This cottage, voted No. 1 cool cottage of Hampshire by The Guardian is located in a breathtaking setting and surrounded by rolling countryside. The Stables offer a 5 star private and peaceful retreat on the most southerly point of West Meon. This elegantly refurbished cottage with (shared) pool has its own private access and garden. It is ideally suited for all kinds of activities because of its location. 20 Mins from coast, 20 mins to Winchester, 10 mins to nearest railway, Southampton airport 30 mins away. Country pursuits on the doorstep include fabulous walks, as we are in a National Park, fishing, riding, cycling and golfing, whilst National Trust Houses and historic towns, such as Winchester, are under 30 mins. There are number of good pubs in the area and many fine dining restaurants too. The pool is beautifully heated and has a Roman end with steps for lazy afternoons and reading. It is our intention to make this a really special visit.

About Vanessa Wills

I love living in Hampshire because of its peace and tranquility and have also enjoyed working in the city 12 years before starting a family. Now that the children are at university, I have set up a small business in property development and planning consultancy and enjoy designing buildings and their interiors. My husband and I have traveled a little and have stayed in some guests houses, some of which have been just fabulous. My aim is to create a special experience for my guests and offer a unique opportunity to enjoy our gorgeous countryside and stunning views in a luxurious style and comfort where they feel genuinely pampered.

Why Vanessa Wills chose East Hampshire

Having enjoyed London and all it offers, it seemed fitting to move to the country when we had small children. The house we chose is in a fine location, set up high on the hills where glorious views can be enjoyed. The Stables are part of our property and has its own private drive and access, private garden and terrace and is in more elevated position than the house which makes it such a perfect retreat. We invite our guest to make use of the pool which is only yards away and is a floral delight. Converting The Stables, at the end of 2012, has been a fabulous project and real chance to create something unique and cutting edge. Light and space were most important. Here, enjoy the peace and tranquillity with shops, post office, butcher and gastro pub just 5 mins walk away.

What makes this cottage unique

The location of this property together with its fresh design is undoubtedly something, we feel, is special. It has been designed to suit those in wheelchairs (with large doorways and wet rooms) and equally has the romantic feel to it too.

Horses are welcome for those wanting a riding holiday.

Whilst this cottage is nettled in an oasis of peace, there is a plethora a activities to do, just short distances away. Golf, fishing, riding, tennis, swimming, cycling are all here on the doorstep. There are number of National Trust houses within 30 mins. The historic town of Winchester with its shopping and fine dining is only 20 mins. Take a ferry to the Isle of Wight just 30 mins away. Beaches are 35 mins away and there are some gorgeous walks here all around this National Park. Notes on accommodation: The accommodation is all on one level so is suitable for wheelchairs. The property was completely rebuilt in Autumn 2012 and therefore benefits from fresh decoration, good insulation and brand new kitchen and bathroom. Outside: Private access and garden which includes two aspects. First is an acre garden facing south/east and the other is over far reaching views south/west. In the garden are table and chairs, hammock. The heated pool is shared with the owner. The parking, originally a stable yard, is spacious and makes for easy turning. There are several trees to find shade under. Utility Room: The utility is part of the kitchen please refer to kitchen. We also have a slow cooker and food processor. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Fresh white linen and fluffy towels, dressing gowns, pool towels and a cream tea are included. Friday is change over day, with arrivals invited for 3.00pm and departures requested for 10.00am. Evening meals can be arranged for late arrivals (no cost) Other: We have a characterful entrance hall with beautiful slate tiles.

Comfortable, quiet, relaxing

The Stables is a fantastic property with superb facilities, a lovely welcome pack and a warm greeting from Vanessa. The views are stunning and you feel totally relaxed and peaceful. Everything about the Stables is of the highest standard, from the extremely well equipped kitchen to the luxurious bathroom. We had the most wonderful week in September and have already booked to return next year.

Absolutely delighted with everything about it

The Stables at Black Hedges would have to be the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in (and we have stayed in a LOT) . Vanessa's attention to detail and the many lovely little thoughtful touches made this the most wonderful holiday experience.

The cottage is superb...beautifully equipped and decorated and the setting, surrounded by fields of sheep, is gorgeous.

We can't wait to return (from Australia) and will hope to book another two weeks.

A perfect holiday retreat

This is a perfect and beautifully presented holiday cottage.

It is in a great location for exploring the surrounding area, and for heading into London. We had a superb weeks holiday here and would certainly stay here again for future holidays.

Beautiful place

Very spacious and well decorated. A totally peaceful property, no road noise. We enjoyed waking up to beautiful views and watching the sheep in the field. A great pub with excellent food is just a 10 minute walk away in West Meon. We found the bed a little hard but other than that we just couldn't fault the place. We also appreciated the little touches such as cake fizz and flowers.

Perfect place to stay

We cannot thank Vanessa enough for providing such a perfect place to stay. On arrival we were greeted by Vanessa and shown around the property and how everything worked. Everything was spotlessly clean, the property is fitted out to a very high end spec with everything you could need. There was a home made cream tea on the table for us and fresh flowers. The lounge is well laid out with a chair and comfy sofa, there is also a good size television with blue ray player and Sky T.V. The kitchen has a table that will seat four and all the appliances you could possibly need with double doors opening onto the patio and garden. There is a further seating area in the garden with chairs and loungers covered by an oak pergola. The bedroom has an excellent super king bed with chairs and storage. The bathroom is truly excellent with two double wardrobes, a luxurious double ended bath, twin sinks and a walk in shower. All towels and bath robes were supplied as well as a good range of quality bath and shower products.

Then the views, that are absolutely stunning through the large bi-fold doors in the lounge.

To summarise, this is a must stay property in a fantastic, private location. Vanessa is on hand if you have any problems, not that you will!

We have stayed at many holiday lets and this is by far the best of all and we shall be returning in the future.
