About Lindsay Rogers

We loved holidaying in the Lake District but never found a self-catering cottage that was suitable as one of our children uses a wheelchair. We bought Rothay Lodge & Apartment in 2003 and made both properties wheelchair accessible and provided everything that we would want from a holiday home.

Lindsay Rogers purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Lindsay Rogers chose Grasmere

Grasmere is not only a lovely village and good base for fell walking but there are some lovely low level walks which are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs

Guestbook comments from the owner

A Visitor book contains many kind comments about how lovely and warm the property is and what a great holiday was had. Also, when returning the key in the stamped envelope provided, guests have often included a note thanking me, saying it was like a home from home and often re-booking for the following year.

Absolutely the best!

  • 5 of 5

The house was very comfortable, had everything we needed and was in a fabulous location. We were a group of ten and the house never felt crowded. Wonderful hiking in the area. Lindsay was a great host.

Excellent week in the lakes

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here in November for my birthday with 9 of my best friends. We had a great week exploring the local towns, villages and pubs. We embraced the beautiful scenery and hiked up the hills and strolled along the reservoirs, often popping in to a cafe for a refuel on cake and tea!

The house was beautiful and a perfect location for a big group get together. The bedrooms were large with beautiful views. The kitchen was large and had a wonderful big table where we are many home made meals. The living spaces were cosy and we felt like we were at home, not a guest house.

All in all we had a fabulous weekend and would definitely like to come back for another stays I would recommend this property to anyone with families or big groups looking for a relaxing outdoors holiday in a beautiful tranquil village.

Luxury in Grasmere

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful large comfortable house. Everything was provided and we could not have wished for anything more. Loved our stay even though the weather was typical wet lakes. We will return.

Glorious Grasmere house

  • 5 of 5

Have stayed in Lindsay's other property before but this was the first time staying at the main Rothay Lodge as we needed the extra space as some of the family were staying with us on this visit.

A beautiful 19th century Lodge set in a wonderful location, within a large garden, right next to the River Rothay. The property boasts 5 en suite bedrooms all of which are more than adequately furnished and appointed to ensure a comfortable stay. Downstairs there is the addition of a level access wet room which, together with a stairlift, will ensure that any less mobile members of your party would be able to enjoy the surroundings too.

There is a large lounge area, and a reception room at the bottom of the stairs each with the addition of its own wood burner ensuring that chilly evenings are kept at bay. A massive dining area with underfloor heating and a large dining table ensures that mealtimes can be enjoyed by everyone in the party in comfort and this area leads straight into a well appointed kitchen having the benefits of a double oven, American style fridge freezer with a cool water dispenser, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.

A gas hob and large amounts of cupboard storage completes the spec of this ideal property which was refurbished after the December storms of 2016. I know; I was due to be staying there then too!! It goes without saying that there is a more than adequate supply of 'accessories' and what may be deemed by some to be essentials (bedding and towels, cutlery, glassware and crockery, widescreen satellite tv with DVD, coffee machine etc.) but, my advice would be to rent this glorious property and use it as a base to explore this wonderful area of the country. We do; and we have again but have booked the smaller apartment, as there are just the two of us next time, for both April and December 2017.

Have a look at the website and, if you fancy a relaxing break in glorious Grasmere, you won't do better.

A most memorable week

  • 5 of 5

We booked Rothay Lodge for our small wedding party and had a truly wonderful week which hold very special memories for us. The lodge was everything we expected and more. A home from home with the added bonus of the stunning views and beautiful gardens. We were lucky enough to meet the owners who were staying in the apartment next door and were very helpful and accommodating. We hired a local chef called Nick Foster for the wedding meal which I can highly recommend. The food and the waitress service were exceptional and very reasonably priced. We were blessed with good weather which enabled us to go on several walks and admire the breath taking views of this wonderful part of the Lake District. There are several good walks from Grasmere. No need to take the car!

We called into Tweedies Bar for the local beer festival and had a great evening. I would highly recommend Rothay Lodge as the perfect house for your stay in Grasmere. You will not be disappointed.

Car: not necessary

There is a beach area at the South end of Grasmere lake which is on a popular walk around the lake which takes about an hour.

The nearest airport is Manchester, about a 2 hour drive away. The nearest train station is at Windermere, a few miles away and with a good bus service to Grasmere.

5 minutes to walk to the centre of Grasmere village

Further Details:

The main attraction of Grasmere is its position in the centre of the Lake District National Park with many walks starting there. The picturesque village itself has plenty of restaurants and pubs for eating.
