Two secluded, detached and characterful 2 bedroom non-smoking cottages, one in its own grounds and one with walled garden in the quiet of Cartmel valley, perfect for those who want a relaxing holiday in calm surroundings. Thoughtfully furnished and sustainably managed, attracting consistently positive feedback. One is a farmworker’s cottage refurbished to a high standard, alone in farmland, with large walled garden and panoramic views to the south of Cartmel valley and Hampsfell to the east. The other is a Lakeland slate cottage completely renovated, hidden in a private wooded garden above a tranquil pond. This one’s heating comes from ‘green’ ground source and wood burner. Each has a double and a twin bedroom with restful and unpeopled views, great kitchens, full central heating and hot water and a super full mains pressure shower and bath. Linen and towels all included. Lettings from Friday, Monday or Tuesday, 3 nights minimum. Owners can receive deliveries e.g. food, by arrangement

We stayed for 3 nights at Woodland Cottage. This property, unlike most of the holiday lets we've stayed at over the years, actually exceeded our expectations. It was very quiet, clean, well-equipped and comfortable, yet within easy walking distance of Cartmel, which is a lovely village with shops and pubs. We brought our dog and so the enclosed, surprisingly large, garden was perfect. The walks from the cottage were varied and interesting, being enhanced by the wonderful local scenery, with hills, streams, rocky outcrops and an assortment of wildlife.
The only, very slight, negative for us (and this is down to personal preference of course) was the feather bedding, so bring your own pillows if you too are not a fan!
All my questions before and during booking were answered swiftly and fully by the owner, who popped in to check that everything was alright for us during our stay.
We would thoroughly recommend this cottage and intend to return in the near future, possibly encouraging some friends of ours to let the other cottage at the same time which is just up the road.
Thanks so much for these kind remarks, Sophia. Our guiding principle is to provide the kind of standard we would like to experience ourselves.
As for the feather bedding, we have only recently made the transformation from synthetic filling for duvets and pillows, because of our personal preference as well as (hopefully) sustainability. Knowing people can have other preferences or indeed allergies, we provide one feather and one synthetic filled pillow for each occupant; on request we are ready to provide synthetic filled duvets and further synthetic pillows for any booking.
Beautiful idyllic location, peace and quiet.
Stayed here 5days, early October, beautiful, peaceful, comfortable and very cosy.
Hope to go back soon.
Perfectly charming and exceeding expectation
Loved the cottage, it was so quaint and the photos online didn't do it as much justice as in reality.
The garden and setting was idyllic. Cottage was furnished in rustic style in keeping. Very clean and tidy
