Barnfield Cottage sleeps 5 with 3 bedrooms. This beautiful cottage, which has a 4* rating from Quality in Tourism, is located in the centre of the village of Hathersage a short walk to the cafes, pubs, restaurant and shops. There is ample parking for 3/4 cars. The cottage is extremely comfortable and well equipped with many original features. The cottage has a wood burning stove, two bathrooms (one en-suite) and a cloakroom. There is wifi at the property as well as a dishwasher, freezer and washerdryer. There is ample storage for bikes in the outdoor store. There are gardens to the front and rear where you can sit out and enjoy a barbecue or just relax on the patio enjoying the views after one of the many walks that can be enjoyed in the surrounding area.

Notes on accommodation: No smoking. Dogs are allowed by arrangement. Outside: There are gardens to the front and rear. There is an access road for the cottages that runs between the cottage and the front garden (parking is also in front of the garden). The rear garden is separated from the cottage by a narrow public footpath. The front garden has a summer house, patio with barbecue, table and chairs. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included.

great location

Great location, loved sitting out in the garden by the summer house. Lots of stairs to the bedrooms, but my in-laws who are 79 managed okay. Owners were very helpful and quick to respond to any e mails. It's a lovely house, would stay there again if in the area.

Lovely cottage in the centre of Hathersage

Small but spacious property, perfect location, space for bike storage. Inside clean, kitchen including all what you would expect. Nice clean bathrooms. Plenty of storage for clothes. The attic room perfect hideaway for our teenage daughter. The only slight issue for me was the double bed in the main bedroom which is on the small side and not all that comfortable when slept in by two people, but perhaps it is a personal preference.

Great location for walking, cycling and running.

Very clean and well equipped cottage. Can't fault it.

We will definitely be back for a 3rd visit at some point.

Spacious and well-equipped

Small on the outside, but surprisingly spacious on the inside - 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The kitchen has everything we needed, including a washing machine AND a dryer, although the house is so lovely and warm that we never needed to use it (even though it rained for our entire stay). The neighbors are friendly and kind, especially Suzanne who was always helpful and available. The location is great - just a walk to anything. There really are 2 beautiful gardens, as well as some wandering chickens and a stream. We recommend specifically: hiking Stanage Edge, seeing Haddon Hall, and dinner at the Scotman's Pack.

Perfect location!

We had the most amazing time. A group of mums having time away from the daily grind. Now we all want to come back separately with our respective families to share this beautiful setting with them.

Perfect get away!

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in Hathersage. The cottage is very homely, really well equipped and spacious. It is also very clean and well maintained. The location is very pretty and excellent.

We will definitely visit again and would recommend it to anyone (and we are fussy)!!!

Manchester Airport is approx 30 miles away. The village has a railway station with trains from Manchester and Sheffield. The cottage is walking distance (approx 10 mins) from the station. There is also a regular bus service from Sheffield (10 miles).


Castleton, famous for its Blue John stone and mines, is approx 5 miles by car or bus. Chatsworth House is 20 minutes drive away by car and Bakewell is approx 30 mins drive. Ladybower Reservour is approximately 3 miles.

Further Details:

There is an open air swimming pool (April-Oct). The village boasts a butchers, bakers, greengrocers and 2 convenience stores (open to 10.00 pm). There is also a fishmonger who visits every Tuesday morning. The village has four pubs all serving food, an Indian Restaurant, a deli and several cafes.

Changeover Day:
The preferred changeover day is Saturday but we can sometimes be flexible. We ask that guests do not arrive before 3.00 pm and leave at 10.00 am on their day of departure to allow for cleaning.

We request a 50% deposit within 7 days of the time of booking and full payment 8 weeks prior to the date of the commencement of the stay.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 7 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
