 mile. The Portland Pub is only a short walk away and has Sky TV and WiFi.
