Uniquely, the villa’s owners are away all summer, and rent only the barn, so you can enjoy the facilities, gardens and privacy of a multi-million Euro property and that aren’t usually available to a property in this price range. Il Fienile offers, on the garden level, a big covered area with kitchen and table seating for 20 while, while on the pool level, there is a fully equipped kitchen, 2 double bedrooms/bathrooms. The infinity pool (15m x 5m) is directly open to the barn, so it’s unsuitable for small children, but is immersed in the olive grove.. A pergola offers shade in the summer while a floor-to-ceiling window door opens directly to the kitchen. The hot tub (2x3m) offers a relaxing alternative to the pool. Moreover the garden has a playground for kids with tree house, swings and toys as well as an organic garden. Il Fienile is located in the Valdera, just a 1 hour drive from Pisa airport. Its position allows for day trips to San Gimignano, Volterra, Pisa and Florence.
I'm Italian currently living in Florence, with my British wife and three little girls. I lived in America for over 20 years, and only recently moved to Italy to expose my children to their Italian heritage. We will be heading to England this Summer to live, so our beautiful country house will need someone else to enjoy it. It's very private, in a lovely setting in the midst of olive groves. It has wonderful views, it is close to many of the most famous attractions of central Tuscany (from Pisa and Florence to San Gimignano , Volterra and the coast), it is comfortable, homey and has a lovely pool and outdoor area for alfresco dining. Hope to see you soon!
Gianfranco Chicco purchased this barn in 2010
Magical place, beautiful countryside and amazing karma make this an ideal location for a holiday Home
Uniquely provides amenities of a much more expensive property (large garden, al fresco dining, private pool and hot tub) while owners of the Main house are away.
Il Fienile provided a wonderful setting in the heart of beautiful tuscan countryside for our family holiday. The villa has extensive, well kept gardens which provided a perfect playground for our 4 year old son. Enver the very helpful gardener kept us supplied with home grown vegetables during our stay. The accommodation itself was of a very high standard, with the large pool and jacuzzi being very enjoyable on a warm Tuscan summer's day. We had a perfect holdiay here and would happily recommend it to others. R.C., UK, 6/2013
The villa was fabulous. The kitchen area had everything we needed. The bedrooms were a good size and the beds were very comfortable. The bathrooms were really nice. Christina was on hand if we needed anything. The wifi was good but we were unable to make use of the TV.
The swimming pool was fabulous as was the spa pool.
The location of the villa is quite remote but getting to Pisa, Florence, Lucca and other places could not have been easier.
The only downside was the fact that we were unable to sit outside early mornings or evenings due to the mosquitos. We were also unable to open any of the windows which meant that we were really hot. I would recommend that some form of net screens be put on all windows. We noticed that the main house had some. We were unable to use the bbq area which looked fantastic due to the mosquitos.
We really enjoyed staying at the villa and all the facilities were fabulous.
The property was wonderful and the accommodations were comfortable and spacious especially the living room with soaring high ceilings which gave a lot of volume and light. Both bathrooms were very nice as well. The pool was fantastic, very large infinity pool which gave away to century old on olive trees, very peaceful and calm view. Not to forget the gigantic jacuzzi pool which was just a treat and could almost be considered a small swimming pool from the size of it. Most memorable was the grounds which are carefully taking care of with a very beautiful meadow with century old olive trees that surround the entire property. The caretaker came by a couple times with fresh eggs and vegetables from the nearby hen and orchard. Overall all the services per top notch, and beds and linens were top quality. We defining recommend a stay in this property, as it allows you to truly enjoy the experience and grandeur of a a large estate within affordable means.
This was a real piece of Tuscan paradise! Il Fienile is the guest accommodation to the main house which itself is absolutely gorgeous. But as the owners are away in the summer we had the barn, the pool and all the grounds completely to ourselves. The setting and the views are spectacular, being able to see miles and miles of breathtaking Tuscan countryside.
It is very remote but that is partly its charm, there is no 'popping out' to get anything as the nearest shops are about 20 minutes away - so make sure you stock up well. Reading other reviews we were warned about the bumpy track but our medium family car laden with luggage and groceries really did struggle. However, the track was being levelled while we were there and by the time we left, the drive was much easier.
The barn is simply and tastefully furnished, very clean and well maintained as are the gardens and the pool. A huge living, dining and open plan kitchen area at one end - so light and airy. Really good oven and we cooked some amazing meals especially with the beautiful produce from the vegetable garden that we were given. No air conditioning but the ceiling fans worked really well. (The ceiling fan in the twin bedroom wasn't working but Christina had provided a portable fan which our son appreciated). The bed in the master bedroom is enormous and so comfortable - we slept very well. (My one request here would be to have a mirror in the master bedroom as the only mirror is in the bathroom).
But the real treat is all the outside space and the views. The infinity pool looks over the olive grove and across to Cedri. It is a 'proper' pool that you really can swim in and a great shallow area where I could sit and cool down in the hot sun! The hot tub was also a welcome and fun surprise. The outside kitchen is great and my husband said the big stone bbq was the best he had ever bbq'd on! We loved to walk around the grounds in the evening and watch the sunset with a glass of wine. Our teenage son commandeered the hammock and with the excellent Wifi was most content.
Having spent some time in Florence first, we were happy not to go anywhere for our first few days at Il Fienile so really appreciated all of the facilities. But once you do get out of the long drive and through Cedri (which is only a handful of houses) it is well positioned to visit Volterra and San Gimingiano which are stunning.
Thank you Gianfranco for sharing your beautiful property - we had the most amazing holiday!
The first impression that hits you as you approach the property along a rickety track, into olive groves and lavender, is that you are entering a scene from a Bertolucci movie. This is Tuscany!
Despite being only 45 mins from Pisa this is a part of Tuscany inhabited the Tuscans not the tourists. As such the surrounding towns and villages are authentic and welcoming. (The host has written a long list of recommended restaurants to visit).
The property itself is in the grounds of a very grand Tuscan villa and is itself of the highest quality. The pool was our salvation as Southern Europe was experiencing a heat wave. Our girls (9,6 and 1 years old) all lived in the pool for the week! The baby could wade in the shallow end with us whilst the other played on the inflatables.
A car is essential as it is isolated, which is of course it's charm. The approach road is bumpy so a robust car is advised.
If you are looking for an authentic hideaway Il Fienile is perfect. Great holiday. Great hosts. Great place. A privilege to be able to stay.
This is the ultimate property for peace and relaxation whilst being able to admire the absolutely stunning views across the Tuscan countryside.
Immaculately clean and a very well equipped barn with a lovely infinity pool and hot tub right outside the door. The children had a fabulous time playing in the vast gardens full of olive trees.
Whilst enjoying the complete peace we were able to jump in the car and not be far from civilisation. It was easy to visit Florence, Volterra, San Gimignano and Sienna as centrally located for all these amazing towns that you have to visit whilst in Tuscany. We also enjoyed a wine tasting guide locally.
A fabulous holiday in an amazing property. I would definately recommend staying here.
Superb customer service from start to finish. We were able to relax in this stylish property with fantastic facilities for the family. Swimming in the infinity pool under the olive trees and relaxing in the waterfall in the hot tub were highlights. We were well looked after by the gardener who shared eggs, tomatoes and chillies grown in the garden with us. We even were looked after by the two adorable resident cats. We would recommend a suitable hire car for the long uneven driveway... but don't let this detract from an incredible holiday home! Thank you for sharing it with us.
