Why Elma Gallagher chose Kincasslagh
One of our many reviews on Trip Advisor.......... Spectacular setting, perfect accommodation, excellent hosts... Left on May 8, 2018 for a stay in May 2018 Donegal is an amazing part of the world - spectacular scenery, beautiful unspoilt empty beaches, mountains, golf courses, and wonderful friendly people. Carrickfinn is the world's most scenic airport, surrounded by the Wild Atlantic and on the Wild Atlantic Way and has the unique backdrop of the Derryveagh Mountains, dominated by the iconic Mount Errigal, Donegal's highest peak. Donegal is a 'must visit' and was voted the 'Coolest place on earth' - National Geographic 2017. Close by the airport (1 km if that) are the holiday cottages owned and run by Elma and Cathal, wonderful hosts. The accommodation is modern and exudes old world cottage charm without compromising on comfort or cosiness - a perfect retreat and base to see and do all that the local county has to offer. On arrival we were made very, very welcome, offered tea and shown to the cottages nearby. Cathal thoroughly briefed us on how to use the heating, TV, the turf fire and the sauna (yes... the sauna!) and was very helpful and reminded us several times that if we needed any help with any aspect of our holiday or stay to be sure to phone either him or Elma and they would be delighted to help us out. Nothing was a problem and our late arrival and flexible departure time enhanced our relaxed experience. The cottage is very clean and comfortable. The turf, which is provided, gives a lovely, charming fire and the sauna is a great addition to unwind after a days climbing or golfing or whatever takes your fancy. The remote location is so restful, peaceful, quiet and calming that after a few hours you leave your cares behind you and immerse yourself in the locale. That said the world is on your door step literally with the airport nearby!!

Most enjoyable stay
Well looked after, well equipped, good for walks, charming owners.
A little piece of heaven right here on earth!
We first stayed at Carrickfinn last October, when we tried a self-catering holiday in Donegal for the first time after many years of B&B-ing, and fell in love with the cottage and the area, and with Cathal and Elma. We vowed then that we would return - which we did, for two weeks, in June this year. Everything was just as good as before apart from the weather, which was even better! The cottage is delightful; homely, well-equipped and spacious (there were just the two of us on this occasion, but it will comfortably accommodate six adults) and it is ideally situated - sufficiently 'away from it all', but just a leisurely 15 minute walk from a wonderful beach, a 5 minute drive to an even more spectacular one and then only another 10 minutes or so to a really good grocery store, and a post office and other local amenities. It also makes an ideal base from which to go further afield and experience all the other delights that the beautiful county of Donegal has to offer - nowhere (apart perhaps from the Inishowen peninsula) is much more than about an hour or so away by car. We loved every minute of our stay there, and it was made that extra bit special by the owners, Cathal and Elma, whose warmth and hospitality made our holiday there complete. We have no hesitation in giving Carrickfinn 5 stars, and we will definitely be back next year!

Fantastic. Such a cosy and well equipped house.
We stayed with our three young children. What a great time we all had.
The house is very well presented, homely and cosy. We loved the fire at night.
The local area is beautiful, with great beaches.
The reservation process, checking in etc was very easy and we received very clear directions to the property. The property owners were very friendly and helpful.
We definitely will return.
Thank you Maria for your review, it is much appreciated . We are so glad you enjoyed your time in our cottage and will look forward to welcoming you another time.
The place to be !
It was our pleasure to have you stay in our holiday cottage. We look forward to seeing you again when you visit our beautiful county.
Céad Mile Fáilte !!!
We were travelling from Germany to Ireland for a family wedding, and as we had originally planned to save my wife (our only driver) the drive from Dublin, we looked to fly up from Dublin and so the cottage was perfectly located, being only a short drive from Donegal Airport (Carrickfinn).
For a family of five (two adults, three teens) the cottage is perfect and in fact has more than you need - a well fitted out kitchen, and comfortable lounge and dining area with a great view of the countryside. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, each with a very comfortable bed, and ensuite shower and toilet, downstairs there is a third double bedroom (also with ensuite), and the jewel in the crown: bath/shower/toilet and SAUNA !!!
Locationwise the cottage is perfect. Not only is it secluded and quiet but also Carrickfinn Island has a number of small sheltered beaches all of which are worth a visit. My family come from Gweedore which is one or two parishes away and so I have been coming to the area since as long as I can remember, and Carrickfinn is perfectly placed not only to explore the region - Glenveagh National Park (and Castle), Mount Errigal, the Poisoned Glen and the Bloody Foreland are all reachable.
There are no shops in the immediate area (which isnt necessarily a bad thing), but the village of Annagry is only a short drive away with a supermarket, several takeaways and a number of pubs and restaurants and caters for any immediate needs. Gweedore and Dungloe - with bigger supermakets (the latter has "The Cope", SuperValu, Lidl & Aldi) are both a short journey away and Gweedore also has the large beaches of Magheragallon and Magheraclogher. The biggest town in the area, Letterkenny, is about an hour away.
The caption translates as "A Hundred Thousand Welcomes" and that is what you receive from the owners - Cathal and Elma - our plans had to change at short notice and they were more than accommodating, even when we were several hours late in arriving due to traffic (in the end we had to drive from Dublin). No question was too small, and if I had forgotten something, either Cathal or Elma were there within minutes to help me.
In short, Donegal is one of the most scenic of Ireland's counties and the cottage at Carrickfinn is a perfect base from which to explore the region whilst Cathal and Elma are themselves a perfect advertisement for Irish Hospitality.
We will be back !!

Sehr schönes Cottage, sehr freundliche Vermieter
Alles sauber.
