Overview

About the property

Cottage in Boscastle, Cornwall, England - Tranquil And Unique Location Next To A Bubbling Trout Stream And Bluebell Wood. Near To Beaches

Anderton Mill is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Sleeping four in two bedrooms, it provides superb family accommodation, but is also ideal for couples wishing to get away from it all. Renovated by the owners over a period of twenty years, it is very much a home, rather than simply a holiday cottage. This ancient watermill has been converted with flair and finesse and includes slate floors, a log burner, deep oak window seats and contemporary furnishings. The three patios are real sun traps; 'the riverside terrace', is complete with sun loungers, whilst the upper patio has a built-in barbecue and teak furniture. There is plenty to do within the 7 acre grounds, including trout fishing, pond dipping and scaling the tree house, as well as excellent local walks in the valley. The house is only a short drive (or indeed a walk for the fit!) to the North Cornish coast and its varied beaches. Space, peace and tranquillity are the hallmarks of this unique rural retreat.

About Mr Peter Forse

We are married with 2 grown up children and are both teachers. Although we love travelling, Cornwall always draws us back!

Mr Peter Forse purchased this cottage in 1970

Why Mr Peter Forse chose North Cornwall

We stumbled across Anderton Mill by chance when walking in the area. At the time it was a complete ruin but we fell in love with its stunning position in the Valency Valley. We spent the next 15 years lovingly restoring it, as time and money allowed. It is now a very special home. We were delighted to receive Rural Property of the Year Award for 2011. Although we visit often, we have been letting Anderton Mill for almost 20 years, with many of our guests returning year after year - the record being 16 years in succession!

North Cornwall remains one of the least spoilt areas of Great Britain and the Vallency Valley is a very special place. We have spent many happy times here with our family and friends.

What makes this cottage unique

We always enjoy the peace and tranquility of the cottage; the abundance of wildlife and the variety offered by the seasons. Sitting outside on a warm evening is a real joy, listening to the river and gazing at stars we don't see in the city.

This place is unique - something that our guests often comment on.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Melanie and her family were ideal guests. They treated our cottage and its grounds with utmost respect, were very enthusiastic, and answered all our correspondence promptly. We would love them to return.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: This is a wonderful place for both families and couples. Children will love exploring the grounds, especially the tree house, river and ponds. Due to the proximity of water, young children will need to be supervised. Several of our guests have 'roughed it' in the tree house - it contains a small bed - mattress kept in the house. The 3 patios take advantage of the movement of the sun throughout the day and there is outside lighting on the riverside patio for warm evenings. We have a very secluded afternoon/evening patio with built in BBQ and teak furniture, which catches the last of the day's sun. Outside: 3 patios, BBQ area, outdoor furniture, beautiful gardens, ponds, river, small field and plenty of parking. Utility Room: Utility room comprising washing machine, tumble drier and worktop with cupboards. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property is cleaned before your arrival and tea towels are provided. Optional clean midway on a 2 week letting. Currently we ask guests to provide their own bed linen and towels. Duvets are provided.

Unique location, lovely cottage

  • 4 of 5

This was our second visit to Anderton Mill. It really does have a unique location, nestled into the valley and directly overlooking the Valency stream. We have young boys (6 and 9) who loved pond dipping in the freshwater pond, hunting trout in the stream and taking snacks up to the treehouse. There is loads to do in the nearby area, including superb safe surfing, rock pooling, sand castles and a great cafe at Crackington Haven. The cottage is equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We didn't mind the lack of wifi for a week! The bedrooms are fresh, clean and cosy. The kitchen is well equipped and has all the basics included, which saves on having to buy lots of stuff you only need in small quantities; just replace what you use up. If you like to get away from it all, if you love cosy cottages and if want to try somewhere a bit different, Anderton Mill is for you!

A hidden gem!

  • 5 of 5

My family have been coming to this cottage every year since discovering it in 2005. The location is idyllic, being set well back from an already quiet road, it provides a very restful and peaceful environment. The gardens are delightful and they offer a range of opportunities for all age groups and the children love exploring them. Visiting the tree house is an adventure in itself! There is always an abundance of wildlife. This year we saw deer and lizards.

Inside, the cottage is very spacious and well equipped. It has all the modern conveniences to ensure a comfortable stay, whatever the weather. The wood burning stove is a a welcome feature if the nights are cool. The owners, Pete and Kay, could not be more helpful. They have continued to make improvements to the cottage, but they have made sure that its wonderful character has been maintained. We have already booked for 2018 and can't wait to return!

Simply the best!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 5th year holidaying at Anderton Mill and we had another fantastic week. The location, cottage and its surroundings are just perfect for us. The Cornish weather was also perfect the week we stayed : )

Plenty of walks in the area and Boscastle at sunset is always a treat.

Our trip down next year is already booked!

Thank you Pete and Kay for providing the ideal escape from our busy lives!

A week in a Cornish paradise

  • 5 of 5

Anderton Mill is, as it is described, an idyllic hideaway, set in the very secluded and verdant Valency valley. The beautiful cottage, and lovely grounds, reflect the loving care of the owners, who have created this wonderful rural retreat. It's a privilege to be able to share this hidden gem and we have already booked a further holiday there next year.

"A Hidden Gem"

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Anderton Mill. It is such a pretty cottage in an idyllic setting, providing high quality accomodation and only 3 miles from Boscastle. We had another amazing time here. It is clean, well maintained and Kay and Pete provide excellent customer service if any problems do occur. Sitting outside on the riverside terrace sipping a glass of wine is so relaxing, then cooking a BBQ in the sunshine in the BBQ area. It is hard to drag yourself away from this lovely cottage to go and visit the many fantastic tourist spots nearby. Friends came to visit us one evening and were so smitten with the cottage they decided to book it for themselves. We will now be fighting over school holidays! Thank you Kay and Pete for renting your beautiful holiday cottage to us once again. We will definitely be back and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting North Cornwall.

Anderson Mill revisited

  • 5 of 5

This property is both charming & unique, the location on first sight will take your breathe away, the only sounds you will hear are the birds and the river Valency tumbling over stones down to Boscastle. Once visited you will want to return again & again.
