About Jo Cooke

My name is Jo and my parents have lived in this area for over 40 years, first farming and making cheese then in 1990 converting what used to be their milking parlour for their herd of beautiful Jersey cows, into this fabulous 10 bedroom house which has been popular with guests ever since. I now endeavour to create a happy, easy-going atmosphere and try to make your holiday special.

Why Jo Cooke chose South Hams

This property is always clean with lots of space for a big group to either be together or retreat into their own space (with all bedrooms having their own bathrooms). The wow factor is simple; when you drive down the drive the valley opens up into some of the loveliest views Devon has to offer. This is a very peaceful spot, there is no traffic noise, no pylons and just the sounds of the countryside that welcome you when you arrive and for your stay. A great, affordable place to get away from it all. The bedrooms are bright and comfortable and all bathrooms are simple and clean.

What makes this house unique

People keep coming back because of the views, the facilities, the indoor and outdoor space, the fact its so close to the lovely town of Totnes yet in a unique valley. Plus it has modern, clean accommodation.

Guestbook comments from the owner

A fabulous place to bring our families together, accommodation is perfect, lots of space for the children and adults, beautiful, quiet surroundings, lots of things to do, we'll be back!

Electricity
The Shippon is a big house using up to £35 of electricity a day (during the winter) and so we encourage people to be mindful of the amount of electricity they are using. So from January 2017 all new bookings include an allocated amount of electricity. This allowance which is based on the previous two years guest use in the same week will be inclusive within your rental price, but if your use is above this we will need to charge you for the extra units used. We have made the decision to do this as part of a wider sustainability policy for the house. Extra electricity will be charged per additional unit (above your allowance) used during your stay, and can either be paid for in cash at the end of your stay or can be deducted from your damages deposit. We want you to enjoy your break without the worry of a big bill at the end and we hope that this is a good solution for everyone.
For any bookings made before January 2017 the following applies:
Please note that ELECTRICITY IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ABOVE PRICE. We can provide a very accurate estimate of electricity costs for your stay based on previous years. Please also note that the hot tubs are electric (costing approximately £1.50 each per day to run) and you have the choice to either have one or two running during your stay, or none!
