About Elizabeth Tate

We moved here in June 2012 after running our own business in Northampton. We have loved this area so took the plunge and moved to start a new chapter in our lives.

Elizabeth Tate purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Elizabeth Tate chose Helston

We have holidayed here for 20+ years to to move here was a dream come true. This property became available and we saw the potential to be able to facilitate others to have wonderful holidays on The Lizard Peninsular. Cadgwith is such a pretty unspoilt village and to be able to pop down to this and all the other lovely coves whenever we like is wonderful. Our dogs certainly appreciate the walks.

Little Trethvas is off the beaten track but near to the road system on the Lizard to reach other places easily.

What makes this cottage unique

Little Trethvas is off the beaten track but near to the road system on the Lizard to reach other places easily. We have the Helford river with spectacular walks along hidden creeks or hire a boat for the day and sail up them. Every beach and cove is different with options to try something different.

The cottages have a real uniqueness about them and we will help in anyway we can for you to get the best out of your holiday as we live a few yards down the drive so you can knock on the door if you want information.

Pretty but not what we were expecting ...

  • 2 of 5

The accommodation is listed as a cottage but is actually a converted agricultural building with an asbestos roof. The property is on a camping/caravan site next to the toilet and shower facilities. This was not detailed on the listing. We were expecting a garden but really all it was was the grass between the door and the kerb. Not much good if you have a dog with you. A barbecue was listed but not provided. The building had been made into two 'cottages' with the windows on the outside covered with brambles. The bedrooms obviously back onto each other and we could hear the other guests coughing, snoring and talking during the night which was rather off putting.

Inside is very pretty with blue and white decor and was very clean with all the kitchen equipment you needed. Unfortunately the property is damp which has been acknowledged as you have to keep the de-humidifier on to try and keep the damp at bay. The bathroom is especially damp. We were expecting a log fire but it was an electric heater. It was unclear on the listing what facilities were available in the 'cottages' and we were sorely disappointed not to have a wood stove. On the listing it said that we would receive a warm welcome with a delicious cream tea awaiting us. There was nothing. Nothing at all. After a nine hour drive to get to the property we were disappointed. I had to email the owner twice on the day of arrival before I got an answer regarding arrival details.

Fortunately, the Lizard and surrounding coastal areas were fabulous and exciting to explore and it was very well situated for easy access to a variety of different places. We very much enjoyed exploring the cornish coast staying out as long as possible before having to return to the accommodation. Some may enjoy the 'quirkiness' of the 'cottage' but it was not for us for all of the above reasons

Cute cosy cottage oozing character with everything you need 5* Highly recommend

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time in the Wellspring Cottage. Liz has it down to a T, so friendly & helpful and full of knowledge on the local spots. The cottage is SO WELL kitted out, clean & cosy. Dogs extremely welcome, and with the wooden flooring it's easy to keep clean during the stay if you have dogs, I always worry about carpet etc. Considering it is on a campsite, its also quite private. Shower was amazing.

Location is just superb, Lizard a 2 minute drive, Cadgwith and the gorgeous Cagwith Cove inn 5 min drive, Kynance 2 mins. Just simply so much to see and do. Walking was the best in I've done. Absolutely Loved my stay here.

The cottage is very cute, beautifully decorated, I will add basic, but including all your necessities, however I believe if you are here on the Lizard with your pets, you are not here for a fancy stay, you are here for good times and breathtaking views. I will recommend and definitely will be back. Thank you so much Liz x

Lovely, relaxed stay in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is beautifully decorated, and very comfortable for the two of us. We were made to feel very welcome by Liz when we arrived and felt very comfortable at all times on site.

The location is fab and feels nice and remote and we were were able to walk to local villages such as Lizard and Cadgwith, as well as local sites like Kynance Cove and Lizard Point.

Fresh eggs are literally across the road at the farm opposite, £1.20 for half a dozen.

Best of luck to Liz and her husband in their adventure, the set up you have here is excellent and it's almost a certainty we'll be back!

Warm Winter Welcome.

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic time to visit Cornwall, made even more special by the lovely accomodation and welcome provided by Liz & Mike. We were greeted with twinkling Christmas lights, inside & out. A warm cosy cottage, fresh flowers & a lovely cream tea, which was a real treat. Wellspring was everything as promised.

It was an ideal base to explore the Lizard Peninsula and beyond. The weather provided wonderfully rough seas and crisp winter sunshine.

Fishing villages had joined in with the Christmas spirit and had adorned their streets and harbours with magical displays of Christmas lights. Mousehole was celebrating the 50th Anniversary of theirs! Fantastic restaurant there too called 2 Fore St.

We visited the usual haunts, like Padstow and St Ives, but without the usual struggle of fighting against the crowds and for a parking space.

Shear Bliss!

Accueil splendide et tranquillité totale

  • 5 of 5

Special interest holidays:

The Lizard peninsular is a unique part of Cornwall. On one side is the rugged coastline will walks along dramatic cliffs and onto beautiful beaches such as Kynance, Poldhu and Gunwallowe. Amazing surfing, bodyboarding can be enjoyed on these beaches. Kayaking is available from Mullion Cove as is Coasteering.

Amazing sunsets looking down over mounts bay.

On the other of the peninsular side are little sheltered fishing villages such as Cadgwith and Coverack.

Gentler surf for families with small children is found here.

The roads are mostly level so road biking can be taken at a leisurely pace or off road biking across the Lizard and Goonhilly downs.

Horseriding is available 3 miles away with hacks down to the beach for a canter in the sea or a hack across the downs.

The scenery is to die for so photographers and artists will enjoy the Lizard.

You can walk to Kynance cove and Cadgwith and coast path from your front door and it will take 30-40 minutes. Both have a car park if you prefer to drive and takes 5 mins to reach.

The nearest airport is Newquay. 1 1/2 hours away by car. The nearest port is Falmouth, 40 minutes by car or Plymouth,2 1/2 hours by car.

A car is not essential but would recommend to enjoy all The Lizard Peninsular has to offer.

Local buses stop at the end of the lane and take you to Helston where you can get buses to Truro, Penzance, Falmouth, Newquay, St Ives to name a few

Cadgwith 2 miles, The Lizard 2 miles, Mullion 4 miles, Helston 8 miles, Helford river 6 miles, Falmouth 15 miles.

Further Details:

Cadgwith has a lovely pub where fishermen drink and local musicians play on a Tues evening, The Lizard has a great pub, cafes and restaurants. Mullion also has 2 pubs, a fish and chip cafe. Ruan minor has our nearest shop but Mullion has a small supermarket. Helston has 2 large supermarkets, banks and small speciality shops.
